hey guys,
thanks for getting this episode up so quickly. we all needed this. i'm actually in the middle of the podcast and chris brought up my point about bad play calling. i just wanted to say that i love mccarthy but i just think he made a lot of bad coaching decisions during the game just like he did during the first part of the dallas game. he is a far better coach than sherman and, to me, he should've been coach of the year. he just had a bad game like the rest of the team.

p.s. i was including sanders too when i made that comment on the bad play calling.

Great podcast once again guys. Just discovered you during the playoffs. Finally got a chance to listen to the post playoff podcast. I had some thoughts on some of the points you brought up, but I forgot them since I was on the subway while listening.

Anyway, if I recall I'll post them, but if I don't, thanks for doing a great job and making my commute a little shorter.

BTW, the loss to the Broncos in the Super Bowl caused me weeks of anguish. Definitely one of the worst losses any of my sports teams ever had me endured.

OK, I'm only 19 minutes into this podcast but I want to say, "You guys are right on the money!" The Packers came into this game scared of the Giants aggressive defense, and instead of sticking to what they do best (short passes, RAC, mixed with runs) they went back to Favre bombing it down the field. They didn't come into the game as the favorite with a "here's how we do it - try to stop us" attitude like we've seen in other games. They completely changed their game plan and fell on their face just like they did in Dallas. The sad thing is, with a 3-step drop and quick release by Favre, I didn't see the Giants defense being able to stop us.

It feels good to hear someone with the same perspective. There is not much sympathy here in Michigan! Back to the podcast...

I am only into the first minutes of the podcast, but I was glad to hear that someone else mentioned the fact that the Packers were keeping in the RB and TE to help protect. I thought too that it really limited what the Packers were able to do on offense compared to other weeks where they could send those players out on routes. Excellent analysis (especially since it agrees with me wink.gif ).

Into the podcast about 45 minutes and I have to say that I agree with you once again. I think more so than just the Seahawks blowout, I think the Packers team thought this game was their's. Compare that to the other side of the field where they had to fight for every game to get where they were. I felt like the Packers thought everything was lining up for them. The game ended up being at home, they kept getting break after break with the Giants keeping them in the game, yet no one stepped up to take advantage of it.

I think the Packers didn't have enough games toward the end of the year where they really had to fight for the win.

In honor of Chris & Dave a stream of consciousness response.

They run the screens to close to the line. They need more separation. This has been a complaint of mine all season and I can't figure out why they don't fix it. The screens won't work until they do.

They did not call enough running plays, you need to call a few in a row to allow the line to warm up. Farve got cold in 3rd quarter and I think his throws displayed what Terry Bradshaw discussed, they got tighter and tighter as the game wore on. Running would at least have used up time on the clock. I think sometimes McCarthy doesn't use the clock effectively. You guys mentioned this at the end of the first half in the second Chicago game as well. Look at New England they had a 5 point lead at half, realized Brady wasn't at his best and leaned on running the ball in the second half. Marony carried 7 times in the first half and 18 in the second half. They didn't score again until the 4th quarter but they used up time for Charger possessions.

This is a young group and I think they get a little tight in the big games. Odd that Cowboys and Giants offensive game plans seem similar. Was it Farve or McCarthy? I think if you reviewed game film and think that the other team matches up well against you, you start going for the big plays to try to stay in it. Did he not like his match up against the Giants?

As a person living in Colorado I guess I missed the blow of the Broncos loss because I had seen them play all year and saw how good they were. I was very afraid before the game began. That 4th and 26 the next year and the last Cowboy loss in '95 were brutal. You get over the Cowboys though because they won the Super Bowl the next year. And that Philly game still really bothers me because of Farve's throw. Even though like the Giants game I felt the Packers were out played.

I look forward to your off-season podcasts.

Thanks for all the good comments. I am glad we saw the same things you guys did (and maybe offered a little extra perspective).

I hope no one was too put off by the length of the podcast. Stream of consciousness is one way to put it, but we were obviously as distraught about the outcome as a lot of other fans. It's just that we get to vent into mics and post it on the Internet...

I guess the program is as much therapy for us as it is for those who download it. In this way, maybe we are like on of Dr. Bob Harley's support groups, but virtual. And without Mr. Carlin.

Glad you enjoyed the most recent program.

We'll record a fresh one tomorrow and then about one per month until training camp open in the summer.

Chris and Dave, thanks so much for this episode, and for a great season.

This was such a strange season for me. It was kinda nice starting out the season with no expectations, and able to take or leave any games outcome. But wouldn't ya know it, they turned out to be good, and sucked me in again! Sunday night was tough (after the game), but I really felt over it by Monday evening. Maybe I'm getting older wiser, maybe my daughter has given me new perspective, or maybe (this is most likely) this team feels completely different that say the '97 team. The '97 team, as you said, did feel like a team with its window closing. It sucks to not cash in when you have such a big opportunity dropped in your lap. However, it feels like this team is just on the cusp of greatness.

Lets all hope our expectations don't run too wild next year, or we'll be needing a lot more therapy!

Thanks again guys. I truly enjoyed it.

I'm really looking forward to the offseason podcast. During the regular season, I can get some packer chat around here, but in the offseason, nothing. It'll be nice to feel the Packer connection even in the offseason.
