Full Version: Rodgers' QB sneak

I'd love to know why there was no penalty for the Brownie for ripping Rodgers' helmet off during that 4th down play. Aaron was really hot about it too. If that would've happened to Brady or Peyton Manning I have feeling flags would fly. Normally the refs protect QBs to a ridiculous extent but not in that instance. dry.gif

Hasn't Rodgers taken enough shots this season? What a stupid play call from MM. Run it wit the RB/FB or throw it. Don't put Rodgers in harms way.

I can't wait until Rodgers establishes himself as one of the greats, so we can start getting the calls that Brady and Manning get. He's not there yet, unfortunately.

Also, it looked like he got that first down.

I don't even care about the flags, the story should be that he made the first down! Rodgers' momentum carried him past the marker before he got shoved back.

Uh huh. Sure.

QB sneak is a gimme in the NFL. I honestly don't think I've seen one fail in a long time. For any team. Not where inches are concerned.

Handing it off in the backfield or taking the chance on a pass, well truth be told THAT is probably the stupid move.

That said, what a horrifying commentary on our interior line that we couldn't sneak for 8 inches of turf.

Dunno. It looked like an almost exact spot to me.

Rodgers really did get the turf he needed on that play -- the official who made the call screwed up badly and there wasn't enough evidence to re-spot the ball because you can't see the ball specifically in the pile, but if you watch where the ball must have been on the replay he obviously got the ground he needed on his second effort.

The TV guys (who you have to assume don't give a rip) thought he had it, too. Plain and simple, the official who spotted the ball couldn't see it.

IMO the QB sneak at that point in the game was stupid. I would have rather taken a chance some other way. That's just me.

I agreed with the call. We're not so good at the short yardage with the RBs. Aaron's track record on QB sneaks is quite good.

Guess we disagree on this one.

IMO he makes it more times than not. Better than having Grant stopped in the backfield for a loss. Spot wasn't great and I am surprised there was no flag as his helmet was pulled off long after the play was over.

He didn't get a call because he doesn't get up every time and lobby the Refs and I for one am glad he doesn't. I'm getting real tired of everytime Manning or Brady end up on their butts they whine to the refs looking for a flag. If the officials feel it deserves a flag they'll throw it. Otherwise go back to the huddle and call the next play.

The officials need "conclusive evidence" to overturn a call. They can't assume where the ball would have been based on where Rodgers was. In no video angle was there conclusive evidence showing that the ball advanced further than where they spotted it. I really do think he got the 1st down but there was just no proof.
