Full Version: League Rules On Televising Division Games

Maybe I've been living in the wrong cave this year, but did the league change the rule that forbids televising a team in a certain market if that market's home team is playing a game in the same time slot?

That was a really ugly sentence, but I can't figure out a way to write it any better at the moment. What I mean is, the Vikings and the Packers are both playing at noon this Sunday, which I always thought meant that the Packer game could not be televised here in the Twin Cities. But the listings are all showing that the Vikings are going to be on Fox at noon, and the Packers on CBS. Is that possible? Is a mistake being made in the listings? Or has the rule been changed and Don Goodell forgot to e-mail me?

When an NFC team plays an AFC team at home CBS gets the game and viceversa, if that helps.

I was kinda wondering too.

Here in NY, the Jets were on at 1pm which usually means that no other game will be on the other channel. However, some game was on that had no regional impact. In the past they've gone so far as to cut away from a game ending field goal try to start the Jets broadcast (with time to spare before kickoff)

If the home market is playing at home (and is not blacked out), then no game can be shown at the same time, or something like that. Since the Queens are on the road, they can show the Packer game. I have no idea why.

I believe this to be correct, as well.

It's a stupid rule, but I think they have it in place so that people will buy tickets to the game instead of staying at home where they can flip back and forth between two games. Doesn't make sense in a place like green bay since they'll always sell out. Even so, in the cities that don't always fill the stadium, I'd think the threat of a blackout would be far more effective than only allowing certain games to air.
