ok, so I watch this new video of Lori Nickles being interviewed by some other babe, answering questions like "who should the Packers play start LT? Is Aaron holding the ball too long?"

I find this insulting. I can't imagine either of these women, these 20-something journalism majors, has a clue, and I can't believe they would express a firm opinion on who's best among a rookie, an aging and injured pro, and a fill-in starter from another position. The coaches aren't even clear on that right now, but the blonds know. Heck, I've played in the Rose Bowl and I would have answered that question with "Well, that's what the coaches are trying to determine, and let me add I'm glad it's their job, not mine."

This thing in the US where everyone is the same and everyone's opinion is equally valid. . . it's inane. imho.

But then wadda I know, I hear some guy is getting the Heisman for attending a football game and an Oscar for watching a movie.

eX Oh
Why do you assume they are not fans as much as we?

Oops I stumbled onto the point. Ouch.

They are, at best, fans and journalists. They have not played the game, or coached, etc. Maybe they grew up in a football family? Their opinion is literally no more weighty than ours here on these forums.

(but really doesn't that describe any journalist? I personally have worked with a lot of sports writers. That's all any of them are, male or female. The more prominent ones are just more full of themselves and annoying.)

So why are they on?

Seriously. Do you have a link?

Lori is hAwt.

(am I doing the sexist pig thing right?)

http://www.jsonline.com/general/37714089.h...tid=44845662001 Enjoy!

Why not rant about Silverstein or Bedard? They're paid to give us information and insight into the Packers, same as Nickel. Because they're old(er) men are they more qualified than Lori, who's easier on the eyes? Have they played ball, or coached?

Sorry Mark, you're sexist. Take your Packers info where you can get it, and enjoy it just a little more coming from Nickel, IMHO.

I agree, everyone's opinion is not equally valid.

I feel that way about Jen Lada on Fox 6. She has no clue what she's talking about. The only reason she's working where she does is because she's young and has a nice set. Period.

The only way I think you could be being sexist is by singling out these two women. I think there are many men who are just as objectionable as you find these two. I would be interested to find out how many football reporters have played and at what level - male or female. This is one reason I really like Bob McGinn, he almost always uses interviews with scouts or coaches to form his opinion about players. He seems to understand his job very well.

TV is a different beast. An on-air personality doesn't need to have a clue about the ins & outs of how a play is run, their job is to present a 3 minute version of that days sporting events. I do not mean to demean this because it is a difficult thing to do but I don't think sports knowledge is as important as on-air skills. I am friends (through a friend of mine) with a few local TV personalities and some are very knowledgeable and some are not but IMO they are all good at their jobs of presenting the news.

I'll take our Charlotte Fox News anchors any day.

Oh...I fell for it. Dang it, I guess I'm sexist, too.

It maybe sexist if instead of you listening to them, you are wondering what it would be like if they were mud wrestling.
JimATX
No, that would be sexy. What mark initially described is sexist.

Interesting thread........
TV's goal to to get you to watch and in the case of football, they cater to a predominately male audience...with intent to expand that audience to include more women.

The "sexist" / business aspect of the whole thing is the need for the female announcers/reporters to bring more to the game than just knowledge i.e. they have to look good too to get the job. An ex football player with a broken nose and something interesting to say can get TV time based on his experience and percieved knowledge of the game - BUT it cant be missed that the guy with the broken nose actually played the game.

I've not seen the video clip or even know the persons mentioned, but in a general sense I can understand and share Mark's viewpoint that giving air time to a couple of bimbos exchanging ideas isnt necessarily good TV if in depth discussion of the game is the viewers goal - but its just the way it is. Looks count.

I venture to guess that a weekly (but toned down) "Girls Gone Wild Football Show" would get good ratings.
People want to classify that remark (or me) as sexist, they'd be half right - but I stand by the statement.
You think the bulk of viewers tuning in would be interested in the latest league news? I doubt it.
A fair share wouldn't mind if some mud wrestling took broke out. laugh.gif

Anyone wonder what Patty thinks of mark's comments?

Your all are sexist pigs, That is normal if you just looked at them for their football knowlege, than you would most likely be gay.

I guess no one wonders...

Several Things;

1. I am very proud of Mark because here on PC he is able to admit he a sexless pig.

2. I like the way that blond in the picture wears her microphone.

3. I wonder how those babes got their jobs?

4. I'm happy I'm not a sexless pig.

I tell you what there are some impressive women out there that have the swagga!! I went to a Chiefs game and on Saturday when we were watching college football this girl was on top of her bar stool just giving it to this guy on how much better Mizzou was than Kansas State, spit flying in your face finger pointing, and she was a hotty i must add!!
If they can hold their own and they are hot, I am all into it. Actually that may also be sexist.

I figure there are three things to take into consideration here:
  1. I would always prefer to see a good looking woman over some guy. Simple pleasures.
  2. When I see a female sportscaster at a game like this, I always think about this chick I knew in high school who knew more about hockey than anyone I've ever met before or since. If it were her at an NHL game and she said that X player was doing Y wrong, I'd believe her*.
  3. There are a lot of ex-athletes out there who either don't understand the game beyond their position, aren't able to communicate it, are so irritating they make me want to gouge out my eardrums or are a combination of those traits.
So all told, unless the sideline reporter is actively making herself look stupid, I have no problem with it.

* Last year, the channel that covers the San Jose Sharks started running these "sports knowledge is attractive" commercials where this ugly waitress gets hotter and hotter as she talks hockey. I'm convinced this girl must have been the basis for those.
