I am so glad the Packers did not have an opportunity to waste their #9 pick on this waste of potential talent - potential that will never be met IMO
Rookie right tackle Andre Smith broke his left foot during practice Tuesday, only two days after he ended his holdout with the Cincinnati Bengals.

lol, ridiculous. It's about time they do something about this rookie contract nonsense.
#1 Pick: $5 million a year limit
#2-5: $3.5 million a year limit
#6-10: $2.5 million a year limit
Rest of the first round: $2 million a year limit
Rest of the rounds: $1 million a year limit

The guy is soft. Look at his draft workout. He looks like the stay puff marshmallow man. So no wonder he got hurt. But I heard it was not a season ender they think it is a 4-6 week injury.

They just reported on PFT that Smith showed up weighing in at 364 pounds, almost 30 more pounds than he did at the combine.
Yikes...

I think this particular "holdout" was as much the fault of the Bengals as it was the player and his agent. Cincinatti considered the contract given to Hayward-Bey to be rediculous and for a long time refused to pay more than what Hayward-Bey got. So it was team that sort of broke the unofficial slotting rules on this one.

Agree, much too early. He does have a weight clause where he gets his game pay is reduced by 50% each week if he is inactive or weights in above 350 pounds. Time will tell on Smith.

I thought I read where he was only going to be out for a couple weeks?
The overweight thing is just ridiculous, though. Who had the Harrell with Twinkies Avatar? That always made me laugh.

Andre Smith or Fat Bastard?
I can't tell the difference.

I don't think I tossed around a "bust" tag, rather I stayed consistent with my pre-draft analysis of Andre Smith - soft and lazy giant who doesn't have the heart to make him worthy of a first round selection let alone a top 10 pick.
I hope for Andre's sake he fashions a NFL career. But I sure am glad he was not TT's mistake given the current situation with this young man.

Come on, that is not really fair Big Dave...
Andre has much larger tataa's and Fat Bastard is much more athletically cut IMO
QUOTE (The GM @ Sep 2 2009, 01:41 PM)

No, it says a much smaller in-shape man was out 7 to 10 days with a similar injury. Andre is going to put more stress on that stress fracture and it is likely to be at least two weeks before he can even start working out.
Andre is so far behind, 09' is almost assuredly going to be a wasted season.

Yup and the injury was a stress fracture. Sounds like a combination of a guy getting completely out of shape and overweight rushing to get back into football shape. Although Raji held out at least the guy kept himself in decent shape so that he can make some kind of contribution when he got back. 364 pounds for an OT is just ridiculous.
This has to be giving Bengals fans flashbacks of Ki-Jana Carter...

Any of you guys watching NFL Hard Knocks on HBO? Its the Bengals this year and its acutally THIS training camp; I think previous years its been the year before. Filming runs a few days to a week behind the airing of the episode. Tonight's episode had Smith coming in and practicing at the end. After signing his deal he went in to see Mike Brown and Brown made some comment like, you don't look like you're in football shape. I had to laugh. The episode ended w/ Smith limping off the field and they said he had a fracture in his foot. I thought they said 3-4 weeks

I watched hard knocks last night also. Heard the comment by Brown and laughed. Smith looked completely out of shape. I question the Bengals coaching staff for putting him on the practice field right away when it was completely obvious he is not in shape. Then again after that contract he just signed I would want him on the practice field right away too. Poor Bengals just can't get a break. Lokks like they really needed Smith to be productive this year. I think 2009 is going to be a lost year for Mr. Smith.

When it continuously happens to the same team..it's not about bad breaks anymore...it's about sheer stupidity.

I think I heard that coming from Raiders fans recently...!
But yea, that Smith injury. Saw it Hard Knocks, too. Gotta admit, HBO has a real gem with that show. Highly entertaining, and I like the teams they use too. Teams dumb enough to let a camera come in and create a 'schism'. LOL.
I'm all out of jokes, but the Brown-Smith spot was hilarious. He really did look like Fat Bastard next to Paul Brown.

actually I think the last two (Dallas, KC) were on NFL Network, originally i think this started on HBO a few years back. Reason is, because now on HBO, nothing's edited. Man does Mike Zimmer (Bengals DC) swear a lot!!!
Also, weren't the other shows about the season BEFORE... now this one is actually about this season, almost live if you will.
But getting back to the topic at hand, the only thing that made me laugh more was Andre's slick, fast talking agent (can't remember his name). What a tool. Reminded me of the Phil Morris role on Seinfeld that was supposed to be a knock off of Johnnie Cochran, Jackie Childs I believe his name was.

I'm so glad that we got Raji and the Bengals ended up with Andre Smith. If Smith can stay in shape and be healthy enough to get onto the field I think he'll be just as tough as he was in college. . . but all things considered I really, really like the intangibles that Raji and Matthews have shown thus far. Both guys have pride and passion and a solid work ethic. They are going to be fun to root for in the new defense.

Well said. The Pack definitely did their homework on Raji and Matthews. A strong work ethic is first and foremost. And as you said a passion for the game, with pride in their profession is what I like.

How's that Packer OL coming these days??? Rodgers still running for his life???? Love the Raji pick, but after seeing another dismal performance by our OL, Id like to see Smith play a season or two before writing him off.

Exactly, I like Raji but our O tackles are killing us. Thats not to say Smith would have been the "be all end all", but I rather get gouged on the ground than have my franchise QB getting whiplash.
