yesterday after the game Barnett stated the following:

Barnett also didn't take kindly to the boos he got for the celebration: "Oh yea for everyone that had something to say after I celebrated for making a takle for lost KISS MY ASS... I was trying to get the defense fired up...and so what if I missed the takle before am I suppose to stay in a funk about it!?? Get a life."

gees Nick you whiffed when it could have placed the D off the field.... Once again seen him out of position a lot or could not mnake the play.... Maybe its time NB takes good hard look in the Mirror....NOT a leader in My Book

And this:

Well, we have our first Twitter second guess. Nick Barnett said on his Twitter account after the game that the LB rotation is not something he likes. "Hard to get in The swing of things in a rotation.. Don't know why we are even in a rotation at this point."

I dont know Nick, I Think Trogavic and Capers know what the heck there doing... why not just step up and play...

When Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco did it before the start of the regular season, we knew it wouldn't last.

Now that Packers linebacker Nick Barnett is bailing on Twitter until the 2010 offseason, we have a feeling it will stick.

In announcing to his 17,000-plus followers that he's signing off for now, Barnett acknowledges that: (1) he's emotional; and (2) he often forgets that "everything is public" on Twitter.

The move comes a day after he very publicly invited all who booed him for celebrating a tackle during Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Bengals to "KISS MY ASS."

Barnett also says that he made the decision without talking to anyone from the Packers.

We have a feeling he won't be the last one to pull the plug on his Twitter page, during the season if not permanently.

Thanks for the update Luvda....

jpack, I have ALWAYS felt that Barnett did more talking then playing. I know he is an emotional guy and thats all well and good but for some reason he picks VERY inopportune times to express himself and it usually results in fans and dare I say other players expressing disappointment in him.
maxman44
I generally support all our players but Barnett dances one play after whiffing on a crucial tackle and then wonders why he gets booed?

As I tell my kids and players who I coach "Act like you've been there"

Barnett talks like he's an All-Pro but clearly he isn't. I guess we'll have to wait until he grows up. rolleyes.gif

Barnett makes lots of tackles 5-10 yards from the line of scrimmage. He thinks is is Ray Lewis but plays like Jerry Lewis.

Barnett is fighting back from a career threatening injury.

He does his little martial arts dance as a tribute to his father and as an attempt to fire up the defense.

I can understand fans who don't like it or think it is silly, but it is done with good intention.

Every player has his own way of firing himself and teammates up.

IMO too much is made of Nick's silly ritural

I don't think it's the dance as much as the timing - he just blew a tackle on the previous 3rd down play that gets the defense off the field - then dances on the next play - not the time to dance IMHO
Rob
Why doesn't he just dance after we win the game instead? Obviously his little 'fire up' dance doesn't work. I have yet to see a fired up Packers team, certainly not in the Bengals game. Ya know what gets a team fired up? Plays like Ray Lewis's at the end of the game against Sproles last week.

If his little magic dance is so potent, instead of practicing all week why dont the Packers just watch Dancing with the Stars? By Barnett and Bruce's logic we should be a #1 defense then right?

Exactly. Make the tackle on 3rd down and force the punt and do a little dance. Don't do it on the next play after you just whiffed on a key tackle.

That's right - and worse, that was the drive that got the Bengals their winning touchdown.

laugh.gif That's a good one. So who's Dean Martin?

You've reminded me of a great sketch (it's on youtube) where Bob Newhart was Dean's guest and they did a 'toupée' sketch. He couldn't stop laughing at Newhart's routine, so Bob adlibbed a couple of cracks - that was one of the things that made tv in those days so much fun. Like at one point, when Dean (playing the store clerk) asks Bob (the customer) if he would like a new toupée and Newhart replies, "No, but I wouldn't mind a straightman who could keep a straight face".

So a few lines later (by now, neither one of them can keep a straight face), Bob asks him if he did this to Jerry, which breaks them both up - and then Dean replies, "no, but his material was never this good".

It's great stuff actually. Just do a search on both names, you'll see it.

He's starting to sound like Milton Bradley of the Cubs. Bradley is now suspended for the remainder of the season.

Yep.

Bishop and Chillar need a chance to play more. Put Hawk in on running downs IMO.

Well he didn't start running his mouth. I would be fired up if someone talk smack after you work hard out there. No one should be able to tell him anything after a game, unless he doesn't bring it every play. Celebrations are a part or the game whether we like it or not. He has worked real hard to get back into shape after injury. Maybe he is getting to many snaps to soon? If so, that's not his fault, that's coaching. Barnett brings it every play.

I know there's another thread about Barnett & Twitter, but that focuses on Nick. This thread is more about the Packers organization than it is about Nick.

In case you missed it, here's the story: http://community.sportsbubbler.com/blogs/r...outh-again.aspx

Ok, so Nick Barnett got heated about comments from fans and broadcasters and used his Twitter account to address these folks. Big deal, right? Well, it is sort of. Because now people are talking, headlines and being printed, and worst of all, Nick is focusing on something other than the St Louis Rams. It's a distraction. And perhaps worst of all, this situation may even be fostering a rift between Barnett and Packer fans, which is unfortunate because I'm sure 99% of Packer fans support Nick and want to see him succeed.

I've been in the PR profession for about 10 years. It is my job to help my clients deal with the media and the public. It is my job to anticipate and prepare for certain situations and to help them convey the best possible image at all times (even, and perhaps especially, in the tough times). We know the Packers addressed Twitter usage before the season started, but did the organization do enough to prepare the players for the inevitable idiot Packer fan who will "@reply" Barnett with obscenities for every missed tackle, on-field outburst, and whatever else? It seems they did not. I could be wrong of course. Maybe they did address these issues, and Barnett ignored their advice. That's certainly possible. But at the end of the day, what happened, happened. And rather than pointing the finger at Nick for being emotional, I point the finger at the Packers organization for not better preparing these players to deal with this situation.
lozmel
When is the last time you saw Barnett blow up a play? Bishop should be playing over Barnett. Barnett is a legend in his own mind.

Heat I hope this does happen, I still saw Barnett out of position, he tends to freelance too much..I think that was brought up last year...I just hope they dont play him because of the contract and such..Chillar, Hawk, Bishop, Kampman, Mathews... Sorry but I would like to see this rotation more on the field then the others...JMO

NFL is not a soap opera. Please, players, for the sake of the game put down your iBerries, zombiePhones(*), or whatever the hell you have and stop tweeting. Go watch some film, or just hang out with your teammates or family.

Fans, please to the sport a favor and stop giving these players an audience. Un-follow them on twitterbook.

* I ride the subway to work every day, and people thumbing their 3 inch computers with their heads down look like zombies to me.

Anybody else notice Barnett getting that egregious and unecessary facemask penalty (which gave the Lions a first down they had just missed out on)? And then around 2 plays later do his stupid idiot dance after making a tackle for a 1 yard loss. What a waste of space that guy is.

ANyone else notice him blitzing and trying to do a Freeney spin move but the lineman just stepping a bit to the right completely stonewalling him?

I remember when Barnett was a fairly decent linebacker. What a slacker now.
Vots
The thing is, Barnett has always made a sloppy tackle or over run a play here and there.

The problem this year is that he missed out on so much stuff when the team was trying to learn this new system. He's probably 1-2 months behind his team mates in terms of grasping the 3-4.

I don't know if "lost" is the right word here, but right now he probably is lost and trying to find his place on the team. And it's not just because he's probably behind everyone, it's that the 3-4 is hurting him.

Since his rookie year through 2007, a sloppy tackle or the occasional play he over ran, usually were forgotten because he still made a lot of tackles, could rush the QB, and had good ball hawking skills for a MLB.

Leaving the 4-3 has hurt him. That's what he's always played in so he probably developed a natural instinct of what was happening on the field. So that's why I use the term "lost" here and now he's trying to find his way back home.

Barnett is a good LB. But now the 3-4 is exposing his weaknesses a lot more.

He gets the pleasure of shedding more O-lineman then ever before. Which has always been a problem for him.

He gets the pleasure of taking on more pass coverage plays. And going into pass coverage has also been a problem for him.

Barnett is someone that has made a career of stopping the run.

One of the ILB's on the 3-4 is still responsible for stopping the run, except it seems his size is to small to handle the constant blockers he'll see, because our front 3 is not good enough yet to hold back 5 lineman almost every play (like the Ravens can). So he's been over-whelmed.

So if he has trouble with that assignment, then he needs to be good in pass coverage. And he can't do that to well either.

There's really no place on this 3-4 defense to take advantage of his talents. He's not a gifted LB, but only one that can exceed well in a simpler role (like the one he had in the 4-3).

Since the 1st game, I've watched Barnett improve every game. But it's been small. I think he can be a serviceable ILB. But eventually, for this defense to take off, he'll need replaced. Him and Kampman both.
Vots
I'd like to bump this up.

I haven't replayed the game yet, but I watched Barnett extra close today.

Like I mentioned in the post above, every game he's shown incremental improvements. Small ones.

Today, from what I saw, he looked comfortable for once and was making good reads on the running plays. I only saw him get eaten up by a lineman once. He missed a couple tackles, but Barnett isn't an all-pro. So you're going to get that with him.

Barnett isn't an outstanding linebacker who can be that superstar ILB. But cut him some slack as he continues to catch up with the rest of the defense. I think he can eventually be that 2003-07 4-3 LB we've watched through the years in the 3-4.
DaveatMIZZOU
I agree Vots. Now I unfortunately watch the games at a sports bar. But I do try to watch Barnett, because I seem to be one of the few Packers fans that like him. He has improved each week.
