The staff at the Brett Favre Steakhouse in GB had better be checking the wanted adds. I have a feeling business will be going down once Brett is wearing the purple.

Favre never/rarely played good in the dome. One year, his overthrows were blamed on the curvature of the field. I am sure that did not change...

Ofcourse, but how else are we supposed to predict how he will play in Minnesota? You said that he rarely played well there, and the stats show that in the 2nd half of his career, he has played well.

A lot of Packer fans are saying he will flop in Minnesota and become the INT machine. I think that POV is possible, but his recent history in the metrodome and domes in general shows that may not be the case. I certainly hope the Packers don't overlook him like some of the posters here are.

That's interesting, Bob.

My feeling is that, if a healthy Brett Favre plays for the Vikings and has a healthy AD behind him, a lot of Packer fans (and Bears and Lions fans) will learn to fear him pretty quick.

I also follow the NBA pretty close, and I'm a Detroit Pistons fan. I love having the Cavs in the same division (and I loved having the Pacers when they were elite, and the Bulls when they were amazing) because my feeling is that, if you have top-notch division rivals and you can still hang with them, then the playoffs won't seem as tough.

I welcome Brett in Minny, and I'm excited to see what the Bears do with Cutler, because if we can win the division with two Pro Bowl QBs playing us twice a year, then playoff football won't seem so tough to our defense (assuming we make the playoffs, which I think we will, regardless of what Brett decides to do).

I'll never forget Brett throwing a TD in the Super Bowl and running around with his helmet in the air, like a little kid. I'm with Luvda ... I still don't care. Brett will do what's best for his interests, and the Packers will do what's best for their interests. We have a very good, very young QB, and we PICKED HIM over our legendary QB. I honestly don't know why some people are ready to hold a grudge.

I've lost almost all respect for that idiot.
chewdog
The whole thing with Favre's record on turf is pretty much completely contrived for several reasons:

1. The quarterback doesn't win games, the team wins games, and in the 90's their teams were a bit on the slow side, so they were built for grass. This changed in the 2000's by drafting faster players.
2. They don't play the stadium, they play a team. And those teams were often A. the Vikings who had their number for many years B. The Lions who were descent enough to win a few home games at least in the 90's or C. the Cowboys who also had their number for many years.
3. A few tough luck losses and a small sample size and you get a stigma about a guy who can't perform on turf or in domes. And maybe at this point its at least in his head that he needs to prove himself on turf.

And an on-topic contribution: Apparently he doesn't enjoy mowing the lawn as much as everyone thinks, or otherwise he would have bought a house with a large yard.

Technically that's true. However, some folks believe that the whole "I retire...I want to play...No I don't...Yes I do"
issue was a strategy to force GB to release him so he could go play for the Vikings in '08, and that he kept up the game until GB finally said they had to move on. Had Favre not waffled over and over, it is likely he would have been the Packers' QB in '08. If that is truly what happened, you can certainly understand why people might hold a grudge against Favre for attempting to manipulate his way out of GB just to play against them for revenge.

Good catch. Dallas had that exeragted curvature sideline to sideline on the field. Gave Favre fits especially early in the game when he was a little too pumped and had the natural tendancy to over throw. Minny was pure noise.

In most years we split with the Vikings. I don't see the addition of Brett changing that much.

I think Brett will play fine in MN and they will win 9-11 games.

If Brett continues to get hit as much as he has the past few years he will get hurt. I don't want to see him go off in a stretcher, but if he continues to play...at some point it is inevitable.

I just wish Brett would have chosen some other team to keep playing. Any place but a NFCN location and I would have had no problem with it.
Ultimately, if we split...like I predict and expect...his presence won't make that much of a difference.

BLF wanted to go to MN not long after Sherman got fired. He finally now has what TT wouldn't give him but NY did --> his unconditional release so he could get out of his present contract and go to MN. Now all he has to do is get his arm healed. He'll sign with the queens at the end of TC.

Vikings won't take him if he is not there for all of TC. You can't sign a guy and then play him as your starting QB a week or two later after missing every single mini camp and TC.

If he is going to play for the Vikings this year, I'm sure he will be there in time for Training camp. My guess is that he just doesn't want to attend all the other summertime stuff like OTA's and whatnot.

I can certainly understand your point but I would just like to mention that the Jet's did this with Favre last year. Plus in my opinion the Vikings wanting Favre has way more to do with the business aspect of it (ticket and merchandise sales, fan support, media exposure) than actually helping the team get more wins.

Favre I think missed like a week of TC with the Jets. Also to Favre's own admission it made it hard to catch up. Though I hope he does just sign a week before the season because Favre will be so behind he will suck and be laughed at more as he plays so bad.
philh64

I think Jets' training camp started like July 24th last year and Favre was traded August 7th or somewhere in there and then didn't practice for a few days after he was traded. He still got in a few preseason games though but did miss significant practice time. I still think he will be a Viking this year, and although he missed all the OTA's and minicamps, I would be willing to bet that he has had a Viking playbook to study since he agreed to have the surgery. I think he will be there for training camp but probably not right away.

I am surprised that Favre would live in a condo.

He probably has enough cash left over to buy a private home, espeacially in this housing market.

He seems like the type that would like his privacy. (private locker room and all)

Most of all, it would probably kill him to watch the maintenance crew mow his lawn.

He is only going to be there a season so why buy a house just to re-sell it a year later. I also doubt he is living in a $200K condo I am willing to bet it is a top end condo that is very private.

Most of all, it would probably kill him to watch the maintenance crew mow his lawn.

Maybe Deanna pursuaded him? I use to live in that neck of the woods. (26 years ago) Most of the Vikings and Twins live around there. It is handy to downtown and shopping and their training facility, so in that regard, it makes sense.

BTW- glad to see you back. You dropped out for like a year. Hope all is well.

He is only going to be there a season so why buy a house just to re-sell it a year later.

Wait until he starts tossing picks. He may be there less than a year once the Queenie fans start riding him. They've hated him for so many years it would not take much for them to turn on him. If he stinks it up out there, what will Chilly do? Bench him? The ol' man would leave himself rather than ride the bench. I'd laugh if he was the backup for the Packers game! tongue.gif
