Not looking too good. Jordy is still hurt, Swain done for the year and Finley may miss next week.

How will this effect the WR core? Another injury and the Packers will be scrambling.

Nelson cannot come back soon enough...

The first thing to consider would be a street free agent to fill the roster spot.

Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, Joey Galloway, Will Franklin, Nate Jackson, Ashley Lelie, Dane Looker and Derek Stanley are some of the free agents who could be brought in.

Also, there's a number of practice squad guys out there that might be worth a look-see as well. Paul Hubbard, Jesse Holley, Dexter Jackson, Onrea Jones, Isaiah Stanback and our own Jake Allen top that list IMO.

I think that they'll promote Jake Allen since he's got two years of experience in the offense and should likely take the least amount of time to get up to speed. Outside of him I like Galloway, Williams and Jones to come in as veterans and be able to contribute relatively soon. Dexter Jackson also is an intriguing option purely because of his kick returning potential and his deep speed. I think that he's the fastest player on my list and he probably has the most upside of them all as well.
Ted Thompson's Doughnut
Koren Robinson has to be a possibility too. He knows the system, the team and the playbook. He could also return kicks, taking the place of Jackson. Everyone knows he's a Ted Thompson favorite, so it makes a lot of sense.

He'd probably be a better bet than Jones, Williams and Galloway, who don't know the system at all.

I believe Robinson is playing in the UFL too (New York?), so he shoud be in decent shape.

Good thing we are not grasping at straws

It will be Jake Allen, I bet. It isn't season ending for Nelson. We have Driven Jennings and Jones, lets get a grip.

I blame TT for failing to ensure that the Packers had enough WRs.

I realize that we're talking about a 5th WR, but why can't they go out and get the best player available to fill the spot? They can go one of two ways. . . a veteran player who is a stop-gap and will fill the role for the rest of this season and then likely be gone, or with a young player who likely won't contribute as much immediately, but still has upside and should be brought back next year to compete and see if they have an NFL future.

I personally think that they should focus on the latter and bring in a guy that they think can contribute a little now, while possibly being a long-term option as well. From my perspective, it would be best to steal a guy off of another team's practice squad to do that. Lots of guys end up on a practice squad for awhile and end up developing into decent players down the road. Dexter Jackson is an intriguing guy because of his speed and special teams abilities. Paul Hubbard, Jake Allen and Jesse Holley all have good size but aren't exactly burners. Any of them would make a fine 5th WR for the rest of this season IMO.

Like I said, I think that they'll promote Jake Allen. . . but I figured I'd look at some of the other possibilities that are out there. However they decide to go, I'm not expecting much from our 5th WR so I'll be happy with however he contributes and whatever role he fills.

I enjoyed it smile.gif

As others have said, it should be Allen. He's familiar with the system, and has made the occasional play in the last couple of preseasons.

I think that the problem is Nelson injury and that they would need a player who could step into the offense this Sunday if needed. If it was just the 5th WR spot, maybe then you could take a special teams ace or more of a development guy but now you need someone who can function soon. This is why I think it's probably Allen.
