Full Version: Arrigo Mock 1.0

Arrigo
OK, it is just about half way through the college football season and I decided to do my first mock draft.

I don't try to guess about who is resigned, traded or cut. I do a straight mock.

I also will try to update it weekly.

Here is my mock 1.0

Round 1: (mid/late round )

Joe McKnight- RB- USC: offensive tackle is a need, but the Packers need a running back that be an explosive offensive player via the ground, air or returner and McKnight can do all of that.

Round 2:

Ciron Black- OT- LSU: Black is a big, mean, nasty, mammoth OT would be a perfect anchor on either side of the line.

Round 3:

Akwasi Owusu-Ansah- CB- Indiana (PA): He's got the size (6'1, 205) and decent speed (4.50) that would fit in with the Packers and Dom Capers defense. Owusu-Ansah had 8 picks and 48 tackles coming into this season.

Round 4:

Myron Rolle- S- FSU: He decided to take the year off and use the Rhodes scholarship that he won to study at Oxford this year. He is a smart player that understands angles and is a sure tackler. Not fast or a ball hawk, but a steady performer and a high character guy.

Round 5:

Davis Gettis- WR- Baylor: A big (6'4, 205) WR that has decent speed (4.5) and knows how to use his big frame.

Round 6:

Ryan Perrilloux- QB- Jacksonville St.: The once highly touted prep star who had some off the field issues at LSU is the type of QB McCarthy could develop and use in specific packages. Perrilloux has a pretty live arm as well.

Round 7:

Allen Bradford- RB- USC: He is the big back that can pound the rock and run you over. he didn't carry as much as he would have liked at USC, but he was a team player and never complained. Not a "burner", but doesn't need to be. Also can play special teams.

Joe McKnight- RB- USC: offensive tackle is a need, but the Packers need a running back that be an explosive offensive player via the ground, air or returner and McKnight can do all of that.

If Thompson spends a first round pick on a NFL third down back, I'll lead the charge of torches and pitchforks to Lambeau Field. McKnight has been inconsistent behind a good OL at USC. I expected a lot more from McKnight at USC. He could develop into a decent player at the next level, but I wouldnt bet the farm on it, and certainly wouldnt spend a #1 on him.

OK, are you really suggesting that the Packers go for offense this year? I would agree if your draft were tilted toward the OL. Instead, you offer one OT, then draft two RB's, a QB (!) and a WR! Yes, you do give a nod to safety and CB, but, seriously, with the state the Packers OL is in- you draft a RB first?

By the bye, yes I did read your rationales for drafting these players. I just believe the Packers need to go OL first, then safety and CB (replacements for Bigby and either/or Woodson or Harris), then draft BPA.

I agree... I still prefer Jonathan Dwyer, Ryan Mathews, or even Toby Gerhart as options. If it is strictly a 3rd down back I like Noel Devine.

I do like Perrilloux but he does not seem like the type of player the Packers would take. I could see the Vikings going for him.

That is if Teddy is here next year!!

Your posts always generate discussion Joe. Thanks.

I take your mock to indicate needs and a rough idea of value rather than specific players. While we may agree LOT is top need it ooks like the top ones will be gone in top 15 picks. With as many truely bad teams out there the Pack won't be drafting that high. Therefore getting a RB or safety with the top pick makes sense. That's also why I think they need to get a veteran OT as they can't count on the rookies they would pick.

Black is a big space eater- more of a guard/ maybe RT from what I have gathered.
What do you think of Brown from USC, Joe?

I like the corner from Indiana PA.

Bradford look great last night, he made himself some money and moved up in the draft with that performance. No way that kid lasts until the 7th. Better revise that pick Joe.

I am a huge LSU homer so take what I say with that knowledge that I may not be totally impartial. I think McKnight is going to be a poor mand Reggie Bush. Having said that, I would not want Reggie Bush and would want McKnight even less. Throw in his fumbling issues, even less desireable to have McKnight.

Ciron has been a pretty big disappointment at LSU. He is a big guy and was considered to be one of the best LT's in college. He has played soft, quiet and without ANY mean streak. He has no leadership and just hasn't looked that great. he may become a great NFL player but not who I would take. Having said that we won't have a shot as he will probably get taken in the first round anyway.

Kind of thinking I'd switch those first 2 picks. Black won't make it into the mid-later part of Rd2. You'll need to take him in Rd 1, and if they did that, I'm all for it. If you want to take a RB in Rd 2, I'm OK with it. While there is no doubt we still need some help at DE, LB and S, I don't think any of those spots are imperative to be addressed in Rd1 or 2.

If you truly believe Kampy is not the answer and want to add help at LB, then trade him for a 2nd Rd pick plus another pick either in 2010 or 2011. Use that extra 2nd to grab an OLB type guy like maybe a guy like Sapp from Clemson or Selvie from S. Florida.

Use the later 2nd rounder on a RB. There should be some decent guys to choose from. I like the CB selection. Wouldn't mind a safety either. Maybe someone like Nate Allen though he'd probably need to be picked in Rd. Maybe a guy like Harry Coleman.

Can't say much about the 4-7th Rd picks because it really depends on what you take before that point. Not sure I'd mess with Periloux

I like your selection of Ansah. He seems to really have alot of ability and would be a good pick for our aging secondary.

Since most are talking OT's and RB's as picks, two of my favorite players are OT, Selvish Capers of West Virginia and RB, Anthony Dixon of Miss St. I think both would be nice picks for the Pack to address areas of concern.

I have doubts that Mc Knight is even a 1st round pick. As GM said 3rd round back
LambeauLeap
McKnight wears #4. We've had success with that number in the past.

(He wouldn't be allowed to wear it in the NFL, Green Bay or otherwise--I just found that to be interesting).
