Any GM has good and bad deals and drafts picks, still the second rounder for Corey Williams seems like a steal.

I was very happy when TT traded him. I said that he was a overrated backup who flopped when pushed into a starting role in GB. Then he got overpaid by the Browns and did nothing there The guy is a career backup nothing more.

I remember him bashing the Packers organization when he got traded, seems like a Cledius Hunt sequel was avoided...

I don't see him taking a cut in pay

whoever trades for him will not pay him that wage he gets

maybe he could go to Detroit and play next to Gravy again.

Remember, last year many media pundits and posters opined that the loss of Williams in the DL rotation, especially once Jenkins was gone, was the reason the Packers had such a porous defense. Does anyone else remember that Williams was playing in a "contract year"- that he was playing for a new contract? TT wisely shipped him off to Cleveland, and clipped them for a second round pick. Good thinking.

Now, on to the present. Jolly is also playing large right now. No surprise, he is in in a "contract year". If he goes, I won't be surprised. And if he is a disappointment to his new team, I won't be surprised. If he could garner a second round pick- I'd say "Thank you, Raiders!"

Corey was a good reserve DT in the 4-3. He was not cut out to play in the 3-4.

Williams is a good pass rusher in the 4-3. But he was not stout enough against the run.

He also played well- really well- in 2007. In fact, when the guy is healthy he has been one of the better d-lineman on the team, then and now.

+1

And this was why he was traded. TT didn't want to pay top money for a situational guy, and I dont blame him.

Saw this on Rotoworld, thought it was interesting to see this happen in Cleveland, being I remember reading a lot of articles saying that he wasn't anything more than a part-time rotational guy, and that he didn't have the starter stuff.

Browns RE Corey Williams has lost his starting job to Robaire Smith.

Kenyon Coleman will start on the strong side. C.J. Mosley will also play in the end-by-committee situation. Williams will be a $39 million bench warmer.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, the fact that he was facing felony drug charges all of last season, not knowing what his off-field future would bring, probably didn't help his game too much. This season he probably more-or-less knows that he isn't going to prison.

Now, whether or not we should give a contract to somebody who is facing felony drug charges is a different debate altogether; and one that I'm sure we will be having as the season wears on.

Burned bridges when he left here, didn't he?

Agree. We got something for him from Cleveland. Would get nothing out of him as a retread.

If only we were able to use that 2nd round pick for a player worth a grain of salt. unsure.gif
