The Eagles will release Feely later today and the Packers are interested, possibly will use a waiver claim.

I have mixed feelings about this. Would Feely obviously be better than Flynn? Who would we release?

Sep 6 2009, 09:28 AM
He would. He can come in during the regular season and maintain a game, I dont have that confidence in Flynn, yet.
Who said a release Mark, "Trader Ted" like to "wheal and deal" this time of the year...

Will Feely actually be on waivers? i thought once you accumulated so many years in the league you skipped the process and were free to sign wherever

You may be right, I am not sure, but I am sure the Packers do have interest.

I guess I'm okay with it, but it depends on who they release. Is Feely more valuable than John Kuhn.... well only if Rodgers goes down for a while. For a game or two, I'm okay with Flynn.

Yea im hoping its that way myself, that way we could "competitively" pursue him if need be, instead of having to sit on pins and needles hoping someone else doesn't claim him.
Feely is not a real starter by any means but he's solid and is a student of the WCO he'd fit in fine.

Jeff Garcia to Denver, look like Feely/Harrington may be the guy.

Garcia going to Denver could be a good spot for him. He could be starting there soon.

We want nothing to do with Harrington, I would rather have Flynn back there than Joey.
Feely would be a good back up, he has been coached by Reid and Marty so we know he will have a handle on the O.

I do not think they sign another QB now

so...if the Packer can move Havner, Kuhn or Hall for A draft pick, would they be interested in Feely after the 1st game?
How "hurt" is Flynn, anyhow?
Even if healthy, I think Feely would manage a game better if called upon than Flynn at this point in his career.

Garcia to Denver is the obvious move for him as he is leaving Oakland because he doesn't want to be a back up, and Denver is without a competent QB.
Feeley has had a pretty good pre season. I don't think he is a long term answer, but he could maintain a lead if he came into a game.

I think Feely could start a game or two, manage that game with making minimum mistakes and give a team an opportunity to win it. I think he would make an excellent backup QB.

With Brohm on the PS, I don't see TT going after any QB. If TT was willing to go into last season with only Flynn and Brohm backing up Rodgers, I don't see why he wouldn't do the same now.

Brohm has not developed like we had hoped, and Flynn is recovering from a boo-boo. Last year they tried to get Culpepper <shiver> at one point if I remember correctly.
Feely is an "assignment sure" type guy, I think that is going over big right now.

I hope TT isn't taking this approach. The division is 3 deep this year, one game could be the difference in making the playoffs. If A-rod goes down for a game, we need a guy who isn't going to "mess" the bed when called upon.

Last season we were coming off an appearance in the NFC Champ game and were expected to a very competitive team. This season Flynn and Brohm both look to be improved players, so I guess I just don't see why TT would approach the situation any differently.
EDIT: I should add that I don't agree with this strategy. I just think it's what TT will do.

Just an FYI Joe, players with more than 4 years in the NFL do not have to go through waivers, they become instant Free Agents. Feeley is free to sign with anyone that he wants to.

If the Packers sign a veteran QB I think it will be after week #1 - I believe they would not have to guarantee his contract for the season if signed after the 1st week

I dont think the Packers will bring in any other quarterbacks unless one of ours is injured and will miss some games. I think they would pull Brohm off the practice squad if there is that injury and use him as back up until they can get a experienced qb in for the #2. I dont see them getting Feely.

Reading that the Pats have interest and that his wife plays prof. soccer in Boston. So I think we can figure out where he will go.
