I don't remember where I found it, but I have it on dvd. Released in 2004, it won a ton of best picture awards at small film festivals. It's set during WWII, only a few minutes of battle scenes, no gore, and really very little blood. It has been one of my all time favorite movies. I don't believe there's any foul language either. A very small cast of characters, (nobody famous) excellent cinematography and musical score. It kind of reminds me of Private Ryan, without all of the Hollywood.
I watched Saints and Soldiers a few months ago and thought it was terrific. Definitely depicts the tragedy that is war. It reminded me of A Midnight Clear. It too was a tragic episode of WWII and another small budget production. Great films both, in my opinion, but NOT light entertainment!

I saw this on Netflix and highly recommend it for anyone. My father was one of the first soliders to enter Malmady after the massacure and I wanted to see it specificly for that reason. I was surprised how good the film was done. My son has a film going for funding and I keep telling him to use Saints and Soldiers as a model.

Thanks for the heads-up, Sledhed... I'll be watching this weekend.
I never knew about this period in WWII... very sobering and informative. Unfortunately, the brutal, heinous acts that used to only occur in war are now acted-out daily throughout America.

I get choked up every time I watch it, but it always leaves me with hope for humanity. I guess it reminds me of all the people from different backgrounds that I've met in the Military. For me, it's more a people story than a war story.

No question about it, both "Soldiers" and "Midnight" are about humanity. Great perspective Sledhed, thanks!

Agreed, this is a good one. I was browsing through the on demand Netflix movies on my 360 about a month or so ago and came across this movie. Had never heard of it before, but it was definitely a good watch.
