THE GOOD THE BAD THE UGLY:

Well I missed posting last week, I was traveling and it all started off us as a BAD Day with Us Losing to the lowly SMUCKANEERS…. So basically last week it was nothing But UGLY:

So we go through the week, we have new signatures; we have the FIRE TT AND MM at FULL tilt… I saw all the threads and kept my Opinion to myself… So be it… We all have them and I am Glad I stayed away from the frey…. To emotional after losses to the FavreQueens and SMUCKS….

So On to Today: Many had cast this off for a definite LOSS, I mean, how this team can come out with the intensity to WIN a MUST HAVE GAME… I mean MM and TT are clueless. We can only beat the Bottom Feeders…. And even lose to one of them… Kind of like the Broncos did, Like the Eagles have done….

PROPS OUT to "BIG APPLE CHEESE" on the Post ""Look in the mirror" -- THE MEETING….

You know there comes a time in the season when a team has an AHA moment and Defining moment.

That Meeting could have started it and this Win today could have pronounced it… Still being Optimistic in a sense but keeping it close to the vest… I will not go out and pronounce Playoffs as this was ONE game out of 16.. I will not get my hopes up… But we could look back at the Loss to TB and the Meeting this last week and this game as a Turning Point…..TIME WILL TELL….But every year a team has one of these moments in the season….This could be ours…And that meeting my friends is LEADERSHIP on this team…TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY for themselves and how they have been playing…

Special Note… Whether we as fans like MM or not… it appears his team and players have some respect for the man and like him, I just Saw Barnett come up and give the GAME BALL TO MM on the FOX OT….

THE GOOD:

rolleyes.gif -AR – Good Overall Game… Did not see many times where he could have avoided the SACKS… Kept his head in the game and played well after last week's performance..Nice Bounce Back Game

huh.gif -Receivers: Overall good, JJ looks like he is starting to come on… Also need to find out why so many times they are not cutting off their routes. Havner looked good caught another TD…But Missed some important Blocks for Sacks…

unsure.gif -THE O Line…Not bad for One week being together and starting against the D like Dallas…the Dallas D may not be as dominant as others but they do play well… and Overall we came out Okay…Did we mistakenly find out RT in LANG….( ooops there is the place to vilify MM for not seeing it sooner..Yeap instead sorry I blame Campen…. )

RB- Looked good at times,,,Good runs getting called back by holding calls….( sorry another place to vilify MM)…Or just Maybe the O line or the receivers that got called should get there proverbial HEAD out of their REAR and not HOLD…..There is a new thought

smile.gif -THE DEFENSE and CAPERS-

Intensity…the Game plan… Excellent…. All over the field… I saw the posts and I hate to say it as wells but maybe the D does play better with Jones , Mathews and Thompson… I keep recalling a comment I heard the other week from the Game and the announcer stated something to the effect that he spoke with Kevin Green and Green stated he has to keep telling some of his LB'rs that they need to play this way and the LB's keep doing it their way until they come back to him and then he gets them to do it his way…mmmm..I am not stating something…but It does make you think…..Would be curious to see the Game film with the D in comparison to other games and see how this plays out… or just maybe it gets some fire up in Kampman….

And great to see hawk and Barnett BLITZING….These guys actually look better blitzing and yes Jones did cover okay when matched up….and had 7 tackles…..

Also held Dallas to under 100 yards and to only 7 Points….

ST---Why ..I know Crosby Missed another FG over 50…But What I did like was seeing CROSBY running down field and pumping up the coverage guys…

THE BAD: angry.gif

STUPID Penalties…. Would be nice to get these under control, but not only that we also have the REFS and the NFL and Other Teams reminded of it EVERY Week…So whether they are close or not we will not get the Benefit and the Team needs to know that…yeap again double digit penalties 12-100 yards…

Sacks--- Since I got blasted when I had this in GOOD… Well we gave up 4 Sacks today… not really that bad since this is the 6'th iteration of a starting LINE…. And my point on that is look what happened to the Dallas O line when they started switching up….mmmmmmm just thinking out loud….

THE UGLY:

Giving up that 7 to Dallas after holding them to 0 for 58 Minutes….

MM challenging them Plays after he got back down from the booth…He should have seen there was no need to challenge after he saw on the TV's up in the Booth….I mean this sarcastically… but really the A clowns up in the booth need to get a CLUE…..

Overall:

Am I happy being at 5-4 …..No Not at ALL….But let us not forget to remind ourselves ( as I am Sure others will point out)…. We only beat the lowly Rams, the lowly Lions, the Lowly Browns… and The Bears…..and Cowboys…

And lets also not forget that Eagles Lost, Falcons Lost, and oh yeah them Cowboys lost… This all helps us and the chances we have…

But I bet heads are really rolling in New Orleans.. How could they let the Rams stay in that Game… The Broncos have to be thinking about a new HC by losing to the Redskins… and the Falcon Faithfull have to be on edge after losing to the Panthers and let us not forget the Giants …OH yeah they had a bye week…so instead of losing 5 in a row…there still at 4 in a row….

So let's not get ahead of ourselves as others will point out all the problems of Dallas and how there in turmoil; and they have not really beaten anybody that is a GOOD team..So by no means are we a SB contender… So let's not go into the clouds on this win and get ahead of ourselves…

Am I glad to see this team rebound after 2 lousy performances …Oh Hell yeah.. That is a nice to see and say what you will but that cannot be taken away. This team responded well in all the naysayers and played a good team and WON….Yeah it could have been better, but guess what there is another team involved in every Game…and yes even in the prior 8 games there was another team that had GAME PLANNED against the Packers and they oooppps They forgot but they wanted to WIN too….Just Saying….

GO PACK GO…Nice Win and now let's smack the Niners….and get another conference win….

Dallas – 6-3 Conf 5-2 (Redskins, Raiders, Giants, Chargers, Saints, Redskins, Eagles)

Philly – 5-4 Conf 4-2 (Bears, Redskins, Falcons, Giants, Niners, Broncos, Dallas)

Falcons -5-4- Conf 4-3 (Giants, Bucs, Eagles, Saints, Jets, Bills, Bucs)

Pack – 5-4 Conf 4-3 (Niners, Lions, Ravens, Bears, Steelers, Seahawks, Cards)

Giants – 5-4 Conf 3-3 ( Falcons, Denver, Dallas, Eagles, Redskins, Panthers, Viqueens)

So As you can see this is anybody's game to take a WILDCARD SPOT….Now I don't want to be a downer, But I want the Giants Out of this before they play the Queens… I if you think about that game, you get the gist of what I am saying…

The "come to Jesus" meeting took place with members of the offensive unit, so if you want to give the DEFENSIVE UNIT props for a meeting they weren't part of go ahead. It looked to me like this meeting did nothing to alleviate the problems the offense is having. The defense played out of their collective minds. I love the way CM3 plays and I think there may have been a Nick Barnett sighting this evening. Props to the veterans of our defensive unit for rallying the troops. Great ball game, I hope it continues.

They were talking about that meeting during the pregame on FOX, and reported that the D had a similar meeting soon afterward. It kinda trickled out to the rest of the team. Overall, a solid win, IMO. Looking forward to next week against SF.

I have seen enough negativity on the board the last few weeks... If You are going to State something I wrote I just ask it to be correct... And for one I have seen enough post form ATL that he can respond on his own..he is a big boy...the post I mad in response was to ATL...Not you .......unless you are the board monitor....

I don't know about anyone else but I like those chances for a Wild Card spot. It's very doable IMO. Today is only one game but that's all they need to do, is take it one game at a time. Bring that intensity every game and see where things fall. Great win today and here's to a great playoff push. Go Pack!!

AROD Good

no Id say bad but not ugly..almost ugly. Offense looked weak overall. The good wasalmost all defense.

And McCarthy still needs to go.

The good: My team beat my wife's team.
The bad: Probably going to be stuck dancin' with myself for a while.

I don't know if I'd classify the penalties as "stupid penalties". For the most part they were of the "oh hell, I'm beat, need to hold" variety. The offensive line is still a big negative. I suppose it could have been worse. Dallas has a strong pass rush.

All things considered I thought Rodgers played well. Completed over 2/3 of his passes. Packers converted almsot half their 3rd downs, nearly all of them by passing I believe. Didn't throw any INTs. Yeah, could have lost a couple fumbles, but the offensive line shares in those. He was faced with a lot of 2nd and 15s, 1st and 20s, etc. As MM said at halftime, you only have so many plays in the playbook for those kinds of down and distances.

Could not believe the pressure we were getting on the QB. That was fantastic and very unexpected. If that continues, we have a chance.

sledhed
Yeah, how about that Havner guy? Why would he want to line up on the right side if the guy he was supposed to block was on the left side? Why didn't he just have someone on the left side of the line block him? Doesn't he know anything about designing plays?

It is far past time guys start pulling their heads out of their asses. Maybe one day the head coach will recognize that as well, and start doing something other than offering lip service. Don't expect a player to have discipline when the coach doesn't give it.

This is more like I expect a talented, but poorly coached team should play.

It didn't hurt that some calls went the Packs way either.
VA_PackFan
I actually did not have much of a problem with the offensive line today. Yeah, its not great, but Ware only had 2 sacks with the Cowboys only have 4 total. You knew Ware would get a sack or two, but it was an overall solid job, today, IMO. There is one telling stat, that goes with this, though. Although Rodgers was sacked 4 times, he only lost 11 yards. Conversely, Romo was sacked 5 times for 35 yards lost. It might not be a total reflection on the offensive line, but it definitely shows that Rodgers is making better decisions with the ball.

The defense... wow... game of the year, easily, so far. Holding the Cowboys to only 61 yards rushing? Witten a non-factor? Pressure in Romo's face all day? Absolutely incredible today. Oh, and Charles Woodson is a man beast. Period.

Great performance.

I am as well.

Sometimes you have to win the ugly ones. They still count as w's. I like how our D came up and challenged them and punched them in the mouth.

For afficianados (sic) of the offense it wasn't a great game. But if you like d and like hitting it was. I enjoyed it immensely.

If there is one team outside of our div. I could come close to hating it'd be Dallas. I just love it when we beat that team. biggrin.gif
PackerJB
Well that meeting during the week was a waste of time. Rodgers still holds onto the ball way too long, dumb penalties and the oline continuouosly getting shredded. The only reason we won this game is defense. Now if only the Packers offense can get something going, we may be onto something. Until then we can only hope for success.

That's the beauty of Team concept. One week the D might have to prop up the O or vice versa. Keep plugging along until all units click together. Sometimes things get fixed one at a time.

hmmmm ... Well Glad you could respond... But it appears not a lot of substance... or anything that is related to the TOPIC....

Sorry I was traveling to some place in Jersey.... Was a lousy drive ..... traffic accidents and all sunday afternoon created a 4 hour drive to extend to 6.5 hours.....And going to Jersey is never a convienence for me....

I can speak from many areas of expierence, strength, weakness, I think my prior posts on this forums speaks to that .....but it appears you prefer speak to the negative on a majority...

I guess to each his own.................But I like to think on my own and make my own anlaysis.....and have the confidence to state it rather then view others and disagree and add nothing of substance...Kinda like Monday Morning QB's.....

The beauty of this is that the Eagles, Cboys, Falcons and Giants all play each other yet. So they can beat each other up. I hate to say this but I will probably be pulling for the Cowboys when they play the Eagles and Giants.

Well that meeting during the week was a waste of time. Rodgers still holds onto the ball way too long, dumb penalties and the oline continuouosly getting shredded. The only reason we won this game is defense. Now if only the Packers offense can get something going, we may be onto something. Until then we can only hope for success.

We all know pass protection "needs some work", but Grant averaged 4.2 YPC yesterday. I feel AR did try to get rid of the ball yesterday and as a result fumbled twice. So I guess it is a pick your poison situation. Two more turnovers puts us at a league leading +13. I am not the pessimist PackerJB is, and feel we are not at the bottom of the mountain. We have a top 5 defense and believe it or not we are 11th in the league in passing 12th in rushing.

While we all knew the defense would be a work in progress, it's good to see it come along. The last two weeks, the defense has not shown up when needed. I'm hoping the D builds on this and carries it forward. We need this important phase to show up every week.

Special teams continues to be a problem. Kapinos is just not getting it done. Coverage was a little better though.

Offensively, MM needs to pick an o-line and stick with it. The lineman are openly speaking about being shuffled around and how tough that is (Lang's comments most recently). The shuffling cannot continue. I'm glad they did not move Lang over to Colledge's spot when he went out briefly. Not because Lang wouldn't do well there, but he will have to adjust yet again. The roster is way overloaded at RT now if Lang will stay at RT. I guess Giacomini is practicing at LT now (that's a disaster) or at least he was last week, so there's yet another shuffle. I'm amazed at how poorly the OL has been handled to date. Yes, injuries are a part of it, but the coaches have seen these guys day-in and day-out, how they practice, reviewed game tape, etc. It can't continue!

I think that Pickett is quietly having a very good year , he has been a man clogging the middle and that is the foundation of the run defense. Raji is increasing his playing time each week along with his quality of play.Jolly is also playing well he seems to get a tipped pass every game and also very stout at the point of attack. Jenkins is the closest to being in the pro bowl of the GB Dlineman and was sorely missed last year.I hope that TT is able to keep both Jolly and Pickett but they probably will only be able to keep one of them. It would be huge if they could pull off keeping both for another two years as the Dline would be dominant setting the tone for this defense.

I was surprised that Havner was not used more yesterday. When Finely comes back look for MM to run some 3 te formations with passes to any of the three. The run game is looking tough , Grant and Green are both running with power and I think that they will break off a long one soon.If Clifton can hold up the rest of the season the new Oline alignment should produce better results. Evan Dietrich Smith looks like a keeper to bad they let Meridith go and kept Breno.

On that note while watching the Colts - Patriots game Daniel Muir looked pretty good too bad he was let go.That to me was the only ugly about yesterday as it was very enjoyable to see a tight defensive battle with a win over the Cowpukes.

I'm usually very optimistic. I don't know what it is with this season. I'm just in a bad mood. Sorry! tongue.gif
I promise, if the Packers fix the oline and stop the penalties, I'll be pissin' optimism around here!

Funny, I feel the same way. I don't know what it is but it was very difficult for me to enjoy this victory. I'm still seeing the same mistakes and penalties and I came away from the game thinking Dallas was just flat. I did learn something, however, about our blitz packages. That LB twist/stunt that Barnett and Hawk do, that up to this point has been stonewalled, I now believe can/will be more successful with a greater effort. I haven't seen either of those guys rush the passer with more desire and energy as they did in this game. Hawk normally pussyfoots around when seeing a blocker step up. The Dallas game, Hawk blasted his guy and kept after Romo. Will we see this continue? We will see.

Anybody know what became of the 5 wide set? I thought it worked pretty good last year.

Injuries at WR and TE. Plus, lack of protection I think. AR has been hammered even with an extra blocker or two in to block.

Lack of blocking plus having moved some of the practice squad wr's up who might not be completely up to speed on the defense yet might have some bearing as well.

I liked that set as well, it always seemed to create a mismatch.

You know, this may be a crazy thought, but watching Sunday's game i couldn't help wondering if the emergence of Matthews is part of the reason Hawk is picking up his game. Here's this guy, 2 or 3 years younger, coming in and right from the get-go playing pretty much the way we were all expecting Hawk to play when we drafted him. I can't help wondering if that embarrassed him a bit, set an example, made him worry about his job security, or whatever - but something seems to have inspired the guy at the exact same time Matthews started carving out a spot for himself in the lineup. Maybe it's just coincidence, but it did make me wonder a bit.

I've been really impress with Hawk and Barnett. They usually don't get much pressure but they've been coming on latley. I like that Hawk seems to be playing with a lot more fire than he usually does. Has he finally woken up?

I think it's more about Chillar than Matthews. Chillar came in as an unheralded FA pick up and has played Hawk's supposed game better than Hawk has. So much so that he was essentially benched a few games ago. Chillar's injury has given AJ another chance and he has certainly upped his game. A little pressure isn't a bad thing.

Good article today by Rory Lee of the PC Staff;

Is this a defensive team?

Couple of excerpts;

"Barnett is finally healthy, and as a result, he is putting together one of his better seasons."

"Hawk too has silenced some of his critics. He remains reliable and assignment steady...."
