Full Version: My team from an interesting keeper league

Astonishment
I just joined a 10 man league as an expansion team (with another guy) pushing the league total to 12.

Each existing team had 3 keepers (the team must give up the draft chice after the round the player was selected in during the previous draft- i.e. Steve Slayton was an 11th round pick the previous year so he was kept for a 10th rounder in this draft), than the 2 expansion teams were allowed to keep 2 players from the leftover pool. That meant 34 players off the board to start, and the expansion were at a clear disadvantage with our keepers.

The only saving grace was the draft was a ladder instead of a snake, with a lottery for the non-playoff teams and the 2 expansion teams - I ended up with the 3rd pick (actually the 2nd because the guy with the 2nd pick chose to keep Larry Fitzgerld with the 2nd pick overall blink.gif ).

The scoring is pretty straight forward with no ppr. The starters are set up like this: QB, WR, WR, RB, TE, WR/TE, WR/RB, K, Def, and a 7 man bench. Obviously this makes the league very WR poor and RB rich. My stratagty going in was to try and set myself up for the future so I had some keepers next year, but I think I may actually be able to compete after the draft. Here were my results:

Keepers:
Dwayne Bowe (7th round), Ryan Grant (9th round)

1st - Stephen Jackson
2nd - Marques Colston
3rd - Lee Evans (I had two rounds that went bad for me this was the 1st - I had a few players I felt I could get here and they all went right before my pick)
4th - Matt Schaub
5th - Greg Olsen
6th - Larry Johnson (this was the other round that went very poorly)
7th - (keeper)
8th - Glen Coffee
9th - (keeper)
10th - Hakeem Nicks
11th - Matt Hasselbeck
12th - James Davis
13th - Nate Washington
14th - Kevin Boss
15th - Dallas Def
16th - David Ackers

This was obviously a new experience for me, but with the disadvantage I was at I feel pretty good about this lineup going against the rest of the league and I feel I still gave myself some keeper options in the late rounds.

QB - Matt Schaub
WR - Dwayne Bowe
WR - Marques Colston
RB - Steven Jackson
TE - Greg Olsen
W/T - Lee Evens
W/R - Ryan Grant
K - David Ackers
Def - Dallas Def

Bn - Matt Hasselbeck
Bn - Larry Johnson
Bn - Glen Coffee
Bn - Hakeem Nicks
Bn - James Davis
Bn - Nate Washington
Bn - Kevin Boss

Keep in mind after this draft 192 players were off the board.

May be an interesting league...certainly the roster makeup is a little outside the box.

Matt Schaub, if he can stay healthy, is one of those guys that fly under the radar but can be a pretty solid fantasy QB.

I'm pretty high on Greg Olsen...I live in Chicago and I hear every day how Jay Cutler and Greg Olsen are best friends now, and have great chemistry, and he will likely be their #1 receiver.

And I think Ryan Grant might be a steal for a lot of fantasy owners this year. Maybe I'm a little biased, but you can make a good case for it, I think.

As for the keeper thing, I'm not sure you'll be able to keep these guys if you can only keep three a year, but James Davis and Hakeem Nicks both have a chance to be good IMO.

I drafted those players (along with Coffee) hoping they pan out into keepers. One thing I forgot to mention is one of your keepers has to be 7th round or later. Also if Hasselbeck has a bounce back year like I think he will, he could be a keeper option along with those 3 rookies. Thanks for the response.
