Keep in mind, I don't make these kinds of statements lightly. In fact, I very rarely blame coaches when a team loses because, as a player, I never wanted to dole out too much credit to coaches when we won. I firmly believe pro football is ultimately a players game.

But there are instances when a coaching staff does not do a good job of putting its team in a position to win, and Sunday was one of them. How could the Packers not come up with a decent strategy during the week for the Vikings' pass rush and kickoff return game? I like Mike McCarthy and those on his staff. I've worked with many of them during my time in the league, but they were exposed in a major way Sunday.

Wow. I don't know if i agree with everything he says, but I give him credit for going all in and taking a position. Man doesn't pull many punches. Interesting find - thank you!

Wow, devastating article for the Packers coaches. So, MM was "incredulous" when Slocum allowed Crosby to kick deep to Harvin? Why wasn't Slocum told NOT to kick deep to Harvin? Why wasn't Slocum football savvy enough to know he shouldn't do this? Why aren't the Packers making simple adjustments?

It seems that MM is showing that 2007 was a fluke, and that he really is not ready for prime time.

Yet that momentum was taken back when Harvin took the next kickoff, this time a deep one, into Packers territory, and the Vikings scored again. McCarthy was incredulous and went up to special teams coach Shawn Slocum for an explanation.

And I, in turn, am incredulous that McCarthy was incredulous.

Who the heck is in charge of that team, for god's sake? ohmy.gif

I read that Crosby knew well that he was supposed to pooch it but that he slipped a bit on the turf and that's why he launched that weak kick.

Gulp!

Some posters have been saying the coaching staff is one of the main problems, the rest haven't been convinced yet.

For me, the doubts started creeping in last year. They continued to grow as this year progressed and after Sunday I felt there was little hope.

Sure they're gonna beat the weaker teams, but the coaches can't seem to get this team in position to make plays against the better opponents.

I hope they do not make Havner become ordinary like they seem to have done with other players on this team.

Im not sure what to believe about this team anymore. I really thought we had above average talent. I was pissed when we didn't let Favre back but was really happy when I realized the great potential with Rodgers.

It does seem to me that we have a few obvious issues. Game planning, discipline,(coaching) Rodgers worried about making mistakes and being too tenative. Does it seem like he is always looking downfield and not finding anyone open? He needs to squezze the ball in there sometimes.
I just can't belive that there aren't more opportunities to make throws.

Obviously OL issues too.

I just believe we are a better team then we have shown. Lack of leadership and coaching are root causes for our dissapointing start. (4-3 isn't that bad but I guess we all expected more).

MM Must go. TT, not as sure about him as I thought I was.

Anyone think that in 2007 Favre was the leader and that really made a difference?

One of the biggest things that drives me nuts is all of the special teams penalties. I can understand some penalties. Agressive teams commit penalties. There isn't a correlation between penalties and success. Some of the best teams are amongst the most penalized teams. What drives me nuts is the kinds of penalties this team consistently gets called against it. Mainly the dumb special teams penalties. It seems that EVERY SINGLE GAME we have a couple of penalties on kickoff or punt returns. The offense routinely finds itself starting at the 15 when it could have started at the 25 or 30. Its getting old pretty quick. To think that at one point Sean Payton really wanted the Green Bay job. I think Thompson hired the wrong coach. I think McCarthy is good with QBs and is a good OC but I just don't think he is cut out to be a HC at this point. The same things keep happening and they never get corrected.

I get tired of seeing other teams have impact plays on STs yet it seems most of our STs play falls in the negative category. Guys like Harvin and Cribbs have nice returns against us and we counter that with having already mediocre returns called back for holding or illegal blocks. It seems like over and over again players commit idiotic penalties on special teams. We can't continue to allow the other team to start at the 40 while we are always starting inside the 20. It seems like this is the routine week in and week out.

Highlighted some of the same feelings I'm having. I think most of us are seeing these things.

I don't know why he would bring up the late kick to Harvin. I'm sure it's true that MM was incredulous when he saw Crosby kick deep, but I'm also sure that's b/c MM was expecting the squib that was called for. I don't see how Crosby failing to execute the squib (due to slipping on the turf) is a coaching issue.

I can, however, buy into the criticism of the OL protecction scheme. I'm not an X's and O's fan, but if the comments on how the pass protection was designed are accurate, you seriously have to wonder about MM's thought process. Game planning to have Lang/Barbre on an island in pass protection vs MIN is nuts. Even if that wasn't the plan, but only appeared that way due to poor execution, it doesn't speak too highly of how this team is coached.

I don't know about MM but I'm not all that crazy about Campen. Why he wasn't fired when MM cleaned out most of the D coaches I'll never understand... dry.gif
