I'm gonna play the role of the gulliable trade-happy fan here: Perhaps they're bringing these guys in as a bargaining chip in the negotiations for Jackson. If the Rams are asking too much, the Packers might counter by saying they'll just go with Green or Rhodes and hopefully pressure the Rams into bringing down their asking price.

I don't really believe that, but it's fun to dream.

as pointed out in the Jackson thread due to the cap hit the Jackson trade is just a dream that can not happen in the real world. Maybe in Madden though. laugh.gif

Actually, from the one guy that actually cracked all the numbers and showed his work, the cap hit didn't seem to be significant. The signing bonus will hit them all at once, but they get to take off his salary for the rest of the year. It ended in a net of only a couple million.

Regardless, I agree with you - I don't see it happening. But I'm gonna hold out hope anyway, because there's not much else on this team to be especially hopeful about right now.

I thought you were pulling my leg, I looked down and there was a url.
Do they have anything left?
I would prefer TT trade for Jackson, signing both those guys would be cheaper than one Jacson. It's a bummer being so tight against the cap we cannot trade or sign anyone huh.gif

I know I whipped up some numbers on the jackson trade, but I am definately no pro at it or pretend to be.

It came out to be Rams would gain about $3mil in cap space not lose it.

I am under the influence of BEER so, I am not going to run them again. blink.gif

At least Green can catch the ball and doesn't fall down when someone farts like Grant.
Big Dave
Is this a joke?

THIS is how he decides to use FA?

Wrong. it is a 4-5 million cap hit. Even Adam Schein or Shaffer said so. right now his cap number is 7.4 million from rotoworld. (5.5 base and 1.9 PRSB) If traded today it becomes 11.4 his cap number (1.9 PRB and 9.5 the rest of his SB including this year) thats a extra 4 million. The numbers dont lie.

5.5 base played in 6 out of 17 weeks Rams pay 1.9 of it on the cap
11.4 was his SB. 1.9 was against the 08 cap a trade would put the other 9.5 against the cap now

that gives you 11.4
jbeebe1571
I've been told Green Bay has well over 16 million in cap room, not to mention the gain from trading Grant.
sinatra
2009: $5.5 million
2010: $6.105 million
2011: $7.2 million
2012-2013: $7 million (Voidable Years)
2014: Free Agent.
Signing Bonus: $11.395 million over 6 years (1.9 million a year)

Cap charge: $7.4 million (2009).

We're already into the second season, so 4 million of that should be removed from the $11.4 million bonus. That means $7.4 million would hit the Rams the instant they trade him.

Now his cap hit this year was $7.4 million, $5.5 million of which is from his salary - that's about $343,750 a game. He's already played 6 games, so $3.43 million remains and would be reduced off the cap hit. So after applying $7.5mm and removing $3.43mm, it means the Rams get hit with roughly $4 million more against the cap if they trade him.

All in good fun, but I don't feel gullible, just hopeful. Do you remember what a boost it was when we picked up Reggie White? I feel Jackson could be a real catalyst for this team. I know it's not likely to happen, but wow, just think of GB with a guy that dangerous behind Rodgers.

Your assuming that somebody would want Grant. The Rams may want more just to take Grant off our hands

They'd have to play somebody,
Gregg
I would also throw in Hawk to get Jackson if need be.

But man is this depressing or what?

Clearly they are looking for someone as a third down back because Grant is not fulfilling that function at all. How he dropped that pass yesterday....

Green was good at that, as was Rhodes. But both these guys have very little left in the tank. I mean Green had three injuries in like four years. By the end he was a shell of what he was in his glory years in GB.

I did not like TT signing Grant to that four million dollar deal. I thought it was stupid. I thought we would be better off calling his bluff and, if needed, signing someone else. And I consider that a mistake today. Not as bad as resigning Bubba Franks, but still a mistake.

Ahman is done. don't get me wrong, i loved the guy, but doesn't it feel like bringing him in is more of a favor than anything else?

Dominic Rhodes could actually be a useful player, as he can pass block, run, and catch. we need to start splitting up the carries a little more anyway.
phanatic1
I am ok with Rhodes. He can catch it and can run between the tackles and not go down on first contact. Ahman, as much as I would like to see him back, just not able to provide much now.

And, no way Steven Jackson is traded. None. No team is going to trade someone and take anywhere from a 4 to 7 million cap hit.

Probably true and if it did happen I doubt to the Pack but no one thought Jarred Allen would be traded either...

TT was in a no win situation with Grant. He just traded Favre. Could you see the S**t storm that would have rained down on him if he let Grant walk.

Let's see we were 13-3 and you jettisoned our starting QB and RB..... Grant had TT over a barrel on that one.

I agree again... No Way TT should have Buckled on this... GRANT only proved ONE YEAR.... I would have made a trade ....Done whatever cause GB owned his rights... Period...

That is it exactly .... The QB and now this is what we get from a Guy that wants to be the starting RB and get big Money... I saw the situation...If need be TT could trade away whatever he felt to make Grant and his agent know we dont play that way...

Sorry... I like Grant but we need diversity in the Running Game... I Like the fact he holds onto the ball and stuff... But he has limited vision and also no breakaway speed....it Would be nice to have a HIGH Quality RB for Rodgers.... We never gave that to Favre... and now we have Rodgers...

Do It TT.....

Holds on the ball, but cannot catch a ball. He cannot break the first tackle.
LuvdaPack36
Im not going to say Green and Rhodes are washed up. Obviously they were worked out for a reason.

I will say this though. Whether or not they are signed we need to re-vamp our RB's next year via drafts, trades and FA.

The Grant contract was a joke. If Ted did it just to appease the fans because the Favre situation then he needs to have his head checked. Jackson cant stay healthy and Wynn has proven he is certainly not the answer.

This would really help the oline. wink.gif

This is an ancient debate.

If you have a first rate RB do you need a first rate OL?

I don't think so. I agree that it would help him, but really good RB can make things out of miniscule creases that average RB cannot. And they can also see creases and cut back to them that average RB's cannot see. Which is why they are average.

So the idea that we have to improve our OL dramatically before we get a first rate RB does not really compute with me. And BTW why can't we do both?

TT spent the whole first day of the draft this year on defense. So this year, let us spend the first day on OL and RB.
