I think what I want to say here is:

"We had a rough game, the Vikings played very well. We lost the game, but at least we didn't quit. I believe we can do better with the talent we have, and I look forward to meeting these guys again at Lambeau."

Then I'm gonna not spend the next two weeks being negative, because it's depressing.

Any chance of this becoming a thing generally here, or no? Because I think spending the next two weeks in the crapper is going to suck otherwise. It was a tough loss and the Packers should have done better, but I'm not sure I have it in me to read an endless slew of "TT/MM/AR suck" posts.

They dont suck - there were just a couple really bad setbacks, the early penalties and the turnovers were killer.

I wont mention the offensive line except to mention the offensive line. I think 2 of those sacks were Aarons fault but everything else...

Not to say I did not hold out hope of GB winning, but I did expect Min to win this game. Another positive spin that was thinking of is that this loss will definitely be on the teams mind and should serve as great motivation to get better over the break. GB needs to use the bad taste in their mouth to get ready to make the playoff push this season.

Personally I will be frustrated these next 2 weeks, but not go nuts thinking this team sucks. This is a very good team, and think as is usual in this series GB will win their home game. Season is far from over folks!!!

Yep. The only way I would be really down is if we had gotten killed. We hung in there, even with all the mistakes. On a positive note, the offense finally moved the ball and Grant finally made some decent runs when it counted. Remember, it's all about who peaks the second half of the season. I just hope we can do something about the O-line.

Yep... Call Tauscher, Levi Jones, Frank Winters, trade for someone, but do it now in the by week and protect AR!!!!

Totally agree! There were a lot of good things to take away from this game, especially early on. Then, Favre kind of took over the game (why doesn't that surprise me as a GB fan?). The Packers definitely did contain Peterson, but didn't contain Favre (DUH!). This team needs a scalpel, not a hatchet. There are areas that definitely are lacking (I all think we know what that specific area is). There are a lot of questions, and a lot of answers. Some are good questions, some are good answers. The question is, can the Packers ask the correct questions, and come up with the correct answers? Forget about the SB this season. Think of a winning season instead- behind Minny, but second in the division. Then, look carefully at the off-season. That will tell a very important tale. Can the tiger change his stripes?

In brief, can TT come to swallow his pride and sign some FA OL players who can protect Rodgers? Ron Wolf always regretted not giving Favre enough weapons. Rodgers has the weapos, he simply doesn't have the time. I fully realize that TT has given a lot of attention to the OL in the past few drafts. The result is dismal. Enough. Strike now. Spend some money.

But then, you lose some defensive players who are up for big contracts! Which way would you go? I would go for better OL play for Rodgers. He's the franchise. Lose him, and the year is gone. Protect your franchise.

I wouldnt go as far as saying Mcarthy & TT suck because they have done some good things, but the current status of our OL is really a mess and this falls squarly on there shoulders. There has been plenty of time to get the talent in here & develop it but at this point in the season we are the worst at protecting the QB. This is inexcusable.....

TT should have had a veteran backup for Barbre in case he doesnt pan out and so far it isnt looking good. That ones on him.

MM should have had the foresight play Colledge more in pre-season & TC at LT, it was my understanding he played very little there & now he has to jump right in with only one week of practice at OT & perform against one of the best in Jared Allen. That ones on him.

With the bye week upon us I thinks its time for TT & MM to admit plan "A" isnt quite going the way we hoped & move on to plan "B". If Mark Tauscher or any other competant veteran OT are healthy & still out there I think TT has to move on this as an insurance policy for Aaron Rodgers, because if he continues to take a beating like this he will not last the season.

I think this (the bolded section) raises a good question. It's an old question; the arguments are always the same; viewpoints rarely if ever change. But still....

Why are the results dismal?

Is it really talent? Does Thompson really consistantly draft the wrong linemen; should those guys really be compared so harshly against their peers coming out of college?

Let's look at Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers fell in the draft, but does that really mean he compares so badly with Alex Smith talentwise? On the other hand, Rodgers is turning into a franchise QB and Alex Smith has been an utter flop, so the shoe's on the other foot - but again, is that really because the innate talent in Alex Smith compares so poorly with the innate talent in Aaron Rodgers?

I don't agree with this static view of such intangibles as talent. And I seriously wonder what the real problem is with our linemen. If Thompson and his entire scouting staff simply cannot spot line talent, then there it is. But there could be other reasons and those reasons are far too infrequently explored, imo. And even when they are, by the very next post in most cases, it's as if such comments have not been made at all.

I still think most fans are too hasty in their heads - they arrive at conclusions too rapidly, without effective analysis. They always remind me of people who return puppies because they pee on the floor; returning them as if they don't work properly. It's a good thing for most of us that parents don't think that way - at least not entirely, not enough to abandon us completely. Even though they may be our fans. smile.gif

It takes some creative thinking to believe TT is not mostly to blame for the offensive line mess.

Not saying he didn't try, he just hasn't succeded, it happens all the time in the NFL.

It does happen all the time. But he doesn't admit his errors. If he can't succeed with the Packers, then it should be time to move on.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, how can TT, MM and all of the Packers scouts be this bad at evaluating O-line talent? Heck, go read the scouting reports on the guys they've drafted, the professionals generally didn't think any of them would be this terrible.

I don't get it.
Gregg
To get a good LT, you usually have to draft him high.

This is why the top LT go so fast. Almost always in the first round and usually in the top 15-20 picks.

THe upside of that is that OL have a good success rate if taken that high.

But besides that, TT and MM have not done well in implementing the zone blocking scheme. I don't know if that is drafting or coaching. I tend to believe the latter.

I would really like us to go back to the isolation gap system now. How long do you stay with something before you admit its not really working?

And if Beightol is still around, hey, please come back.
