If Murphy decides to get a new GM and HC after the season he needs to be clear what he is looking for in a replacement. This is what I would be looking for in a GM

First and foremost the coach and GM are two totally different positions. If someone like Cower lets say says he wants to be in charge of personnel as well as what happens on the field I wish him well and cross him off my list

The GM oversees the cap management, contracts etc, the coaches in the field and the personnel department- scouting.
In my opinion he has to have a good understanding of these components but doesn't have to be an expert in all of them. In other words he needs to hire good people in each of these sections. I would look to see which candidates have experience hiring people, building a department and so forth to see how his judgement is.

Being a GM in Green Bay has disadvantages that other teams don't have, small market, small northern town that is not attractive to a lot of players etc. Someone who has experience in smaller , less desirable place e..g Indianapllis, KC would have a better appreciation of how to operate in Green Bay than someone who comes from San Diego lets say

The NFL in a few years could look a lot different than the current one, don't know what will happen to salary cap, revenues sharing etc. That means that making the right decisions in personnel are even more important- little room for error.

I would be looking for someone who is flexible, creative for lack of better words. Like I said the league may be different so the GM has to be able to adapt. Perhaps one way to measure that is by looking for broad experience, a person who has worked in different organizations, with different people might be more adaptable than someone who has been exposured to a narrower range of styles and systems

I have no idea which candidates out there meet these criterea best

The GM hires the head coach. My preference is for more of a ball control , physical offense- I could care less what kind of scheme they run on defense- but it should be an aggressive one. Special teams are a place where is relatively easy to make an impact as we saw on Sunday so I want a coach that values special teams.

But I think schemes are overated. As mentioned above getting players could be harder so the emphasis has to be on developing players. It is imperative the HC can put together a staff of teachers and motivators.

Well that's what I'd be looking for- how about you?
