Full Version: 5 things I'm SICK of seeing
PackerChatters > PackerChatters > Green Bay Packers News Talk

There are probably more, and I'd love to read your take. Here are 5 things that drive me crazy while watching the Packers.

1. Terrible Special teams coverage. HOW many times can they give up a short field to opposing offenses???? Had we made Tampa drive 70 yards on most drives, they NEVER would have put up that many points. Our defense, head to head with their offense was winning the battle most of the game. The field position battle never looked so big.

2. I can sum up about half the pass plays this way: Snap, Rodgers gets pressure from the ends, rolls out and manages to escape a sack in the pocket, rolls to the sideline holding onto the ball, still holding the ball looking downfield, still holding the ball, then either takes a sack or BARELY gets the ball away while still taking a hit. It's like deja vu all over again nearly every time on pass plays.

3. Holding penalties on kickoff and punt returns. HOW HARD IS IT TO SIMPLY NOT HOLD YOUR GUY WHILE BLOCKING? Apparently next to impossible. I don't buy the whole argument that "You can call holding on nearly every play". Then WHY do our opponent's special teams rarely get called? It's almost a given that there will be a bad block on our returns, it's gotten sickening.

4. Failure to stick with the running game when it is working!! By the 4th quarter against Tampa our running game was really clicking and they couldn't stop it. When we were still ahead we could have just pounded to rock on them and put it away. To make matters worse, when we do pass in these situations, the play-fake is nowhere to be seen!

5. Jarrettt Bush in coverage. WHY? Why is he even on the field during plays from scrimmage? They may as well put 'victim' on the back of his jersey. Not to mention his special teams play has been less than stellar.

I'm sure there are many more that can be added.

add:

zone run right

overemphasis on downfield passing game

Rodgers half-roll-out on play fake for deep pass -- this play is getting stale and has been figured out by even the lowly bucs. Plus, Rodgers ends up so deep on the roll out that he is aft of the pocket which leads to easy pressure.

missed long field goals

no play action pass following 2 or more good runs by Grant

LBs who blitz on a straight line...where's the stunts?

tperk
6-The seemingly too often need for the big play downfield. 3rd and 5 and we have 3 receivers running go routes while 1 receiver runs a 7 yard crossing route. When the 1 short receiver is covered, we have nothing except another sack.

Where is the West Coast Offense?

The back coming out of the backfield for a short dumpoff?

Where is the tight end? Why isn't he involved more?

Where is the mis direction? Rodgers rolls one way, then goes another?

That is a very good question.

This just baffles me. The Packers made every fringe personel decision with Special Teams in mind. How are they still bad? Just very disappointing.

Ted Thompson sitting in his luxury box.

Kampman in coverage during a five- or six-man blitz.

Bigby as the deep safety where his qualities (hitting, roaming) are wasted and his weaknesses (speed, coverage) exposed.

Brandon Jackson taking up a roster space while contributing nothing — really, Spencer Havner is a better kick returner than Jackson?

McCarthy sighing and looking dumbfounded at postgame media conferences.
PackerJB
MM repeating the same damn thing after every freakin loss.

One of the things that is driving me crazy the most, is Rodgers holding onto the ball way too long. Is it hard to just throw the ball away? Is he tryin to be Favre and make something outta nothing? It aint gonna happen. If there is nothing there after 3 seconds throw the ball away. Not difficult.

2A. Snap, Rodgers passes up the checkdowns when the deeper routes are covered. Whether he is pressured or not.

Because one person saw it necessary to "tweak" a very efficient placekicker's technique. One person would apparently rather have that same kicker emphasize hang time rather than just kick it through the endzone. One person saw it necessary to leave a poor punt returner on the field until he was injured. One person saw it necessary to bench another PR after a 45 yard return. (OK, MM copped to helping with that decision) One person lines up LB's and the shortest player on the team against 6' 4" WR's on onside kick attempts. I would also have to assume that, that same person is responsible for teaching his guys how and who to block and would be accountable for teaching his returners what direction to run when they field a punt.

In short, I'm sick of seeing the product of Shawn Slocum's coaching.

Add: McCarthy not interacting with his players to fire them up - instead, staring down at playlist and swaying side to side.
Does he even want to try anymore?

I'm sick of teams coming into Lambeau with no fear whatsoever. There is no home field advantage anymore.

Exactly!!! Why does McGenius (not to be confused with Mangenius although the results are similar) outhink himself every week. I am sure he has his own idea of strategery, but how freakin hard is it to see, gee we just ran for 3 straight plays and picked up 16 yards, why don't we run till the other team stops us? then use a Play action fake. The problem is that teams know we don't commit to running so they are waiting for passes and the fakes do no good.

This guy is an offensive moron. Worst offense in Frisco, bad offense in New Orleans and he is the guy we hire to lead us. The comment someone made about turning Rodgers into the second coming of David Carr is wayyy to accurate. I like Rodgers and think he has talent but either he is too stupid to audible and run plays that will work or too arrogant to listen to his coaching staff. Whatever the combination is it's a recipe for bad.

They need a true leader on the sidelines and MM ain't it. Sad part is I don't knwo that I liek any of the retreads either.
NecessaryRoughness
Sick of hearing the phrase "clean it up".

MM should be operating a car wash...at least the players would know what to do.

I agree and it's been happening for almost a decade.

No accountability....You do stupid things and get away with it!!

Cero discipline !
GBP4EVER
I agree the bum (#24) does not deserve and never has deserved a spot on ANY NFL roster. He is a moron that either gets burnt or committs PI.

Al Harris should get benched. You figure the coaching staff would realize he is done when they are throwing at him all the time. Harris is past his prime and gives up way more plays then he makes.

Jas, good post, something I'd like to point out in the TB game. These TB defensive Lineman arent exactly Jared Allen. Most of these guys are run of the mill average players having career days agaisnt our OL. Its very telling. Its just terrible week after week watching our ice skating offensive line get beat up by run of the mill players.

Excuses.

Picking player after player from other teams practice squad. Players coming over to the sideline after another dumb penalty and not fearing standing by the Head coach.

6. McCarthy throwing a challenge flag on a play when there's NO CHANCE of the play being overturned only because he has some vague hope that maybe, just maybe, he can make the bad play go away.
Lare
6. McCarthy being the only person from the organization being accountable to the fans and the media. One thing about Harlan and Wolf, they were in front of the cameras and answering their phones through good and bad. When's the last time we saw or heard from Thompson and Murphy after a bad game?

7. Players prancing around, pumping their chests and bringing attention to themselves every time they make a good play. You want to celebrate, fine, but do it with the teammates that helped you succeed.

8. Long hair on grown men. Call me an old fogey or whatever, but it seems like half our players have hair longer than the friggin cheerleaders.

9. The same mistakes every week.

10. The same penalties every week.

Well Lare, when they get old like us their mothers will just haul out the old pictures to remind them how ridiculous they looked. Beside that, since some of them are currently playing like cheerleaders its probably apropo.

11. 1st and none.
12. Rushing everyone- getting no one.
13. Starting at the 5 yard line and the opposing team starting at their 40 or better.
14. last on my list- not addressing obvious holes in positions with a little FA activity.

ATLPACK99
Defensive backs colliding with one another while the opposing teams player runs for a TD.

That ridiculous crossing LB blitz that fools nobody.

3 fullbacks but yet NO serviceable offensive tackles.

Last but not least, watching our piss-poor GM fail to address areas of concern and also misjudging the mediocre talent on this team. Why do we as fans realize our shortcomings but the GM doesn't?
diesel
Packer players smiling and joshing with opponent after the game that we just got beat. Rodgers especially.
Blue
Dallas embarrassing us at home.

Tony Romo's stupid smile after every play.

11 fricking sacks.

McCarthy asking for Witten's autograph.

Sorry, my bad, next weeks post.

Ha opposing Qb's gotta get real excited whenever they see Bush on the field. It reminds me of the movie The Waterboy when they are going for the onside kick and the kicker sees the guy that looks terrified and he says "Yeah theres my B**ch"

Just as bad as 24, 73. Get rid of them both.

I am sick of seeing my phone blow up with voicemails and text messages regarding last Sundays game. A truly embarassing time to be living in Tampa. This was their Super Bowl, and I will hear about it until the next time we see them on the field. I am still truly disgusted.

Hey, maybe you and I care more about winning than these players, plus remember they are going to have a check waiting at home for thousands and thousands of dollars whether they win or lose. They're just saying HI to old college friends and team mates.

I WAS looking forward to getting the Boys playing in GB for a change instead of Dallas like usual, but after seeing the way the Packers have played lately, I see NO CHNACE of them beating the Cowboys. Thus, I will have to take alot of crap from my fairweather Cowboy friends.
