for the season according to Press Gazette- will have surgery and will be on IR.
Nelson will take over kick off return duties= punt return is not decided sounds like Tramon Williams could get a shot at it.
Blackman had played in the dime defense- can't see who would do that now since they are struggling to find a starting safety.
I would think Underwood would take his spot on other special teams and Trevor Ford would be activated from practice squad or maybe Tauscher will take his place on the 53
This has an affect on the future as well because he is a free agent at the end of the season. It obviously hurts his earning power- he might be more inclined to sign a 1 year deal with the Packer then hit the market again. Tho I am getting way ahead of myself on this.

We have to stop resigning guys who have an injury history. See ya Will...I had high hopes for you.

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, Will Blackmon has had considerable time on the IR. With this latest serious injury it only spells his doom in Green Bay.

I loved the guy in college and I had a lot of hope for him at the CB position in the new defense. . . but I just don't think that the Packers can continue to keep him on the roster. I hope he recovers fully from his injury and goes on to have a good career returning kicks, but I don't think that he'll ever develop into a starting caliber CB and that's what the Packers need to find opposite Tramon Williams for the future of this defense. I'm guessing that Brandon Underwood gets his shot now to see how he does in dime situations and special teams.

I don't understand why we can't keep him on our roster. If he gets hurt you IR him and put someone else on the roster. He's not taking up a roster spot when he is on the IR. He is far too much talent on returns not to have him back. The packers hold all the keys in this situation. He should be back on the cheap.

Why was Rouse cut? His inability to stay healthy was one of the reasons... Same could be said about Blackmon.... Who returns punts now? Jordy for kickoffs yes... but who at punt returns?

Not to take away from the fact that it sucks to lose him, but at least this opens up a roster spot for Tausch should the Packers decide he's ready to go.

The reason Rouse was cut was because he showed an inability to cover and take proper angles, not because he couldn't stay healthy.

good point.
but that's assuming that we'll be able to find a punt returner already on the roster. as i recall, tramon williams looked a lot better returning kicks than punts in the past, and nelson (a solid kick returner as well) has had trouble catching the ball on punts. is trying brandon jackson too crazy of an idea?
i just hope we don't go with Charles Woodson back there. i can't handle that kind of stress!

I don't think we should bring him back. He hasn't been able to stay healthy and frankly he hasn't been doing a whole lot on returns this year. Nelson in fewer opportuntities has had longer punt and kickoff returns. Blackmon missed the 1st game due to another injury and is now out for the year. Tramon Williams is a much better kickoff returner than Blackmon. Nelson has also shown he can be a good returner on both kicks and punts.

I think that he's a great returner, but it's time to start looking for someone else who can do just as well and stay healthy. I expect him to be back next year for cheap if he recovers well, but I'm really hoping that they find an adequate replacement at both returner and cornerback. That way his injury concerns no longer hurt the team long-term.

No thanks. We've got a decent enough returner on the roster right now and that's all that Justin Miller offers. I'd rather they add Mark Tausher to fill the roster spot and get him up to speed. Need more help on the OLine than anything else right now.

Ellis...Dont disagree at all... But would not mind and extra return man and tausch..if they can make it happen...tausch being priority if he is 100 %....not in week 10...but then again his exp and other tangibles could help as well..
