I want him. I'm sick of these backs that lose yards and can't break a tackle, I want a bruiser like Gerhart who is almost always going to get at least a couple positive yards. Kids a stud and we can get him in the middle rounds.

I love watching him play, but I have a hard time translating him to the pros. Thats not a bad thing, hes just one of those guys who I can see being successful and I can also see him being just another guy.

I love CJ Spiller, hes exactly what we need if a stud OL isnt there.

Toby is also a highly thought of basball player and may go that route. He is a OF/P and many scouts think he is a 1st rounder.

Toby has improved every year at Stanford. He did that also at Norco H.S. in Norco California where his dad was the coach. He is a smart kid who reminds me a bit of former Stanford RB Tommy Vardell (with more speed).

I like Gerhart a lot. He looks like a tough kid, but would he really improve our running game? He will give us those 3-4 yards every play, but I think what we need out of the backfield is a homerun threat. We need a guy that can take it to the house on any play. I guy I would love to see on this team is the RB on Tennessee Chris Johnson ( no this is not speculation that we will get him ) I just love the speed and elusiveness that he brings to the offense and we need a guy like that. Gerhart would be a nice #2 option perhaps, but I think we need a guy with a bit more game-breaking ability in him such as the a fore mentioned CJ Spiller. Makes me laugh to think we would then have 3 first round picks on the team with the first names A.J, B.J, and C.J. Too good to be true.

Very, very funny.

Too much like Brian Leonard IMO and unfortunately that type of RB/FB/HBack isn't really that useful anymore. The Mike Alstott days are gone. Speed is the name of the game now.

I always think it's funny whenever there is a pretty decent "white" RB or WR they get compared to other "white" players. Why is Gerhardt compared to Vardell and Brian Leonard. Vardell was long ago and Leonard is no bruiser. I'm not saying he's like Brandon Jacobs, but if your calling Gerhardt a bruising RB, that might be a place to start. I think it's a bias alot of people can't get past.

Excuse me? My comparison has absolutely nothing to do with his race. He is VERY similar to Brian Leonard and not very similar to Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs has about 3" and about 30 lbs on Gerhardt. Jacobs is a true bruiser who uses his size to move the pile. Just because Gerhardt will take on contact does not make him a bruiser. I would classify him as one of those "jack of all trades, master of none" players. If you want me to compare him to an african american player, then I would say he's most similar to Tim Hightower (Richmond) who now plays for the Cardinals. I don't think he's as quick or fast as Hightower though, but they have the same build and run with the same style.

I wasn't saying you specifically, I'm just saying in general whenever there is a white RB or WR they always get compared to another white player. Settle down, I'm not singling you out!

He's big and strong enough to break tackles in college, but I don't see him being as successful at that in the NFL, where everyone is bigger, stronger, and faster, and can actually tackle. I think he'll be like a 6th or 7th round pick.

Because I remember Vardell (who also played for Stanford) and they have simular running styles. He is a Vardell clone (imo) and the simple fact is they both played for Stanford. If Toby ran a 4.3 I would say he reminds me of faster Natrone Means, but he is a high 4.5 low 4.6 guy and, according to his HC Jim Harbaugh, is more of a "fullback type". (sounds like "Touchdown Tommy" to me)

That's cool. A lot of times that is the case, but that was the strongest comparison I could think of. Wasn't sure what you were implying. No harm done.

Using the very non-scientific, non-thorough analysis brought forth from watching parts of one game live, highlights on ESPN and Youtube, this guy looks like a legit starting NFL HB. He just does.
Can't explain it other then my immediate reaction to Toby Gerhart was: that guy's going to be a quality NFL HB. Don't know how good, don't know for how long, but besides size and strength, he's got "it" whatever "it" is.

As for speed, Steve Slaton ran a 4.5 40 in the combine. Some people just have game speed. He looks plenty fast to me, looks like he has very good vision, and he also looks like he'll be available in the third round or lower.

ok... time to watch the best qb/rb tandem in ALL of college football 2009... if you don't want either of these guys on your team then ur crazy... I'll toot my own horn and say I wanted Gerhart 1st... go ahead and search... Luck though, might have the better NFL career and my frontrunner for 1st overall pick whenever he comes out. Gerhart reminds ME of Riggins.

Plays like that safety that Detroilet got make me think the Pack needs to do something. They have nobody that can pull of the tough yards in crunch time.

BTW LTFF, if dude could be a Hightower, I would be ecstatic.

Patty is back! Love it!

In her first draft report (on the front page) this year, she says the Packers were scouting Gerhart at his Bowl Game.

Seeing him play, he just looks like a TT guy right off the bat. Sort a Jordy Nelson/Al Harris/AJ Hawk/Clay Matthews/Ryan Pickett type player. Solid work ethic, loves football guy. Willing to put in the extra effort & hard work.

I could see someone like the Bears taking him in round two, (oh yeah, those goofs traded away that pick, too, for Gaines Adams, too bad Bears fans laugh.gif ) so, he may not be there where TT would like to get him.

I like Gerhart, and think he will be a decent, if unspectacular, pro RB. Luck, on the other hand, is a phenomenal prospect. Agreed that if he continues to develop, he is a strong candidate for 1st overall pick when he comes out.
