Has anyone ever considered the possibility that with the cap increasing the last several years by a huge margin that one of our own might want to bust his contract this year? If so which player do you think is most likely to do it and why?

I'm thinking no, unless they really want out of Green Bay. Otherwise their best bet would be to let it be known behind the scenes that they think they deserve a raise and then go to work. At least that seems to be what has worked.

As far as who might want out, I can't really think of anyone.

I won't speculate on this.

All the talk we heard all year long was how outstanding the team chemistry was.

Given what we know, I doubt there is anyone who would want to upset that chemistry by pulling that type of stunt.

dont know. But you can bet that both Greg Jennings and Ryan Grant will want a raise if they play as well as they did this past season again.

My feeling is Grant and Bigby (since they are ERFA's) will get new contracts before the season starts, and Jennings will get his before the season is over (as long as he is producing well).

Don't forget, Walker wanted his contract reworked after his breakout season and we all said that he had to show up , big time, more than one season before getting his payday.

Almost everybody want to be paid more - especially players who are outperforming their contracts.

It is not in wanting to be paid more, it is in the way players go about it.

But even than fan reaction is unpredictable.

Hell, Corey Williams was a professional as is possible, outperforming his contract but never saying anything other than loving his team and wanting to win.

He leaves after not getting a fair offer during the season and then getting tagged and says that he appreciate coming to a team that values and loves him and he suddenly is pond scum.

Fans are a fickle lot.

Let's trust Ted to do his job and not create problems that do not currently exist. wink.gif

Corey Williams in January:

QUOTE
I love being here in Green Bay,” Williams said. “I love all my teammates. The atmosphere, just being here, there's nothing like it. The only thing I can say about that is I just want to be treated fair. If that means where I would have to take a little (pay)cut or whatever, like I said, I just want to be treated fair.”

“I've had a great ride here. If it comes to an end, one thing I can say when I leave here is that I had a great time. I felt like I was loved here, they cared about us, and hopefully wherever else I end up at, I hope I have the same feeling about them that I had about here in Green Bay."

Corey Williams a few days ago:

QUOTE
"I wanted out of Green Bay and I’m glad Cleveland called me," Williams said, with his new coach, Romeo Crennel, flanking him. "I feel like I am wanted here. It feels like home to me and I’ve only been here one day. I already feel like I got the love that I have been looking for. I’m happy and excited about it."

FANS are fickle?!? Players are as fickle as they come. Come on now Bruce...

The important thing with the Packers is that the standard has been set by other vets - Harris, Driver, even Tausch to a degree. If you want more money the team will take care of you, just don't go shooting your mouth off about it in public. Williams wanted more, kept his mouth shut and he got it - so what's his problem?

We know Grant has already asked for a raise and as long as he stays cool about it and focuses on playing, he'll get it, likely before the season is over. Same thing for Bigby and Jennings - Bigby may get loose lips because he can be a bit of a space cadet, but Jennings is ice cold. If he has another 5-6 TDs by mid-season, that raise is right around the corner.

I guess it's just in the way they handle it.

I was just thinking that Ryan Grant is due a huge contract, if you look at the deal Michael Turner just signed, Grant will get more... WOW!

Jennings I'm not as high on but he still could command a big number by mid season. I've seen a number of key drops by the guy, in addition he's yet to play a full 16 game season.

If both really do well, their contracts could eat the majority of our cap room this year, this leaves very little left to sign a G or 2nd RB or anybody for that matter.

If the contracts are designed correctly, it would be possible to pay Jennings and Grant well and still have an abundance of cap space remaining.

Fair is a tough one for me to understand. From what I understand there was some talk during the season. TT 's idea of fair was contracts in line of both Pickett's and Jenkin's. I also think that would have been fair. Williams wanted more , I dont blame him.

TT tagged him to protect the Packers and give Williams a fair contract for a year. This bought the Packers time to either extend him or trade him to a team that would pay him more.

I still do not see at least myself as fickel on this subject. I like Williams a lot as a Packer. I however think he took a few shots at the Packers in his PC. In my opinion unwarranted and immature. If he thinks the Packers did not treat him fair then he has sour grapes.

Yes they are and it just chaps my butt that we can always hear of the players that outperform their contracts and complain about not getting the love. Howver the equally amount of players that underperform their contracts never seem to have a problem with love.

Yeah, true you can always manipulate the numbers, at this point I just wonder what is out there that will actually improve our team that we can pick up now?

Also, SD had 40 million in cap room and yet they lost Turner, looks like a lot of other teams are staying away from the big contracts and not just GB.

but they didnt need Turner anymore. They have Tomlinson and Sproles played pretty good last season. This is also a deep class for drafting a RB. Paying that much for your back-up RB isnt a great idea.

Fair is a tough one for me to understand.

It is not fair and neither is the NFL, it is a multi-billion dollar business that is built upon profit, not fairness. My point was never (poor Corey Williams), rather simply trying to present his perspective.

TT tagged him to protect the Packers and give Williams a fair contract for a year. This bought the Packers time to either extend him or trade him to a team that would pay him more.

And it was a VERY good move by Ted given the circumstances. I am not being critical of Thompson, he made a good move to get real value for Williams.

I still do not see at least myself as fickel on this subject. I like Williams a lot as a Packer. I however think he took a few shots at the Packers in his PC. In my opinion unwarranted and immature. If he thinks the Packers did not treat him fair then he has sour grapes.

I still have not seen a single shot where he criticized the city, the team, any coach, any player or even Ted Thompson. He said he was glad to be out of Green Bay and in Cleveland where he was valued and loved.

If that chaps your butt, your butt chaps awfully easy, perhaps you should consult a dermatologist wink.gif

You write: If he thinks the Packers did not treat him fair then he has sour grapes. Help me understand, when did we become the thought and feelings police? If I understand correctly, you are entitled to your thoughts and feelings about Corey Williams despite not being personally affected in any way, but Corey is not entitled to his thoughts and feelings, despite the facts that he was greatly affected and no longer had any connection, responsibility or obligation to the team?

Go figure. huh.gif

In my opinion, I can understand both Thompson and Williams reactions and responses. I respect both their decisions. I can also easily say about Williams: "Thank you for your high effort on the field and in practice and your good team attitude while representing the Green Bay Packers. Good luck in all future endeavors, unless of course they are against the Green Bay Packers (or I have money on the other team wink.gif )...

Bruce you can help me answer that question you are offering a feeling on how you think Williams thinks.

Excuse me if this is posted elsewhere; but the Pack are already talking to jenning's agent to lock him up long to a new contract.....

I believe Jennings has earned an extension and should be awarded for his efforts over more than one season-soon! That said, Grant (in my opinion) is not yet there, but by mid-season if he continues to show he isn’t a one year wounder, than if I were TT, I consider doing same for Grant., .
