The Entertainment of Pro Sports at High Level Coming to Lambeau Nov 1
It has been two long years almost since my last trip to Lambeau Field. I wish I had the Time and Money to be there this Sunday. The NFL is the highest rating of Sports entertainment in America and this weekend will be no Exception. Not only is there a battle of two teams for the Division. The Emotions of this Rivalry is marked by characteristics of Revenge and Love and Hatred. The Words of Traitor, True Fan are being lobbied about like ping pong balls.
Make no Mistake this is a Game, but the Storylines cannot be more dramatic and filled with intrigue of a lasting episode of Peyton Place or Dallas. The Main Characters being Favre, Mike McCarthy, Ted Thompson, The Fans, and the Media. Lambeau will be a three ring circus more so then ever before. There have been spoken words of Frozen Tundra, Titletown, and Ice Bowl along with names of reverence from Lambeau, Lombardi, Starr, Hornung, Taylor, Davis, Nitschke, Gregg, Wood, Hutson, Canadeo, White, Favre.
The Fans of this era are now faced with a showdown with one of the more loved players in Packer Lore, Brett Favre. There are articles of to Cheer or boo, is he a traitor, did TT run him out and so on and so forth. There are innuendos that Fans need to let it go, that they need to remember what Favre has done for them. These are all things that will indulge even the slightest of NFL fans to the TV at 4:00 PM est. on Sunday November 1, 2009.
Arguments can be made to justify one side of this or another, and reasonably so, the arguments are true in nature on whether you boo or whether you cheer and show respect. Mr, Howard on MSJ supports the argument to cheer and Mr Butler on MSJ demonstrates the other side of why to boo. This clearly supports the Divide in Packer nation for Sunday. And is demonstrated in current Polls on Jsoline to show 46 % prefer to boo, 34 % prefer to Cheer, with a 20 % of do Nothing.
The Forums and Boards are hot this week discussing on how the return of a hero, a legend a humble man we all grew to love from Mississippi came to Green bay and won our hearts and the Lombardi Trophy for a Team that had endured so many Losing Years. The Understanding in the Media is that this showdown is much more than two teams fighting for first place in the division, even though at the end of the day, this is one game of 16 in a season but has much more dramatic overtones than any other game this year or probably of some of this team's recent history.
So how will it be on Sunday Afternoon at Lambeau? Will there be civility with the fans, will there be an understanding that there are difference in opinions. Also will there be an understanding that the feelings are still strong for the team that most fans root for, not just when there winning, but through thick and thin. The type of Fans that sell out games that most animals would bury themselves somewhere to get warm and not want to be outside if they had a choice.
It is that type of commitment and zeal from the fans, and other times when the stadium has sold out, that separates the Packer fans from all others. I am unsure if you can ever find a fan base with more conviction then the Packer fans that has sold out since 1960.
It is that drive and conviction of Packer fans that feel a sense of inclusion with their team and how it is demonstrated with their loyalty and demeanor of their passion towards their team and its rivalries. It is with this that is taking a toll, on the current fan base and its loyal team followers. We are in a turmoil of times to say the least, A fan base that represents the class of the NFL.
Sunday will allow for us to make a decision of how we shall welcome our fallen hero. I use this terminology in my own way, in that I would have never dreamed of seeing Favre in another jersey. I never would have even thought that in my wildest dreams he would be on the visitor side in Lambeau and in addition to have him as a Viking. There are times Sunday, that I am sure it will be surreal for not only Favre but many fans due to their connections we have with our team.
It is that connection and that understanding of the team I have rooted for, since I was in diapers is why I cannot cheer for Brett. I feel after all these years that I understand that this game is part mental. Packers winning this game is more important for their chances to move forward as a team and get this behind them. That is why I understand that by cheering for Brett when he enters the stadium or is introduced would do nothing more then give him a mental advantage of the team I have cheered for so long to win.
Once Again make no mistake this is still a game, and many of us feel joy when this team does good and many of us feel like crap when they do bad. We have one week of a loss to the Vikings to deal with that bad feeling along with their fans rubbing our former leader's abilities and the win in our faces. The Packers need this game just as bad; they need to prove some things to their selves and their fans. We as fans need to prove to the Packers that we support them 100 %.
JMO……….I am going to Disney World….
