This year has been very slow and very unpredictable, in terms of player performance. It's taken a long time, but I've started to see a few players rise to the top. The guys I really like, I've placed in bold.

QB

Orton - What can I say? He's in an organization that believes in him. He's got an actual offense around him now. And Denver is using him to the best of his abilities. If you're still looking for a #2 QB, Orton is the guy. Orton is a high-end #2 QB. Orton will only get better as time progresses because although he works on playing a mistake-free game, he's showing me this year he can make big plays when necessary. Don't be surprised when Denver locks up Orton with a big, long-term contract.

Cassel - Not a #1 QB, but he's a decent #2 QB to have. If you need a bye-week replacement or you're looking for a #2 QB to put on your roster. Cassel could be okay for the job. He's never going to be the New England QB we saw, but he does have some good receivers. It's just that his line is awful and there's no running game. But this pretty much assures that he's going to throw the ball 25-30 times a game.

RB

Choice - I've seen owners in some leagues drop Choice. I like Marion Barber, but Choice is a very good back (obviously). Even if Barber is starting and even if Felix Jones is healthy and playing, Choice is still a good option if you need a bye-week replacement or a #3 RB/flex position.

Jones - When Felix Jones is healthy, he's going to see the same amount of playing time as Choice. Both backs are deadly and both backs are going to chew into Barber's carries. Jones can be used in the same positions as Choice (once he recovers). There's a chance you find him in free agency since he's been banged up.

Bell - Now although Pierre Thomas is clearly the starting RB, Bell is back from his injury and he's going to see the field. He's not going to out perform Thomas, but Bell is going to be NO's goal-line back. A good RB who's the goal-line back for one of the best offenses in the NFL, is someone you should really consider. You should consider him as a #3 RB right now.

WR

Royal - I've seen a LOT of owners give up on Royal. A lot of owners think he's a bust. But Royal is still an amazing receiver. The problem isn't him but that Orton spreads the ball out very well. Royal is a very good, low-end #2 WR for any fantasy team. It's taken a while for Orton to find Royal, but don't let this guy go and if he's out there, snatch him up!

Austin - Miles Austin will probably be the most highly, coveted receiver this week. And I understand why. But don't over value him! He had an awesome performance yesterday, but don't become blinded by that. I do think he will continue to start. And I do think he's going to put up some good games every once in a while, but I'd continue to wait and see how DAL decides to use him, because Austin started because Roy Williams was injured. I'm sure DAL will use him a lot more, I'm just saying don't go crazy over him yet. Pick him up, but take a wait and see approach.

Nicks - This is a guy you need to keep your eye on! If you're in a keeper league, you pick this guy up immediately. The feeling I've got from this guy is he's going to beat Mario Manningham for the #2 receiver spot on the Giants before the end of the season. Nicks looks like a very good receiver and is bringing in some good performances even at the #3 position on New York's roster. If you've got an extra bench spot, stash him away right now. If you're in a keeper league, make sure you grab him.

Maclin - I like Maclin. Especially when McNabb is in. And now that he just pushed his way into the #2 receiver role, expect to continue to see more of him. If you need a solid WR for the rest of the year, Maclin's your guy. He's finally grasped the starting role and he's not going to mess it up.

Avery - The Rams' receivers have really gotten banged up. And now Avery is back to being the clear-cut guy again. He's nothing flashy but whoever the Rams QB is, they're going to target him a lot (especially since they'll be passing a lot, in most games).
Heatseeker
I'm dumping Ginn and Lance Moore and put in claims on Maclin (who I drafted originally and cut) as well as Nicks.

Hate to burst your bubble but Bell is not going to be the goal line carrier for the Saints. It's going to be Thomas, who's proven he can be the goal line back again and again.

Saints are going to use him.

He will get touches and Saints are going to give him most of the goal line carries. It's not a secret what they plan to use him for. There's not much else I can say besides, just wait and see. wink.gif

If you need a #3 RB or flex guy still, Bell is a good option to put in there. I would say there's a 50-60% every week you can get 6 points from him.
Heatseeker
I picked up Hakeem Nicks and Austin Collie (woot) of waivers.

Some guys that could be useful...

RB

Laurence Maroney - He played well in the absence of Sammy Morris. But NE still values Morris more then Maroney. So for now Maroney's a decent option until Morris is back. I don't think NE will hand the ball to Maroney now just because of yesterday. That was a unique game. Morris will still be the starter, but like I said, as long as Morris is out, Maroney will be the starter. And so he's good for a bye-week replacement. Keep an eye on him though because there's a chance Maroney could get his job back.

WR

Nicks - I mentioned him last week, hopefully you guys made room for him. If not, you'll probably have some competition this week. This guy will not only beat Manningham but he could also beat Smith out too.

Massaquoi - I don't see this guy putting up big number consistently. But I think he can be solid most weeks. He's basically the only solid receiver CLE has now, so he's going to get a lot of chances. He'll probably be on your WW considering people probably dropped him after last week. Don't just drop a guy after one week.

Rice - Probably available in some leagues, but try to get him. Definitely a #3 now.

Commenting on the players I recommended last week...

Choice and Jones are still good backups to have. I think Choice though has proven himself enough to beat out Jones for more carries. I think there may even be a chance for Choice to beat out Barber for carries. He's good.

As expected, Bell saw the goal-line carries. A goal-line back for a good offense is a solid flex or bye-week replacement.

Don't drop Maclin. He's not a 1 week wonder. He's clearly the PHI's #2 WR, but their offense works similar to GB's. They spread the ball. Good #3 WR.

Nicks saved my butt this week. Starting him, Austin Collie and Bernard Berrian (Calvin Johnson on a bye) this week. Also have Massaquoi and Knox.

I was saved also. I have CJ on one of my teams as well and used Nicks in his place. It worked out well!

I want to say something about Maroney.

Was talking to somebody about the Patriots. He's a big fan and has always been spot on before. So I thought I'd pass on his insight.

He said as long as Morris remains injured, Maroney probably be the go-to guy (if he is, it will be short-lived). He said if if I wanted to pick a NE back, it would be BenJarvus Green-Ellis and not Maroney. He said Maroney tries to be a shifty back when he's really not one. And so he doesn't hit holes that quick and frustrates the coaches. He said they like Green-Ellis more.

The waiver wire is better this week. Players in bold are players I really, really like.

QB

Kyle Orton - Denver was on a bye this week, so you might find Orton in the free agency pool in some leagues. I've seen him dropped in one of my leagues. It really puzzles me though why people aren't on board with Orton. He's the real deal. He's actually involved with an organization that's fully committed towards him. And he's almost a lock every week for 200+ yards and 2 TD's.

RB

Chris Wells - He's not the starter but I saw Whisenhunt said that he's increasing his role. So it looks like you could start to see 10-15 touches a game. And a couple of Cardinals fans told me that they think Hightower is almost done, they expect Wells to get the job within a couple of weeks. Could be a good #3 RB eventually.

Mike Bell - Again, get Bell guys. I've recommended him for 2 weeks now. He's NO's goal line back and he can pick up nice chunks of yardage as we saw yesterday.

Shonn Greene - He's going to be the hottest pickup this week in most leagues. Don't put him #1 though on your list. He's going to get Leon Washington's role, which is just a handful of carries each week. They seem committed to Thomas Jones no matter what, because Washington was capable of what Greene did yesterday as well. I'd take Wells or Bell over him definitely.

Jamaal Charles - If you want to look smart, pick up Charles if you have room and if you miss these other 3 guys. I haven't heard anything on what Haley is going to do to LJ. But there's probably a good chance LJ could see a 4 game suspension and/or reduced carries and/or a lost starting job. But just remember, KC's OL is probably the worst in the NFL.

WR

Hakeem Nicks - Hope you guys picked up Nicks when I spoke of him a few weeks ago. Just as I expected, he's going to make a serious push for more looks. He shouldn't be on your WW still, but just in case, here's a reminder.

Jeremy Maclin - He's their 2nd best receiver, but PHI's offense is just like GB's. They spread it around. So he'll be streaky. But when he's on, he'll be on. As of now, he's got 3 receptions for 33 yards on MNF.

Michael Crabtree - I was very skeptical of Crabtree. But he's definitely capable of being a #3 WR after seeing him yesterday. It didn't take him long, so pick him up. I'd take Nicks and Maclin over him still.
Vots
Looks like LJ could get released.

All season long KC has stuck to the running game even though LJ's been bad.

There's a chance here that Charles could provide a spark. Their O-line's bad, but I think Charles will be better then LJ. Plus, Charles can be used on passing plays. Give him a shot if you didn't get Wells or Greene.
Vots
Just read a report that Malcolm Floyd from San Diego may bump Chris Chambers out of the starting spot within the next two games.

The reason is because he's a free agent after this year and SD thinks he's really good. And after his big game last week, they want to see more of him before the season's over.

If you've got the ability to make room, this is a very good sleeper to hold on to for a few games.
Vots
Players in bold are ones I really like.

RB

Jamaal Charles - LJ's run in KC is done. Now Charles isn't a complete lock because they do have a couple of "prospect RB's". But this Charles job to lose. KC used that spread offense and Charles is better suited for it then LJ is. I would expect Charles to be slightly better then LJ. I'd say he's a high-end #4 RB.

Ryan Moats - This is an interesting one. Slaton has been a draft day bust so far. And then when he fumbled yesterday and the coaches took him out, they brought Moats in and he never looked back for the rest of the game. The thing is though, HOU isn't going to give up on Slaton (even though he's disappointed them greatly this year). But Moats looks like he could be a good #4 RB, since they've got Slaton on a short leash. When Slaton messes up, Moats comes in. Moats could be a guy that could see 8-10 carries a game or more if Slaton just isn't working. Granted, this is all a wash if Moats doesn't continue to be a guy that can pound the rock. Pick him up as a depth guy for now, until we this situation unfold a little more.

Felix Jones/Tashard Choice - They're not going to these guys as much as last year. But don't give up on these guys. For one, DAL at any point could go back to using this three-headed monster. And also, I don't know of any other players with more upside if Marion Barber goes down. These guys also don't even need a lot of carries to have big games. These guys can have big games on 5-10 carries. If a team cut them in your league, pick them right back up. To good to sit in the free agency pool just because they're not being used at this moment.

Chris Wells - 47 yards might make some owners drop him. So if they do, get him. Those 47 yards came on just 8 carries. ARI was trailing, so they didn't lean on the running game as much. Well is a good #3 RB or flex guy to have.

WR

Malcom Floyd - I made a post before Sunday that you need to make room for this guy. Because he was going to take over Chambers' spot very soon, he's got talent, and he's in a contract year and coaches are going to give him a lot of chances to evaluate him. Well he got the starting nod for yesterday's game. And first catch of the game was a 53-yard bomb. SD is going to throw the ball a lot nowadays, so pick up the #2 WR on that offense. This guy is probably flying under the radar right now!

Kevin Walter - Guys, if you need WR help, pick this guy up! Walter without a doubt has the ability to produce as a #2 fantasy WR. The problem this year compared to last year is that Owen Daniels was taking away looks for him. Daniels is gone now. Walter will be the guy stepping up. And it's clear. Because Schaub targeted him 6 times after Daniels went down. This guy is a diamond in the rough, so to speak.

COMPLETELY AGREE!

I think he will go back to his 5 catches 80 yds and .5 TDs a week/ like last year and the year before.

Not that many new players, basically the same ones from last week...

RB

Ryan Moats - He looked solid. So as long as he keeps splitting the carries, he should do well as a #3 RB.

WR

Kevin Walter
- He only had an okay game, so he may still be an option. He's good for a #3 WR.

Malcom Floyd - If he was picked up, he may be dropped again. When you're third to Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates, he's going to disappoint some weeks. But he's good to use as a #3 WR because he'll have a big game every once in a while.

Vots,

What do you think of Eddie Royal VS. the Skins this week?

Right now, I have Calvin Johnson, Austin Collie and Bernard Berrian starting.

My bench includes:

Eddie Royal, Massaquoi (not starting him), Kenny Britt (ditto) and Hakeem Nicks (BYE)

I'm thinking of putting Royal in Berrian or Collie's spot, but I like the two QB's they have throwing to him.

Thoughts?
Vots
It seems Royal (and Marshall) only have big games when Denver is having to try to win the game by passing.

Most games this year, their defense has kept opponents in check and McDaniels keeps things conservative. He only opens up the passing game in desperate situations.

So you would think that keeping the Redskins at bay isn't going to be a problem this week for the Broncos. So if you think that as well, I wouldn't be to high on Royal.

Between Collie and Berrian. That's a tough one to decide. I think Collie should have a good game, because I have a feeling he'll be in a shootout. And it seems Berrian is becoming an end zone favorite for Favre. Go with your gut, but I'm not feeling Royal this week. His stock actually goes up if they play a pretty tough team though.
Vots
If you're RB's are causing you to sink, this week is your life ring. Don't miss it!

QB

Vince Young - This guy could be returning to his 2007 form. If he continues this he'll continue to be a high-end #2 QB. He's a solid option right now.

RB

Ladell Betts
- Rarely are you able to find a solid RB option this late into the season. But as long as Portis remains out, Betts will continue to be a very good option. He's doing better then Portis which I would bet even if/when Portis comes back, Betts will continue to get touches. As long as Betts is the starter, he's a #2 RB. When Portis comes back, he's still a solid #3 option.

Jason Snelling
- Want a better pickup then Betts? This guy! Turner went down with a high ankle injury, so Turner will probably miss a few weeks at worst-case scenario. If that's the case, Snelling is going to be very valuable for lots of owners.

[EDIT - Forgot Forsett]
Justin Forsett - This is my favorite pickup this week. And I will be picking him up because I have Ronnie Brown on one of my teams. Julius Jones could be out for a while and this guy looked fresh as a daisy. Plus he can participate in the passing game.

WR

Laveranues Coles - Chris Henry is out for the season, so Coles is going to get a lot more targets. I think he can be good enough to perform as a flex player.

Donnie Avery - Worth a look. STL's schedule is easier from here on out.

Malcom Floyd - Another sub-par week. But he's a big play receiver, and came a hair away from a TD. Keep him on your roster for desperate times. This guy will reward you at times.
Jeremy
ugh. Dropped Snelling last week to pick up Betts. With my waiver priority, I don't think I'm getting him back. And of course I have Turner. In retropsect, maybe should have dropped Felix Jones instead.
Heatseeker
I started Collie, C.J. and Royal. Didn't matter because I have Peterson, Favre, Ricky Williams and the Titans D biggrin.gif

I have a question - would anyone drop one of my current backup players for anyone on your list?

My starting lineup is very solid, my backups are:

WR - Crabtree, Santana Moss
RB - Portis, Shonn Green, Donald Brown

Available in my league are:

WR - Avery, Floyd, and Avant
RB - Betts, Snelling, Forsett as well as some marginal players like Larry Johnson, Fargas, Fred Taylor, and Derrick Ward.

I don't know that I will be using any of these unless they have a great matchup or someone gets hurt.
My starters are:

QB - Rodgers
WR - Fitzgerald
WR - DeSean Jackson
WR - Sims-Walker
RB - Ray Rice
RB - Pierre Thomas
R/W - Morreno
TE - Heath Miller (Have Finley as backup if he comes back strong from his injury)

Vots
I would definitely drop Shonn Greene for Justin Forsett. Greene is just a guy who's going to get 6-8 carries a game. Forsett is now a guy who's going to get a full share of carries. And he's a lot fresher then Jones too.

I would also look into dropping Santana Moss. His value is basically the same as Coles, Avery, and Floyd. But I like Coles and Floyd over Moss. They're on good teams and have better chances at making more plays then Moss does. That's up to you though.
kyu
Wow I had the last wavier wire spot and I got...
Snelling
Forsett
and Charles

I dropped A.Smith, D.Macfadden, S.Green
