Which veterans will potentially be cut from another team that would be a good fit for the Packers?
JimATX
None, aging vets who are cut from another team provide no value from a business perspective.

That's not true. They can give people shopping carts at Walmart.

I'm not so sure I would agree with you guys. We're fairly likely to cut some veterans that could provide substantial value to someone else. There is a chance we could cut Wells and/or Moll on the offensive line both of which have been NFL starters. Poppinga is another guy I would have on my veteran watch list. He could start for a number of clubs. Kuhn and Bush are also on the bubble and both drew some interest as free agents. I really like Ruvell, but his job isn't exactly gauranteed this year.

All these guys are veterans, but none are ready for the retirement home yet. While I would doubt that all 6 will go, I gaurantee at least one will, and its pretty likely to be more than that.

We need to find a team that has alot of depth at a position of need. That's how we found Grant. What we need to look for is a team that is really deep at tight end or d-line, and take a look at what they are likely discarding.

GB has picked up some very valuable players off the waiver wires over the years - I wouldn't dream of discounting looking at this avenue. Good values can be had. Consider:

Corey Harris, Anthony Morgan, Jarrett Bush, John Kuhn

And amazingly valuable waiver wire pickups: Gilbert Brown, Ryan Longwell, Grady Jackson.

Desmond Howard came to GB's training camp in 96 as a UFA with no guarantees of even making the team after being released by Jacksonville after the 95 season.

Brown and Howard (and I suppose Beebe who came as a UFA too) were key valuable pieces to the 96 superbowl run.

Yes these two posts are more what I was getting at. The last few cuts of the preseason can often give you the best short and even long term free agent value.

The Packers will definitely be releasing some quality players this year, yet we could use some new blood as well. Who has a blocking tight end that's on the bubble?

Yep. Released 7/13.

Stick a fork in Bubba, he's done.

About the only thing you're likely to get from Training Camp roster cut pickups are really young guys who might develop down the road and maybe someone who can help out on special teams.

I think that we'll be able to find a decent #3 TE after final cut downs. . . possibly even before then. Chicago seems to have some depth at the position. Denver as well. All it takes is one decent pickup to make a difference. I think that they might pick up a TE from somewhere. Who that might be, I have no idea.
