Full Version: Gotta Love William Henderson

This is a take off on the LeRoy Butler thread.
Big Willy is one of my favorite players from the time my son went to the William Henderson/Vonnie Holiday football camp when he was in 8th grade.

Anyway, here is what he had to say on the Scott VanPelt Show today.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/player?id=4606065

In a nutshell, he professes his love for the Packers and for Brett and goes on to say that he will loudly boo #4 when he comes out of the tunnel. And he asked that all Packer fans come out and do the same. His reasoning besides his personal love of the Green and Gold is that the Packers really need the twelvth man to show up. Give your support to ARod, Jennings, Driver, Kampan, etc.

Didn't Hendo threaten to sign with the Vikings?

atta boy, Hendo. he was always one of my favorite Packers as well. great as a blocker and he always, ALWAYS, jumped over the first guy who tried to tackle him!

whether you want to boo Favre or not, i think booing could really help us. Favre is an emotional guy. i'm sure he'll try and keep it compartmentalized, but i think (hope?) Lambeau might be able to rattle him, or at least distract him.

edit: laugh.gif i forgot about that. but there is, of course, a huge difference in posturing during contract negotiations (Hendo) and plotting (and then actually doing after denying repeatedly) for revenge for 2 years.

No. Minne tried to sign him after we let him go but he told them no.

He did not. Chilly offered and Will declined.

It kills me when people use that argument. So and So went there... IMO there have been few if any situations like this one. And it doesnt matter who's side you take it is pretty much unprescedented. Not the fact a 1st ballot HOF'er finishes a career with another team but the extend of, ill be nice here, untruths and deception to finally get a shot at your former team.

I will booooo loudly. And, yes I will be there when he is retired and cheer wildly cuz #4 is an awesome talent and my favorit Packer player thru 2007.

He was also on ESPN Football Today this afternoon with Jeremy Green. Great interview and a great Packer! You can listen to the podcast here:

Someone FINALLY gets "IT" as a fan. this is what the former players are talking about, it's called separation, there is a time and place for each, booing and cheering.....this just happens to be the time to boo

When WHN retires...again....for good and the Packers retire his number, he comes to the ceremony then we all cheer and welcome him home, because then he becomes a PACKER AGAIN

TILL THEN HE IS A VIQUEEN AND THAT REQUIRES BOOING

Wouldn' this be a good weekend to honor the "96 SB team.....

ALL those ex-teammates leading boo's...OUCH THAT WOULD HURT

Put me in the William Henderson fan club, too. Great player, seems like a great guy.

These guys all say they still love Favre and they should. Because of his antics, their stock has risen quite a bit. It's like...'Favre turned out to be kind of a tool, but wasn't Henderson great, and Butler, and the Gravedigger? And how about all those great players from the 60s? Bart Starr would never have acted this way'.

People want to remember their heros and since one hero has fallen, the others move to the front. It's nice to see other players from the era get celebrated too. It wasn't all just Brett and Reggie.

Great post! Haven't really thought much about that.
