ChuckWood's comments

The sincerity here is unheard of from NFL players:

"Oh yeah. Yeah. That's the only reason why I play. Well, I get paid well. Let me take that back. I do play to get paid, but I've made a lot of money in this league and at this point, really, the only thing left for me as a player is to win the championship."

I laugh, because I remember how controversial of a signing this was 3 years ago. He's the best defensive player we have now, by a longshot.

Gotta love a player like that!

Yes, I recall he once said after he had been in GB for a time that he was very hestitant about playing for the Packers. He wasn't all that keen on playing in the league's smallest TV market. But after he got here he found out what other players like Keith Jackson did that GB is one heck of great place to play football. smile.gif

Oh my. I remember how against signing Woodson I was. How he was old, injury prone, over the hill, washed up, a has been. Well, I'm living large now, eating those words. He is simply, to my mind, the best CB in the NFL. Period. End of discussion. I was wrong. TT was right. And the Packers (and I, as a result) benefited.

I'm just glad that the rest of the NFL agreed with that assessment also, otherwise I don't think that TT and company are even in the running to sign Woodson back then. I'm so happy that he's a member of this team, and I think that his success would have gotten TT to think about free agency in a different light. When you go after a few good players, they can help to dramatically improve your team. Focus on building through the draft, but don't be afraid to make a move or two to bring in a veteran guy (even at a high cost) to put your team over the top.

If they're not already, the Packers should hold up Woodson as a prime example of how playing for the Packers can reinvent your career -- he was good with the Raiders, but nothing like he is now.

I hear you and echo you. Hopefully, after this season, and re-signing Tauscher and Green, TT will finally realize that the draft is not the "be all and end all", but a strong bridge to a brighter future. The supports of that bridge, however, should come from solid veteran signings. What are "solid veteran signings"? Well, those that work. What are "bad veteran signings"? Those that don't work. Its so simple. Just sign the right guys, and ignore the rest! Mere child's play. blink.gif
