Full Version: Packers Must Exploit Weakness of Bengals' Offensive line

Left guard Evan Mathis getting his first start in three seasons, in for the injured Nate Livings (knee) and Center Kyle Cook is a first year starter.

Pickett should dominate and Jenkins will give Mathis fits when they slide him inside to DT in their specialty packages IMO

I believe that the Packers' front has the ability to give fits to any O-line that isn't playing at the top of it's game. We haven't had that ability around here for many seasons now. I think Caper's scheme will excel at finding the weaknesses in opponents' lines, like the ones Bruce mentioned, and find varied ways to exploit them all game long. Capers' creativity, coupled with some great talent up front is going to make this a dangerous group this season. The individual talents and specialties of Pickett, Jenkins, Jolly and Raji are really unique and varied, and when you add in the the mind boggling array of talents the linebacking crew adds to the mix with their explosiveness, experience, and physical attributes, there's going to be a whole lot of offensive linemen who have really bad days at the office this year!

Yes Capers will exploit any and every weakness he can detect.

Further, the Packers have not had a defensive line coach like Mike Trgovac since Phil Bengtson was assisting on the defensive side of the football during Vince Lombardi's incredible run ('59 to '67), a tenure that captured five NFL titles, and the first two Super Bowls.

Trgovac pushes these boys and they all leave it all on the field for him.

And Trgovac must like Green Bay since this is is second time as the D-line Coach.

He was the D-line coach n 99. Back in the Vonnie Holiday, Sanata Dotson and Cletidus Hunt Days.

But that was so long ago Sharper, Longwell and Farve were still Packers. And Backup QB was Hasselbeck.

The 2008 Bengal OL wasn't very good. They gave up a whopping 51 sacks and ranked 30th in the league with a 3.6 yard avgerage on the ground. The offense scored a measly 204 points, by far the worst in the league. I don't care who was QB'ing the team.....that is poor OL play. Of course it doesn't help having Cedric Benson as your RB and absolutely no pass catching threat at TE.

I know the D line was great against CHI, but we need Raji on the field and it showed today. There needs to be a rotation to keep guys fresh. The 5 linebacker 2 Lineman look is an interesting switch up but should not be a regular D in the NFL. It was a bad day all around but the D and O lines are the main culprits why GB lost.

Bruce, I hate to say it, but we're the ones with the OL woes. Aaron can't get anything going when he is running for his life.

I did wonder though...maybe I'm just hoping, but we seemed to do a little better when the line shifted and Wells came in as center. We had something going until Grant gave the ball away. mad.gif

Irony noted- and appreciated!
