The new poll up on JSonline asks, Did the Packers' ugly victory over Dallas make you feel any better about their season?

73% of the 1315 polled say yes.

On the other hand, it didn't make me feel that much better. I still saw 4 sacks, that i'm sure are correctable, and an offense that couldn't find it's rhythm until late in the game. The O still looks uninspired to me. They are only going through the motions. The D though. look like a team. They were inspired. They were picking each other up, celebrating together and seemed to be on the same page.

Am I the only one seeing this?

That looks about right.

I am starting to put more and more on the coaching staff. The team seemed to have won despite the coaching, not because of it.

MM should have drawn a penalty for the 3rd challenge call. The challenge on Nelson's almost TD was just plain poorly advised. The risk-reward was not worth it at all.

Yes but the oline is still a massive concern. I won't feel good about this team until that gets fixed... if that gets fixed.

You must be new here.

Myself, every win makes me feel good. Every win against a quality opponent makes me feel better. And beating the #$*@ Cowboys always makes me feel great.

What I don't understand is people who watch the game regularly when they can't enjoy a win. I mean, why watch in that case? Life's too short to be miserable all the time.

I feel great about that win. I just don't want to see Rodgers get his head knocked off.
OH Packer revisited
I just think the pack are one of those schizophrenic teams. They have the talent to play with anyone in the NFL. They also seem to be prone to mental errors and poor performances that cause them to lose games. So I think you may see a few more great performances and a few more dismal ones. Hope I'm wrong though and this is a turning point.

I feel good about the win. An ugly win is better than an ugly loss.

Would I like to see the oline improve and the special teams more consistant. Indeed. However, I'm not gonna get too bummed out when the Pack get a W. If we lost ugly I'd be a little mad.

I don't feel better ABOUT THE SEASON.

I will need to see the defense bring that type of game a few more times.

The offense still has many of the same problems.

Special Teams seemed to play a bit better, but I don't believe they convinced anyone they are in the top half of the league.

Coaching appeared improved. I still question some of MM's play calling and in game management. I'm still wondering if that 3rd red flag was just dumb or a clever ruse to disrupt the Cowboys offense. I'm leaning towards dumb.

PS, I'm gonna savor the win for a few days, then it will be business as usual.

I don't understand. How can you NOT feel better about a win? The question isn't "Do you feel the PAckers will be inthe playoffs?" or anything else like that. How can you NOT feel better about 5-4 vs 4-5?

Secondly, I have a big problem with the term UGLY win. I realize many people have a problem watching a tough defensive game, but that's what I prefer. Nothing ugly about great defense in my opinion. You can keep your 48-34 track meet games. When I want that, I'll watch Big 12 football on Saturdays.

I do feel much better after yesterday's win... it tells me that the players haven't quit. The running game ripped-off 3 or 4 VERY nice runs bounced to the right side, but were called back for holding. THAT needs to get "cleaned up", as those runs would've opened-up the game and playcalling. Hard to get into a rythm when instead of 1st & 10 at the ?? you're 2nd & 20, 30 yards back from the end of the play. Stupid penalties ... need to go.

... BUT, the Cowboys offense was completely stymied - excellent D plan AND execution. Now, I'd like to see at LEAST 2 more weeks of this D, allowing the offense to build-up confidence and get rolling heading into Baltimore, Chicago, and Pittsburgh!

They finally got a win against a quality opponent, and a fairly convincing one at that. Of course that's going to make me feel better. That doesn't mean I suddenly think they're superbowl contenders, but I'm daring to entertain thoughts of making the playoffs.

If nothing else they showed some heart to bounce back from last week. That alone should make a person feel better.

That's not the question either. It's: does the win make you feel better about the Packers' season? If you were a Chiefs fan, for instance, you could legitimately argue that an ugly win over the Raiders won't change your team's destiny, and didn't show you much that was positive about the team that you didn't know already (eg, the Raiders are terrible, Dwayne Bowe is quite athletic, etc).

Great defense isn't ugly. Those Ravens and Steelers slogfests aren't always elegant, but they're quite captivating.

Ugly is a game with 22 penalties. Ugly is poor ball-skills, feeble line play, and Derek Anderson throwing two-yard checkdowns which are then dropped by Josh Cribbs. Ugly is using timeouts you don't have, making pointless challenges that you stand no chance of winning, and being so afraid of your own punt returner that you have him fair-catch every ball.

In that respect, defense aside, Packers-Cowboys wasn't always pretty. But it was a valuable win.

I totally agree. I was so down last week that I read nothing and watched nothing about pro football all week. I am now revitalized! Granted the penalties and sacks did not improve, but at least they played with some emotion. All things considered, the defense played one of their best games ever. I am excited again for next week.

I'm as big a proponent of the significance of coaching as anyone. But I don't think one can go game by game and selectively attribute wins and losses to either coaching or talent. I think that saying that a big win is in spite of the coaching is coming from a very prejudicial viewpoint, which has basically pre-decided that the coaching is bad.

In any event, I never think it's an either/or proposition. There's a dynamic here and the whole team means players and coaches. Yes, perhaps I tend to put more emphasis on coaching than many, but whatever the case, I would not turn around after a big win and not be able to credit the coaches in the same breath.

Sure, I feel good about the team after a big win. But I haven't felt badly about the team so much (though I concede that I slipped some last week) as I've felt frustrated. I think the team is better than their record, just as I did last year. So, sure, in that sense, I tend to blame the coaching more.

I think McCarthy is under a lot of pressure and it's rattling him. He's like someone trying to be someone (or project the image of being someone) that doesn't really fit him - and the more impossible it gets, the more he's trying rather than just shaking loose of all those preconceptions about who he should be and letting go. I think he'd be a better coach if he wasn't trying to live up to some idea of what a coach is supposed to be like.

I think Rodgers too is rattled. I get the sense that he's going through a crisis of confidence and it's been making him indecisive. Someone said that late game pass for a third down conversion that threaded the needle was the first they'd seen him throw the ball before the final cut was made by the receiver. I don't know if this is so, but it sounds like the kind of throwing he needs to be doing and would be doing more of if he stopped trying so hard (mentally) and just let go a bit.

The line is what it is.

The defense was what it should and could be on a regular basis. For them alone, yes, I feel better about the remainder of the season.

But overall, it's hard to suddenly feel better about the season after one game. The team has yet to show itself that it can muster up those wins and that confidence week after week. I think the potential is definitely there to play lights out for the rest of the season, but I can't say I have more confidence now that it will happen. Obviously, a game we all expected to lose does make some difference when the team churns out a victory, so one can't say there is absolutely no more confidence in the team, but I don't think it's a significant difference.

I didn't see something happen that absolutely has to happen with the offense. It's possible however that the defense might save the team's season and that the lights will go on for the offense before playoffs. Possible. Likely? I doubt it. And even then, it may not be enough. The line, as I said, is what it is and unfortunately the special teams are what they are too.

Perfectly said. Even living in the SF Bay Area, I am surrounded by friends of mine who are Cowboy Fans. I was at my girlfriends house in Berkeley and we laughed, cheered, jumped up and down, and high-fived each other throughout the game and even after the game. As a school teacher, I went to work wearing my Rodgers Jersey to remind my students that the 49ers are next.

I laughed.

First, the mantra was we weren't winning convincingly enough against the likes of the Rams (who nearly upset the Saints). Then, we decidedly blow out the Lions and Browns. But, that was the Lions and the Browns (those don't count).

Then the mantra became, we hadn't won a big game since Indy last year after coming up small against the Vikes and Bengals. Then, we finally win a big game against the streaking Cowboys. But, the refs helped us and it doesn't fit the agenda of getting TT/MM out the door.

When are fans going to enjoy wins? The criteria for a good win is ever-changing. I am so glad to see the team respond after such a disappointment against TB. The season is NOT OVER!!!

I don't feel much better about the win. Sure we finally beat a good team and I always love beating the Cowboys but this team is simply too inconsistent. Let's not forget that we beat the 12-4 Colts at Lambeau last year at around this time of year and our record was pretty similar. This team can hang with any team in the NFL but can also find ways to lose to the bottom feeders as well. Just like last year. I'll believe this team is for real when they are 7-4. If they aren't 7-4 in two weeks, the season is over in my book. Our next two opponents have losing record and we should be able to beat them. If we can't, then we simply aren't any good.
