I Believe In Aaron
I think the Pack should take a look at AJ Trapasso of the Titans. He probably will be cut in favor of Hentrich. I believe he is worth a shot, the kid has a huge leg and was very good in college. Anything has to better then Kapinos.

Although the Packers will most likely look at another punter. I would be comfortable with Kapinos, going into the season. He has preformed decently, IMO, in the chances he has gotten during the preseason, and with the way the offense has been moving, the Packers might not need a punter than often.

No we dont need another overrated OSU punter.

Are you aware that Kapinos leads the NFL in punting this exhibition season?

Changing horses midstream is what got us in such a mess last year. Clearly Ryan was a FAR superior punter to Frost and cutting him and signing someone who was not in camp was a HUGE mistake.

I seriously doubt that we will see Ted Thompson tilting at windmills again on the cusp of a season

I agree, Packers shouldn't look at talented players because of the school they went to... rolleyes.gif

Hmmm... the Packers cut their starting punter before the first game last year and brought in Derrick Frost. That wasn't pretty at all. Bringing in Trapasso next year as a camp leg/challenger is fine. Right now, I'd rather not repeat the mistakes of the past.

I'd try him out on the practice squad for the first part of the season. There won't be many (if any) opportunities for him to catch on somewhere. Let him kick in practice and have the coaching staff work with him for awhile, then if Kapinos continues to underwhelm and Trapasso outperforms him in practice the team can feel confident in any decision to make the switch.

Would they use a spot on the PS for punters? Just curious, sounds odd to have a punter there.

They've done it before. Travis Dorsch spend some time on the practice squad. So did Durant Brooks if I remember correctly. They also brought in a left footed punter to help prepare the team to face one at some point in the recent past. It's certainly a waste of a spot if you feel like you've got the right guy. . . but if not, then it's a perfect opportunity to give a young player an extended audition and see if he's worth cutting the guy you have already. Let them compete side by side and then make a decision. I bet last year would have gone better if we'd kept Ryan and added Kapinos to the practice squad. If Ryan kept on underwhelming then let Kapinos have his shot. As it was, the Ryan for Frost swap was one of the worst moves of the offseason and a huge mistake. Always have the backup plan in place before cutting the guy that you're counting on.

I really have been impressed with Kapinos since he first put on a Packers uniform. Although his stats weren't all that great last year it must also be noted that he only played in the last 4-5 games of the year, many of which were played in cold weather. He also had more punts inside the 20 than Frost had all year in nearly twice as many games. He also seems to be able to get off a good punt when we really need one. I don't mind a bad punt every now and then as long as the guy can deliver when it counts. That was the problem with Frost many times he could be just great but when we absolutely had to have a decent or great punt he would shank it or punt it 40 yards with no hang. Kapinos has shown he can lay down a good punt when its needed. I still remember that punt near the end of the game against Houston last year. We needed a great punt and Kapinos delivered. I think Kapinos is the punter at the start of the season and I hope at the end of the season. Last year was a mess on special teams.

Hentrich also spent a year on the Practice squad under Wolf and that was when the PS was smaller and only had 5 players on it.
