2000
Rnd Name College Note
1 Bubba Franks Miami (FL)
2 Chad Clifton Tennessee
3 Steve Warren Nebraska
4 Na'il Diggs Ohio State
4 Anthony Lucas Arkansas
4 Gary Berry Ohio State
5 Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila San Diego State
5 Joey Jamison Texas Southern
7 Mark Tauscher Wisconsin
7 Ron Moore NW Oklahoma State
7 Charles Lee Central Florida
7 Eugene McCaslin Florida
7 Rondell Mealey Louisiana State

This was a very good draft with five players having long successful careers but the last year has been brutal to the class:

First KGB cannot recover from injuries and is released bearly in the 2008 season.

Second Tauscher sustains a possible career ending injury later in the 2008 season.

Third Franks is released from the NY Jets just recently.

Fourth Dggs faces stiff competion not only for his starting spot but to make the team in Carolina.

Fifth Clifton is in the last year of his contract and could be his last year in a Packer unifom.

On the other hand the other eight draftees from this class wish they had had a small iota of the sucess the above five players have had in the NFL.

This class also points out that success can be had at any draft position see highlighjted players and their draft spot above.

Although to be fair Lucas and Warrens short career was dogged by injury and Lee didn have a six year career with three different teams.

And Mealey did play three seasons for the Packers hs first on IR.

Injuries are the killer of NFL careers.

Gary Berry's career was ended very early by a serious injury. He might have become a very good safety.

Just goes to show that 9 years is a LIFETIME in the NFL. I'm encouraged by several of our older players like Woodson, Harris, Clifton and Driver. All seem to have avoided hitting the wall thus far and look to be key players for the team in 2009.

Joey Jamison... now there's a blast from the past...such a bad pick in the midst of all those good picks...shows how even a good draft is a gamble to a degree...

Jamison was the original Cory Rodgers...a return man who couldn't actually return kicks.

Steve Warren is the same story.

I remember talking to my late uncle about how promising those guys looked. Then it was all over for them. sad.gif
