PackerChatters Mock Draft

By Brian Clark - PackerChatters.com Staff

Updated 4-21-2008

***This Mock Draft does not take into consideration the trade of Jared Allen from the Chiefs to the Vikings on 4-22-2008.

Round One

1.  Jake Long OT Michigan

Jake is the type of OL that Parcell's likes as he's been compared to Jumbo Elliott a former OT for Bill. Should take over LT right away allowing Carey to move to RT.

2.  Rams - Vernon Gholston DE Ohio State

After drafting Carriker last year and moving him from DE to DT they now need to find a DE to help put pressure on the QB and Gholston is the type of player who will do that.

3. Falcons- Glenn Dorsey DT LSU

With a weak DL Dorsey is looked at as a stud.

4.  Raiders- Chris Long DE Virginia

Raiders take the whole time to debate this as McFadden is hard to pass up but the DL is in need of some serious help and Long can be that type as he can play the run and pass rush.

5.  Chiefs - Branden Albert OL Virginia

Fast riser who teams think can play LT at the next level and goes to a team that has been known for a long time for quality OL.

6.  Jets - Darren McFadden RB Arkansas

McFadden is the BPA on the board and fills a need. Would of settled for one of the OLB/DEs Long or Gholston but both are gone.

7.  Patriots (via 49ers) - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennesse St

Having no real holes on the roster but in search of some depth at CB, LB and OG and BPA right now for those positions is Cromartie.

8.  Ravens- Matt Ryan QB Boston College

Baltimore has had a huge need for a QB for a few years now. With McNair retiring and Boller nothing more then a backup Ryan will be given the job from day one.

9.  Bengals-Sedrick Ellis DT USC

Huge need at DT and Ellis fills that need as some teams have him rated higher then Dorsey. Should battle Peko and Thorton for playing time.

10. Saints- Mike Jenkins CB South Florida

With McKenzie coming back from an ACL injury and being the only real CB on the roster Saints finally grabs one. Instant starter if he does not hold out.

11. Bills- Derrick Harvey DE Florida

Can never have enough pass rushers and it showed last year when Denney went down early on which left the DE position very thin and weak till week 9.

12.  Broncos- Ryan Clady OT Boise State

After Lepsis retired on them Denver had no LT in place to take over. Clady is one of the best LT's in the draft and comes from a ZB scheme already .

13. Panthers- Chris Williams OT Vanderbilt

After cutting ties with Wahle it created a huge hole along the OL but with Wharton moving to LG this allows Williams to earn the LT job if he gets to camp on time. This selection moves Gross back to RT.

14.  Bears- Jeff Otah OT Pittsburgh

Very raw prospect who only started playing football in his senior year of high school. Only 2 years of Div 1. Has the tools to be a LT but needs a lot of coaching.

15.  Lions- Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois

Detroit has a huge need for a RB after releasing Jones who is still on the market. Mendenhall should beat out Calhoun for the starting job early on.

16.  Cardinals- Leodis McKelvin CB Troy

After selecting Rolle and moving him to S they still had a huge hole at CB. McKelvin is one of the top rated CB in this draft as he has speed to burn.

17.  Vikings - Brian Brohm QB Louisville

Jackson is not the answer and anyone that knows anything about football sees it. Brohm has all the tools to lead that talented offense to the playoffs.

18.  Texans- Kenny Phillips S Miami

Would of gone RB here if Stewart was healthy but he's not so Houston reaches for the top safety in the draft in hopes he can be what other Miami safeties have become in the NFL...studs.

19. Eagles - Devin Thomas WR Michigan St

Still looking for quality WR's for McNabb to throw to and Philly now has found one n Thomas who has very good size and speed.

20.  Buccaneers- DeSean Jackson WR California

With Galloway turning 37 it's only a matter of time before he retires and Jackson is a younger version of him.

21.  Redskins- Phillip Merling DE Clemson

Should be an understudy of Daniels(35) for a year or two before he takes over for good.

22.  Dallas (Via Cle) - Aqib Talib CB Kansas

Newman has been the only real CB on the roster for years and now they reach out to help him. Talib will play behind Henry until he proves he's ready to start.

23.  Steelers- Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon

BPA is to hard to pass on a big bruising back like Stewart who has very good speed and loves to pound the ball.

24.  Titans- Gosder Cherilus OT Boston College

Power tackle who will step in and battle for the starting right tackle spot immediately with the likes of David Stewart and Mike Otto.

25.  Seahawks - Dustin Keller TE Purdue

Mike Holmgren needs a pass catching TE who is going move the chains and Keller comes from a pass happy program that showed off his talents. Does not have the build of a TE but he will create matchup problems for teams.

26.  Jaguars - Keith Rivers LB USC

With the head coach a former LB himself he will not pass on a top 15 prospect at this point. Rivers will be groomed as a SLB.

27.  Chargers - Felix Jones RB Arkansas

With the loss of Turner to Atlanta the Chargers know it needs to find a back up who can spell LT some and Jones is a perfect fit. Would be like he was still at Arkansas sharing carries with McFadden.

28.  Cowboys - Limas Sweed WR Texas

Can't pass up on a local prospect who helps fill a need. Sweed will develope to take over TO's spot within 2 years.

29.  49ers (via Indy) - James Hardy WR Indiana

WR core was so bad that they reached out for veteran wr's in Bruce and Bryant but still are in need of young wr's who can catch the ball and move the chains.

30.  Packers - Antoine Cason CB Arizona

With Harris and Woodson over 30 and no real depth behind them Cason becomes more of a need then BPA.

31.  New England - Forfeited pick .

31.  Giants - Dan Conner LB Penn State

Has taken a few years to build up a decent linebacking core but Connor is way to good to pass up here as the LB core has always been hit hard with injuries.
