I just had some comments and a couple of questions about the defense and scheme vs the Lions yesterday, for people who know more about defensive schemes.

I really think having Bigby back is huge for our secondary. It seems that he really knows our system and works well with it. I love watching Clay. He is all over the place all the time!

What kind of scheme did we use yesterday? I saw Kampman with his hand on the ground alot more yesterday. Which seemed like he was getting to the QB and creating alot of pressure. So were we playing a hybrid 4-3, 3-4? Were they letting him put his hand down on 3-4? I was just confused on what was actually happening. It really seemed we blitzed alot more, or did we just make appropriate changes?

Thanks!

I'm kinda disappointed we didn't see much of Hawk. Against a team like the Lions I think he should've played a little more.

Matthews is a stud.

AK HAS to play like a DE in this scheme.

Barnett also stepped up i thought. I ve heard that Kampman cannot play a DE in a 3-4 cause of his size, is that true?

No, they didn't play 4-3 at all. When Kampman had his hand down, there were only two D linemen in the game- Jolly and Jenkins. So either they had their base 3-4 defense, or they used Kampman as essentially a DE in the 3-4 at times.

They did blitz more, it was the right team to try more pressure against.

I don't know why AK doesn't just get on all fours more often as a LB... so what if that clues the offense in on that he'll be blitzing, it'll only take one or two plays where he gets on all fours, and then drops into coverage to keep the offense on their toes.

Well if AK was playing DE in a 3-4, he played very well. Use him on the line then have, Hawk, Clay, Barnett, Bishop play LB.

Well, that wouldn't work in the base defense. Teams would run right over them. But you can use him more often as a down DE in pssing situations. And I'm sure we'll see more of that. Kmapman/Jolly/Jenkins down. Barnett, Matthews, and another LB, and then 5 DBs. That could become a fairly common nickel packgae in the future.
