A portion of the JSonline article today talks about Bishop being on the block and he is okay with it.
What scares me the most is the comment that the Packers don't figure to be buyers...WHY THE HELL NOT!
This team is just a couple of pieces short of being really good. We need an OT and a RB upgrade as well as safety depth. If there is help in any of those positions, why in God's name would you not grab someone.
I have been a TT supporter, butI am tired of hearing how he is going to be more aggressive in aquiring players and then nothing happens. You have to use more than the draft to build teams! I know I am preaching to the choir, but it ticks me off. By the time we fix our fricken OL our DL and DB's will be crap. Now is the time!
Time for someone to have a tall cool one and relax. True, the Packers could really use a LT. So do most of the other teams in the NFL. It is a sellers market, and, basically, not one is selling. Now, would I like to see Joe Thomas in a Packers uniform? Oh my definitely yes. However, irrespective of the internet rumors, it doesn't seem likely that the Browns will trade him before Tuesday. Why should they? Even a dysfunctional franchise like the Browns is not toally crazy. Now, would I like to see the Packers land Stephen Jackson? Absolutely. The question is, are the Rams offering him for trade? Sure, the Packers can ask, but, again, why should they trade him? To get more draft picks? To get a player that won't help them win a game this year?
I am also a TT backer, and I am also annoyed that he is not more active in FA. However, that typed, I also believe that, for the most part, players in FA are either terribly overpriced/overrated, or demand too much for their talents, even at the second level (which is where TT does his shopping). So, I'll simply ask, which players would you have bid on in FA? Realizing that GB would have to pay a premium to get premium players, because of factors totally outside of TT's control?
I'm buying more and more into the argument that it is coaching, and not players who are the problem. Perhaps it is time for MM and staff to take a walk, and have the Packers bring in a superstar coach. There are several available, and, the way things are going with the Titans, could the unthinkable happen? Could Jeff Fisher really be let go? I'd welcome some of the coaches with open arms: Cowher, Fisher (if available), maybe Gruden or Shanahan- but there would be one major objection. If any of these guys wanted to be GM/coach, keep looking. That is simply a recipe for overextension and disaster. Check out how Holmgren did when he got his wish in Seattle- they're still recovering from his ineptness as GM.
