Mock 2.0

(Packers Picking Mid/Late)

Round 1:

Chad Jones- S- LSU: The highly athletic Safety is an athletic ball hawk who is not afraid to come up a hit someone. He also returns punts and kicks as a bonus.

Round 2:

Akwasi Owusu-Ansah- CB- Indiana (PA): This kid may end up in round 1 after it is all said an done. He has it all, size, speed and playmaking ability. He could team with Tramon Williams as the Packers CB duo of the future.

Round 3:

Joe McKnight- RB- USC: With the lack of success Reggie Bush has had it will hurt McKnight. He is not as fast as Bush was coming out, but he is showing better patience and willingness to run between the tackles. Also an electric returnman and receiver out the backfield.

Round 4:

Kyle Calloway- OT- Iowa: A big, strong tackle that is better suited for the right side with T.J. Lang showing promise on the left side. Iowa teaches great fundamentals and this kid has the work ethic the Packers would love.

Round 5:

Eric Decker- WR- Minnesota: He reminds me of Austin Collie. Not a burner, but has a great feel of the position to go along with great hands and his a smooth route runner.

Round 6:

LeGarrette Blount- RB- Oregon: Everyone knows about the Boise St. incident, but this kid has all kinds of ability and will slip because of "off the field" issues. He is not your "Packers person" (a term I hate to use and is over used) but I feel a football team should not be all "goodie two shoes" and need that player with a mean streak. Blount is a complete back that has no problem running over, through or by someone on his way to the endzone.

Round 7:

Isiah "Juice" Williams- QB- Illinois: Juice is slipping because he has not produced like many had thought he would this year. He was a 4 year starter at Illinois and has a very strong arm, excellent size but he needs to improve on his accuracy. He is also a threat to run as well and could be used as a "Wild Pack" quarterback.

Recap of my Mock 1.0

Round 1: (mid/late round ): Joe McKnight- RB- USC

Round 2: Ciron Black- OT- LSU

Round 3: Akwasi Owusu-Ansah- CB- Indiana (PA)

Round 4: Myron Rolle- S- FSU

Round 5: Davis Gettis- WR- Baylor:

Round 6: Ryan Perrilloux- QB- Jacksonville St.

Round 7: Allen Bradford- RB- USC

No left tackle in the first three rounds ? Have you anointed Lang as LT of the future (I wouldn't have said it was his best spot on the line) ?

If we are picking on the degree of need, then I would say, in order, LT, FS, DE, CB, (This assumers Harrell never reaches his potential). Other positions like RB are for lower-end picks.

I'm guessing you blame the pedestrian running game on the RB, where I place the blame more on the O Line and the scheme.

Decker will play baseball as a pro IMO, great prospect. Juice Williams??? Please no

Joe,

I really like the first two picks and would be very happy with both Jones and Ansah. They would both add some nice ability and much needed youth to our secondary. The rest however is suspect imo and I would want no part with any of them except Calloway.
I'd much rather have a RB like Anthony Dixon than either McKnight or Blounte. There also needs to be more than one O lineman drafted. Decker would be a luxury pick, we need to add some depth to the d line as well. I've watched Juice Williams for 4 yrs. now and have never been impressed with him, there has got to be better developmental qb's out there than him.
The first two picks are excellent, but it falls off after that.

Interesting line of thought by you here. Kind of get your point. An impact player and guys with multiple skills (Pos&ST). I think it's pretty evident after Nelson; that it's too risky using starters as KR/PR. Brooks and Freeman did it in rookie years before becoming FT starters. Hey speaking of- How come you don't have Brooks in the picture with Sharpe/Driver/Jennings? Just curious.

Though too early to early to tell yet; LT might be our greatest need and might have to be where we go in RD 1. Of course if we pick mid to late round one the luck of that happening gets slimmer. Hopefully Lang works out. Seems to have the intangibles so far; his biggest test will be the Vikes; unless Cliffton gets back in.

Actually, when the underclassmen end up declaring this could end up being one of the best years for OT in awhile. It might not exactly be top heavy (legit top-10 prospects), but it sure looks like it could have quality and quantity. It should end up being a good year to need to draft an OT early. I think that there's a very good chance that the Packers could get an immediate starter in the 1st or 2nd round that represents an upgrade to the line.

I agree w/ Bluedog and 1265... OL needs more attention than you've given. I also think that you're a bit nuts for doing a mock this early, but I appreciate your efforts.

Free agency/offseason will dictate how many OL's get drafted, but I could easily see 2 and possible 3 Tackles drafted. Lang will be a better OG than LT (similar to Colledge), but we'll find out before January if I'm wrong. The surprising lack of faith in Giacomini doesn't bode well for his future, and Cliffy is running on fumes... so at least 2 OT's need to be obtained.

Definitely agree that D needs addressing, specifically FS and CB. I think a servicable "space eater" DE can be found later rounds. So MY priority/wish list would be, by position:
OT/FS - 1st, FS/OT-2nd, CB-3rd, RB-4th, OT-5th, DE-6th, and then a flyer on QB, WR or OT.

Once again, thanks for the efforts and diversion from 24/7 Favre.
