REMINDER.... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.
........ YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
Even if the message is saved on your phone, you will be charged for the minutes to listen to it.
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222 .
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds.

A quick Google search shows that this is an old internet hoax/rumor. Here's an example:

I'm not sure what to think of that number. I have come up with all kinds of things that it is a hoax or just the opposite, although it does appear to be legit for the most part, but who knows. I have never got a telemarketing call on either of my cell phones and neither are on any sort of "do not call list"

As far as the number goes, that is the correct number for the national do not call registry. However, the whole "cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies" thing isn't true, and has been floating around the internet for quite a while. The Snopes link I provided explains it in detail, just scroll down to the "Origins" section and read that, especially the two bullet points and the paragraph preceding them.

Just a quick FYI - You can also go directly to their website (https://www.donotcall.gov/) and register your phone there. You can register either your home or cell phone. It's free and you don't actually have to call in. Just list out the 5 or so phone numbers you want on the list.

I guess I'm as big a fool as Larry, as I passed this info on without reading the rest of the thread - just assuming ya know.
And I'm always the first one to tell people not to pass this shit on.
Dammit.

It is interesting though- my wife complained today that she has started getting telemarketers calling her cell. It was a spontaneous complaint. I registered it on the do not call list today.
