Thanks for that. I took that it will be a several week kind of rehab and then test of the injury to see if its a go. Sounds like the Vikes are ok with this time frame.

"ESPN, citing a source close to Favre, said Andrews and Favre talked about exercises that would accelerate the tendon tearing completely. That would likely allow Favre to play without pain or surgery.

But if the tendon fails to tear, it is uncertain whether Favre will undergo the relatively minor surgery it would take to make that happen. Favre might balk at the three- to six-week rehabilitation window for that surgery.

I would bet that if it doesn't tear completly with those exercises, that will be painful, it's over

The thing that chaps my backside on this whole fiasco
For 4 years the Packers practically begged him to come back, Now it seems like he will do anything to get back and play. The irony rolleyes.gif

"If it goes well, Farve, who will turn 40 in October, is expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings."

Well, this can't be correct. Bus Cook told us that Favre is staying retired. If you can't trust Bus Cook, who can you trust? sad.gif

Long way to go folks. No guarantee that releasing the tendon fixes the pain. Looks like this won't end until at least training camp. ( Like that hasn't been said before.)

Truthfully I hope the surgery is not succesfull. That way it will prevent him from coming back and making a huge mess that will cause hatred on both sides for a long time.
Lare
If Favre is having this surgery, everyone needs to realize he's doing it for one reason and that's so he can come back and play, most probably for the Vikings.

Brett's making his bed for whatever childish reasons he feels necessary. Let him lie in it.

Brett Favre will meet with renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday in Alabama to discuss surgery on his throwing shoulder expected to be performed later this week, the St. Paul Pioneer Press has reported.

The report further indicates Favre's intent to consider signing with the Minnesota Vikings despite announcing his retirement with the New York Jets after last season.

Plus the 2 month rehab gives him a legit reason to skip training camp.

I agree Lare. Every year this BS has gone on I have become less and less a fan of Favre. Now if he plays for the Vikes I am no longer a fan of his its game on, as Irvin said..

The thing I don't understand is how the the NFL can let Favre manipulate the system to basically become a free agent despite a contract with the Jets. I think it sets a bad precedent.

The J E T S JETS JETS JEST released him making him an unrestricted free agent. They didn't want to go through the same drama the Packers did the year before.
IBleedGreen&Gold
I understand the legalities KC, it just seems like manipulation to me. Is it possible this was discussed up front when the Jets signed him? I know that is tin foil hat stuff but man, it seems like it.

Nothing would surprise me my friend. I usually stay away from such topics, but I have had a bad day. dry.gif

Even if the surgery doesn't make him feel good enough to play, the intent was still there, so that is enough for me. If the surgery is unsuccessful, I wouldn't be surprised to hear a cover up by Bus........"Everyone blew this way out of proportion; Brett was going to have this surgery so he could throw to his grandkids some day. He is still and has been retired. I was not aware of any talks with any team."

If the surgery is successful, I think we all know he will be wearing purple in the fall. In that case I hope Caper's 3-4 scheme includes aggressive blitzing.

If it happens, just imagine home much the ticket brokers will be getting for tickets to Lambeau when the VIkes come. It will probably even get better TV ratings than any other playoff game outside of the SB.

In theory; but I could see the Vikes (if they sign him after the surgery) saying they want to take it easy and give the old man a break. I just dont see them putting him through a full training camp. He will get treated with kid gloves by Childress for sure.

I remember Ron Dayne saying when he was always at the bottom of the pile people would grab twist and pull what ever they could. So maybe Raji or Matthews gives his arm a grab twist and pull but Favre has already had that done to him a bunch of time I bet.

Or maybe it's "To consult Dr. Andrews or not to consult Dr. Andrews"

Favre Doesn't Want Surgery

Which, without even following the link, is obviously the ESPN story Greg Bedard refers to in this morning's blog:
QUOTE (Greg Bedard)
But once again, another report disputes that story. ESPN's Ed Werder, who has had access to Favre previously in the offseason, said there is no appointment scheduled for today and that surgery is not imminent. Favre would rather try to get the partial tear to release by non-surgical options, or by his own prodding with cortisone injections, biceps curls or light throwing. Werder said: "If the tendon releases and the pain subsides, Favre is virtually certain to play again. If he has surgery and his arm strength diminishes or the pain remains, he will remain retired, the source said."

This backs up Favre's sentiments a few months ago, when he retired from the New York Jets and said that he wasn't willing to have surgery to keep playing.

The source told ESPN that Favre would play for the Vikings and participate in all the offseason work and training camp if the pain in the shoulder diminished. But here's another interesting part of Werder's report: "Either way, Favre is losing patience, causing the source to say the shoulder problem must be overcome soon or Favre is likely to abandon his effort to play a 19th NFL season."

It's all sort of like that display I saw when I was young in an exhibition on illusion in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. It was a small, wall mounted set of pipes, as I recall, which played an ever ascending tonal scale that never rose above human hearing range. I stood by that thing for, oh, must have been around 15 minutes, and the notes, thousands of them, just kept climbing the scales. It utterly baffled me.

Mr. Miyagi would not have been much help--he's just as indecisive...

"Wax on. Wax off."

Mr Miyagi would should him the proper arm motions to tear that tendon off lickety-split. Brett would be good as new in no time.

Mr. Miyagi would just rub his hands together and then place them on Brett's booboo and he would be healed!
