I believe it has something to do with saving energy. Could be wrong, though.

Also should note that the Mountain Time Zone doesn't observe DST.

Great idea for a thread. Call me crazy, but I think that daylight savings started to make better use of daylight. I questioned one of my sources on this matter and he indicated that Benjamin Franklin could have been the first to suggest this event. This is all speculation so please spare me the abuse until we get the facts straight. smile.gif

Yes crazy like s fox. Any way, I do remember it being a matter of more farming time during crop harvesting time. Also I've heard about saving energy during WWII. I

Yes, Ive always heard that too. It was so the farmers could have more daylight to harvest their crops back when we still had farmers. unsure.gif

My long gone Grandma, from the UP used to refer to it as "slow time????a" Summer was, of course, "fast time..."

Yup, heading back to the U.P. for Thanksgiving. Not to be too graphic, but the slow times were when most conceptions took place ohmy.gif thus the summer months being the leading season for births. As women before air conditioning realized that July wasn't the best time to be pregnant it was rescheduled for autumn more or less. This from my UP wife. A little bit nervous for the game I guess tongue.gif

I wish they would just move the clock 30 minutes and then never touch it again.

I'm not a big fan of it as I have to get to the treestand an hour earlier in the morning and lose an hour of hunting in the evening.

Across the street from me is a 1400 acre park. They have brought in sharpshooters to cull the deer population and people are going ape sh** over it. Some weirdo dumped a bucket of deer blood on him in protest.

Im on both sides of this debate because something needs to be done about it because of all the car accidents and winter is coming around and food will be scarce but on the other hand if we werent putting up houses and office buildings on 3 sides of the park the deer would have a place to live.

The good thing is that all the meat is going to be donated to area food shelters.

Ive never hunted. My father in law is a HUGE deer hunter though and makes some pretty good deer jerkey and venison soup.

There is something similar going on in a neighboring city to where I live. They opted to let bow-hunters shoot the deer vs. sharpshooters due to the cost to hire them. You need to qualify by passing a written hunters' safety test and take an archery proficeincy test by proving you can put 5 out of 6 arrows into a 6" circle at 20 yards. They do this to prevent hacks from participating in the hunt and wounding deer in the neighborhood by taking unethical shots. The hunters that take a deer are encouraged to donate it to the food shelter program, although they are welcome to keep it themselves.

I usually donate a deer or two each year to the food shelter program. I often wondered if I could write off the thousands of dollars that I have spent on hunting equipment on my taxes since I donate the venison? wink.gif

Hell yes you could!

As a business owner Im always finding different things to write off and thats a contribution. I believe you can amend 3 years previous of tax returns. I would be checking into it if I was you.

If it wasn't for Daylight Savings Time, we'd be a few short minutes away from kickoff. Why did it have to be this weekend?!?!

Actually, one of the places I hunt is on Newton Valley Rd. just outside of Romance. I have taken a couple nice bucks there and several turkeys. The Romance tavern is a Wisconsin monument!
