Wassup Pack fans. Just stopped by for some football discussion, and to wish you good luck in our upcoming game.

First:

I read a lot of the replies in the Dallas thread started in the "Next Opponent Game Day" section. I was definitely surprised by some of the objective thoughts there.

Many of you have us winning on Sunday, and then there are some who still have faith in the Pack to pull out the win.

Believe it or not, our message boards are almost identical. Most of us realize that GB is no pushover team. We will be facing a squad coming off an upset game (that actually lost me $) and fighting for their playoff hopes - AT HOME.

Then we have the Cowboys-are-holier-than-thou folks who don't remember how up and down our team plays from week to week. (Sans the last 4 weeks) Romo is doing well now, but.......well....you know.

Hopefully it continues, but who really knows?

Second:

I fully expect you guys to address your O Line problems this week. Whether moving personnel around or Rodgers getting rid of the ball quicker, I know we won't be playing the same team of last week.

Of course I hope we win, but here's to a good game with no injuries.

Every game is important, but I think this one for the Cowboys is slightly diminished, especially after that huge road win over the Eagles. Not to say that the Cowboys won't be up for this game (I'm hoping they won't be) but of the two teams, Green Bay needs it way more then they do. If the Cowboys win it, they'll have earned it.

Strange, but the Cowboys seem more likely to have a big late season run this year because they don't have T.O. Actually, not strange. That's "The Ewing Theory" on full display.

Good luck to you guys too.... Should be a great game...

Good points, but I'd have to disagree that this isn't a big game for us as well.

We have GB, WAS, and OAK before December. Not to say that Romo will melt down again this year, but again, who knows?

With victories in all of these games, we could be at 9-2 before December. That could be a HUGE factor in the rest of the regular season.

The Eagles are 1 game behind us and the Gnats are 1 1/2 games behind.

A better record at the end of the year could save us any head-to-head match up for the division title.

So I hope we come out with the same intensity that you guys will have on Sunday.

Been working on the o-line problem for one and a half years now. Most PACKER FANS aren't expecting big improvements, well some of the more optimistic among us might be.

BCF, I have a few questions. And, by the bye, you have definitely lucked into one of the best (if not the best) Packers sites on the web.

First, I was the author of the "game day thread". I started out the season optimistic, and have gotten increasingly pessimistic and upset with each loss. I now believe I know how Dallas fans feel about Phillips. wink.gif Anyway, here's the question- why exactly are Cowboys fans worried? Romo has a sparkling record (13-1 in November); the Cowboys OL is big and almost inpenetrable; the Cowboys RB's are effective; the defense, if not awesome, at least gets the job done. I believe the Cowboys will try to isolate Austin on Harris, and Witten on Kampman, or any other Packer LBer.

Second, thank you for having so much faith in our coaches and OL. Packers fans do not share that optimism. Including me.

Finally, thanks for the "good game with no injuries". A couple of years ago, the inimitable Mrs. ricky and myself attended the game in Dallas where Favre was hurt, and Rodgers led a comeback that fell short. Why attend that game? The same reason we attended a Texans game against the Packers a few years ago in Houston- we are transplanted Cheeseheads, now living in Harlingen, Texas (about 20 miles from the border, and 30-40 miles from South Padre Island). For purely personal reasons, I am hoping for a Packers victory. I am a high school teacher (World History), and the kids razz me unmercifully if the Cowboys win when the two teams play (which they have done in a lopsided manner the last few years). It is nice to read a mild-mannered, non-"rah-rah" Cowboys fans. I have not met many in almost 16 years in Texas. Its a refreshing change.

Again, a good game, and no injuries.

Here is to a good injury free game, with the Pack victorious, love Texas but hate the boy's can't help it.

Brooklyn:

i can see Dallas looking past this game, especially cos they're getting a lot of pub the last few weeks. they're coming off a huge win and spent all week reading about how great they are. they play a few softies coming up, and might be a little overconfident.

your team has 3 RBs who are better than anyone on our roster. your QB can be excellent or self-destruct, but his safety blanket Witten (probably the best all-around TE in the league) should be open all day, especially on plays where Kampy is trying to cover him.

2 questions for you from someone who hasn't watched a lot of Cowboys this year:

1. can your D stop the run?
2. how's your pass protection been?

To answer the question in bold:

First, it's the realistic Cowboys fans that are more concerned, than outright worried.

Even in your 4 losses this year, the scoreboard doesn't show how much you guys were really in those games.

I watch ALL the teams play every week, as do many fans of the sport itself.

And I really have more faith in the players than the coaches. Rodgers will be on the run for sure, but when he's not, 3 step drops will be in abundance. Bank on it.

I am, how do you say - a "Rah-Rah" type of fan. But only when provoked. Have you ever tried to talk football with someone who just can't stay on subject and has to start talking ish? That's when it's time to get Brolic.

As I type this, I'm at a friend's spot in Jersey, but I'm from Brooklyn, and WE GO HARD!!

Bold:

That's what worries me the most. We haven't been in the spotlight and have gotten a team chemistry and sense of purpose. I hate the fact that we're back under the microscope again. Patrick Crayton has shut his mouth for weeks. Now, all of a sudden, he's giving you guys locker-room material. SMH

1. So far, we've been pretty effective against the run. In fact, I think we set the tempo for teams to contain Brandon Jacobs this year.

2. In the beginning of the season, I think the coaches tried to work with Romo on staying inside the pockect. This DID NOT work well at all. He's a kid from Wisconsin, who idolized Favre growing up. It's not in his nature to stand there and wait for plays to develop.

So, now we're back to roll-out Romo, and things have been decent.

Aside from Flozell Adams' and Marc Columbo's guaranteed couple of false start penalties every game, I give the pass protection a B-.

Hate to argue with a guest, but I don't see any reason to believe Green Bay will be any better than they've been the first 8 games. Fixing the offensive line would require some combination of two things - first, decent players, and second, coaches who know how to use those players to fix the line. We don't have either ingredient. The line we've been seeing all year is the line we'll be seeing this Sunday. Just pray your defensive linemen don't pull their hamstrings sprinting past the statues of our left tackle and left guard.

As for the 3-step drops? Yeah, you would expect that sort of adjustment from a halfways intelligent football coach. But when you look at our sideline, what you see instead is Mike McCarthy. If he hasn't figured out the 3-step drop trick through the first 8 games, I see no reason to expect him to ever figure it out. The only way you'll see a flurry of short drops and quick passes is if Rodgers wises up and starts audibling them at the line of scrimmage, which again he has not yet done thus far and therefore gives me no reason to believe he'll suddenly start doing it this week.

I look for your boys to win big this week. If we're lucky, the Packers will find a way to keep it close, but I'd be amazed if we actually win this game. Enjoy your time here, and enjoy the game. I suspect you'll find it far easier to enjoy it than we will.
Torveaux
Even if they call a 3 step drop, AR will either get pressured or think he is getting pressured and roll-out. If he did this and ran, or threw the ball away, it would be OK. Instead he will hang onto it long enough to be bludgeoned by Ware or Arlington's latest backup DL man.
Vots
I've got to be one of the most optimistic people around, but even I'm admiring your optimism for Green Bay this week in terms of Rodgers and the O-line.

It would be awesome to finally see McCarthy start calling 3-step drops and those quick slants. But that's why I disagree with you, because me and all other Packers fans alike, have been waiting for these plays since week 1.

This pressure problem isn't just a problem that was just raised up last week during the TB game. That's been the problem the entire season. And the entire season we've been waiting for changes to be made but nothing happens. That's why a lot of people, myself included, are getting fed up with the current coaching regime.

I'm almost 90% certain that McCarthy is going to come out in this DAL game and continue to do what he's done all season. Deep passing plays and sporadic and random run calls, with no continuity. So Rodgers under pressure will continue to happen and I also expect the penalties to not be fixed.

Dallas fan, hopefully your enthusiasm is correct though about our sack problems and we'll see changes. But if you've watched what we watched all season long, I just can't see it.
