Whoever was in the chat room tonight and wasn't going loco and cursing up a storm, probably felt very uncomfortable. I know I did. I've always liked to be in the chat rooms on gameday and get other fans' opinions on the game as it progresses, tonight was the worst I've ever seen it.

You would think I'm talking about Cowboys fans coming in and talking trash. No, I'm not (that was pretty minimal). I'm talking about our own members saying very foul language. People were cursing very badly on plays they didn't like, towards players, the referees, and even attacking fellow PackerChatters members (I even had a rude comment made towards me for trying to help LMG out and control the chat more). It was bad. And people felt the need to use foul language so much, that they would take the extra time to use extra characters to make out the curse words.

And then all this excessive cursing all night long was factored into the:

WTF?!
no way!!1!
i can't believe th3s3 r3fs!!1!!111!!
!?!?!?!?
WTF! WTF?
that was BS!
WTF?!?!?!?!?!

If you haven't been in a game day chat, that what you see with some actual talk about the game speckled in every once in a while.

I mean, the chat is just getting ridiculous as of late. It seems no one in there comes in with respect. A lot of people just act childish and feel the need to express their feelings right when something happens. If you want to say something after every play, try to think.

The chat is basically unusable at this point. You're allowed to come in without an account, which I think makes worse. It's hard for LMG to moderate, as one person, an entire chat room for a 3+ hours. More moderators are needed (I'm available).

I think to enter the chat room, you must be logged into a PackerChatters account because this can be used as a deterrant since you're under your actual account.

It needs to be made clear that bypassing the words filter list is a punishable offense. And saying stuff like "WTF" or "WTH" is also bypassing the words filter list, and therefore also should not be allowed.

Here's one situation last night (will not be named):

****: WTF, you can't even use crapp in this chat
Me: This chat room is PG
****: Crapp is PG
Me: This is not the place for derrogatory remarks
****: Blow me Vots

Unacceptable. For at least the next couple games, the chat room needs to have my proposed changes AND a 0% tolerance policy. See how people act after that.

We were hoping people would be more respectable but it seems there are always some that need to express their manhood with the use of foul language.

Here is the intro message everyone see's on entry into the Chat Room on Game Day;

QUOTE
Join the pre-game starting 30 minutes before kickoff and then stick around for the game at 7:15pm CST tonight as fans that do have access to the game keep everyone else updated on everything about the game.

Post game comments follow the game....all 'Live' starting at 6:45pm Central for the Green Bay Packers vs Dallas Cowboys showdown game at Texas Stadium.

Remember we are PG rated and any use or the inferring of out of taste words/language is not acceptable. Treat our Chat home like you would your own home.

Either people do not read this or don't care.

Our intention was to have a Chat Transcript made available on the PackerChatters website the day following the Game for people to read that could not make the Chat....this has not been possible because of the comments of some.

With that for the rest of the season the Game Day Chat will require a password to participate. People wanting to participate will need to send an email to PackerChatters@gmail.com with their member name and intentions. Once their name is verified as a member we will issue a password. Passwords will not be issued the day of the game.

We will reveiw last nights transcript and some people will not be allowed in.

This obviously causes a lot more work for us but we feel it necessary.

Thanks for taking these actions, hopefully this is going to make chats much more enjoyable.

vots and LMG, you need to realize this is the culture we're living in. I'm a high school teacher; my wife teaches in a middle school. To the upcoming generation, language is a weapon, not a communication device. Good grief- I nail my students for saying (excuse me) "Hell" in a sentence, and they simply don't understand. They hear this on TV on a regular basis, and this, along with (excuse me again) "damn" are regularly used. Understand, I have explicitly (without swearing) know that these words were unacceptable in my classroom.
Now, unfortunately, the younger population thinks using the "f-word" is entirely acceptable. Its another generation. I'm sure our parents (I know mine did) lamented the end of their understanding of civility.
Time goes on. And (hopefully) civilization will continue. Though a lot cruder than we're used to.

you should hear the "music" my son listens to. i've never understood the appeal of ©rap music. take four beats of music and repeat it over and over with little or no variation for three and a half minutes while some dude talks incoherently and some other dude in the background yells "oh" every few seconds. but i digress. i've made evry effort to at least try to appreciate it because that's what my son likes to listen to. in all fairness, he also listens to my classic rock and almost everything he has learned to play on the guitar is from my catalog of music. oh. wow. i digressed again. anyway, the trash that comes out of the mouths of these rappers is just unbelievable. it's no wonder kids these days talk the way they do.

i've never been offended by words. i come from the lenny bruce and george carlin school of thought. words only have the power that you, as the listener, give them. just the same, i've never once used one of the seven words that you can't say on television around my son. hopefully he's picked up on the fact that it's not really cool to use those words in your everyday conversations.

The chat room is there on gameday to discuss the game. Not to learn how to scream & yell or attack other people with foul language.

I know my self I say some stupid thing's some times over some bad plays. I'm trying to change from that, but it's not to easy for me at times and I know I get mad at my self when I act stupid. I get way too much into the game and I say thing's I don't want to say and I'm trying to work on that. I know it's only a game and I shouldn't be getting too mad from a game, down yes, but mad no. After this pass game I did say I was sorry for some of the thing's I said. I just ask that you guys don't give up on me.

We all get mad/upset and say things we don't mean, but this is a chat room/forum. You have time to think about what you're typing and not enter your post if it is offensive. Maybe thats why I don't have 2500 posts, I take a few seconds to proof read them. Yeah things slip through but some posts here you can hardly understand. And swearing?? How about this - mad.gif - instead, all of us here understand that!!

Alright. I do agree with many things you say Vots, but can you honestly say when you watch a Packer game and something goes wrong you say to yourself "oh fiddlesticks!", or do you say something along the lines of "oh crap, that sucks!". The whole point of a chat is to immediately say what comes to mind, that's why it's instant messenging. If you want to take time before you write you use the forums, at least that's what i thought.

I know you'll respond with, "that sort of stuff shouldn't be written to begin with". But this is, for me, the reason i come to these chats. To share and discuss both the game and interpret other peoples emotions towards the game. To me, it makes the experience more exciting! I do agree however that the excessive cursing should come to a stop. At a point during the chat it seemed one person started to curse so many went along with it. I dont mind the occasional "bs call" remark, because i can picture watching the game with my family (whom im miles away from at school) saying the exact same things. I guess my bottom line is people come to the chats expecting different things. I enjoy both the game discussion and reading how other people are feeling. But maybe I'm alone.

I just have a feeling these chats may turn into a ghost room. Where no one speaks except the odd "woohoo" on a touchdown because of over the top censorship. I found the chat as fun as ever before this last game, and hopefully it'll go back to that. Hopefully this thread can set some people straight so we can continue as it is.

I tell my young son that people that don't have a good vocabulary use swear words to cover the fact, that they can't speak well.Or in this case, write well.

That doesn't matter. The chats are PG. Since they are PG, I go there expecting a PG conversation.

Unlike at your house where you say these things instantly, with a chat room you can be more civil and think before you write. Your whole point is moot.
Vinnie
While I agree with Vots regarding the personal attacks, should probably be sequestered. On the other hand, I thought some of the abbreviations were a means of sticking to the PG rating? For instance, the one mentioned "WTF," many off color words have been abbreviated to make them less offensive. Dig into the orgin of gosh and golly.

I use "colorful" language and maybe when I shouldn't, but hey, I am from the wrong side of the tracks and spent maybe a little too long in the service and overseas fighting. I am crusty- sorry, but if you need help in the trenches call me!

Vots, since I know you do not like it, I will make sure I do my part to not offend you.

After reviewing over the weekend the Cowboys Game Day chat transcript and seeing there were only a handful of disrespectful people involved in the bad language going on we are going to back off making the Game Day Chat password protected.

We will however have Moderators in the Chat Room to make sure fans can feel comfortable once again in enjoying good live discussion on the game.

To all those that sent email requesting password access we thank you for your interest.

Are you going to make people sign in on their accounts? The chats have been anonymous so people can just re enter under another name.
LMG
We cannot 'make' people sign in with their member name unless we password protect the Chat Room. Why some sign in with a different name than here is strange however we do have people coming in that are not members of our Forums.

Hopefully fans will be more in tune with what we expect and our Mods will keep the peace.
