Take a few minutes and download "Packer Transplants (episode 23)" on iTunes.

In it they rip Packer Chatters and Packer Therapy, some of it is funny and some of it is partly true, but it may not sit well with a few people around here.

Their show has excellent production values--it seems they have access to equipment we will probably never have. The hosts are pleasing to listen to and seem to have a nice rapport. They have a good point about the length of our show--I agree it is often too long. But as Blaise Pascal once noted when writing to a friend "I am sorry for the length of my letter, but I had not the time to write a short one". Such is the case with Dave and me.

In addition, the guys who do Transplants apparently have been able to gain approval to air clips of the Packers Radio Network broadcast; that adds a nice dimension to their podcast. However, we are not positioned to negotiate the permissions necessary to air that material. And even if we did gain the OK of the team and/or the league, we don't have the technology that would allow us to weave that into our program.

I note that they don't understand the Packers Therapy name, which is surprising because it doesn't seem to make any less sense that Packer Transplants. But their confusion does give them something to chide us about, perhaps because they see themselves in competition with us, and that's a fundamental difference with us.

We don't view ourselves in comparison with them or to be in some sort of competition, probably because I am not sure what we would be competing over. We are paid the same for our podcast regardless of the number of people who download it: $0. So we are not competing over listeners or subscriber dollars or anything else that might have meaning. We are not a business, so it is not like we are fighting with them for marketshare so we can stay afloat. Both of Dave and I have day jobs, so Packers Therapy is a lark for us--a way to do something with our passion for the team--not a source of income for us. So if PackerChatters.com dropped us tomorrow and replaced us with Transplants or something else, we would shrug and move on.

One thing you will not hear on Packers Therapy is us ripping their podcast. I knew it was out there, but until today I hadn't listened, mainly because over the three years that we have been doing our podcast lots of other programs have come and gone. Besides, I really am not interested in other podcasts because the one I co-host keeps me busy enough. And, if truth be told, I would rather talk about the Packers instead of rip other podcasts.

In any case, they are doing their own thing in their own way, and we were doing the same with our show. They offer something different, a style and sound that no doubt appeals to many; we have a different approach that appeals to others. I imagine that some serious fans might download and enjoy both shows--they are free, after all. So I won't feel the need to offer some off-hand snarky comments about Transplants when we record the next show. After all, some people who listen to us probably like their show, so I wouldn't want to insult those listeners.

Finally, our show has been around for three seasons now--84 episodes as of this writing. Theirs has been around for just one season--23 episodes. Perhaps the Packers Therapy name would make more sense to them if they were doing their show during a 4-12 season...?

I'm a devoted listener to the Packer Therapy podcast. I, like the Transplants, live in New York, and look forward to listening to the show on the subway ride to work. I have listened to Packers Therapy almost since the onset. I've heard every Transplant podcast and have seen a few others come and go in the past three years. I agree with Chris' position that this is not a competition. It would fine with me if there were a couple more out there. Then I'd have one for every day of the week.

I'm sure that both sets of hosts work very hard and take great pride in their shows. Each has acceptable production values. The clips used in the Transplant podcast don't add a whole lot to my listening experience because by the time the podcast is posted, I've already heard the press conferences on Packers.com. The same goes for shows that read the news. Like most devout fans, I do the spin around the web first thing in the office each morning.

I am grateful for everyone who has produced what amounts to a weekly radio show, without the commercials. I look forward to hearing more podcasts during the offseason.

You, my friend, are Hard Core! Here's hoping other podcasts pop up to keep you (and all of those who have been asking for a second podcast each week) sated.

chris and dave,
i just heard the "packer transplants" podcast today and was pretty shocked that they slammed your podcast. first of all, i don't think their production values are any better than yours. secondly, i have never thought that your shows are too long. i also download the "packershow" podcasts and their podcasts are usually 1 1/2 hours long at the very least (their podcasts are very good too). i think the hosts on packer transplants are really annoying in that they think they are funny and they constantly talk over each other. i actually think your shows are the right length and actually could be a bit longer. both of you have alot of very intelligent points and are genuinely very entertaining to listen to while being informative at the same time. to me, you have the best packers podcasts on the internet and i really look foward to hearing your show every week. it really is like having 2 old friends over each week to talk about the greatest nfl team of all time. have a great offseason and GO PACK!!!!!!

Thanks, Jack. I know I speak for Dave when I tell you how much we appreciate your good words.

Hey Chris, I agree with the above posters. I was a bit shocked when they took some shots at you guys. I have only recently started listening to Packer podcasts and I found yours is the best and the most detailed. I like the length of the podcast, especially the last one. I think everyone needed to vent a bit on that one. I look forward to your season wrap-up podcast.

it's 2 guys that live in upper manhattan and have a short packers podcast each week. you can find it on itunes. their show doesn't compare to packers therapy or packershow (which are the 2 most informative packers podcasts on the net). of course, this is just my opinion- you should find out for yourself.

Packer Transplants is okay, not much depth but fun to listen to.

I enjoy the Packers Therapy podcast much more, keep up the good work guys!

Yes "Packershow" podcast is also worth a listen.

I think you guys have to worry about them about as much as Cadillac has to worry about Suzuki. They just simply aren't in your league.

You guys are thoughtful and have some class, nothing I would accuse those guys of.

Your music is way better as well.

Keep up the good work, and thank you for your efforts.

I like both podcasts, personally. I like Packers Therapy because it gives me a more Wisconsin based flavor. I tend to read the more national media reports on the Pack, although I do check in on the blogs often, so as a New Yorker, I like the local flavor of Packers Therapy.

Packers Transplants appeals to me because they are more common sensical than your average sports commentator. They have a very pragmatic approach to analysis. And I don't think they were "bashing" Packers Therapy as much as they were teasing.

Podcasts are seriously a god send on the subway. When I was younger and lived on Staten Island, I used to always listen to talk radio in the car. Now that I've moved out of that borough and commute via the subway, I obviously can't get the AM stations underground. So podcasts are very much welcomed. I subscribe to so many podcasts. I don't always get to listen to them all, but I do get to a lot on my commute.
