Full Version: Favre's Future

Just got the news that Brett told Herr Weasel that he is staying reitred (that is, at least for the meantime!!!)

My post topic is simply to ask what your initial reaction to this news was, and also to ask what your current predictions/dreams are now as to how this "As the Favre Turns" drama will unfold in the next 6 months, 2 years, etc.? If you, like me, are incapable of even making any predictions, given it is Favre we're talking about, then what would be your wish/dream for Favre in the future?

Ok, I'll of course give you mine for starters...

Initial Reaction to this news:

1) Surprise that he decided to stay retired
2) No surprise that such a decision was qualified with a "for the meantime"
3) Having the wind taken out of my sails in terms of having now embraced the idea of Favre playing for the Viqueens in order to see him get some sense knocked into him by getting the wind knocked out of him via the Packers blitzkrieging the daylight out of him and beehatch-slapping the Viqueens by a score of at least 60-0.

Current Predictions:

1) Who the heck can know? Ok, I only can predict that at least one point in time Favre will don "flip flops".

Good Dreams/Wishes for His Future:

1) Favre publicly repents (i.e., publicly confesses that even if he felt TT did him wrong, nevertheless, his behavior/statements were uncalled for and that he is sorry and asks for forgiveness); TT and McCarthy also again offer a token apology for any and all ways they could've handled things better with Favre (even if they really did the best they could do for Favre and the team without ignoring upstanding principles like team-first, or of not suddenly benching the guy you just named starting QB simply for the pragmatic rationale that the guy who wants to suddenly unretire and immediately be starter and refuses to hold a clipboard for awhile may be the better starting qb. But you get my point.)

2) The Packer Family (that includes us fans) simply responds by immediately and unconditionally forgiving him, perhaps demonstrating such by some type of public way

3) The Packers still hold open the invitation of letting him come back this coming year and/or in some future year in some sort of capacity with the Packers organization, such as the marketing deal offer.

My sick, naughty dream:

3b) That Favre kept himself in shape, healed up, and Aaron Rodgers unexpectedly contracts a non-contagious, recoverable-but-long lasting strain of the Swine Flu in this coming preseason, and won't be ready to go again as starter until the 3rd game into the season, and TT/McCarthy ask Favre to come back as the starting quarterback for the first two games, thus getting that consecutive game streak record that you know both he AND US(!) wish he could hold. And finally, as a way of true atonement for the past, that when Rodgers is ready to go again as starter for game 3 of this season, Favre either gracefully retires for good and/or willingly and HONORABLY holds a clipboard for Rodgers for the rest of the season as his backup, gladly returning the favor to Rodgers who held it 3 years for him. (Something which in my opinion Favre should have done last year, rather than self-centered, insensitive "I aint gonna hold a clipboard for Rodgers!" statement last year; especially considering that Rodgers had that shoulder injury by game 4 last year which could've been enough justification for McCarthy to put Favre back in as the starter.)

Ok, 3b is naughty because I do love Rodgers no less than Favre, being no less Packer family now that Brett Favre was. I don't really wish to see Rodgers get a Swine Flu, but rather simply wish the impossible of seeing atonement for Favre and reconciliation with the whole Packer family (which includes us fans). Hey, I can dream, can't I?

4) That if at least points #1 and #2 come true (#3b being a bonus, albeit naughty to think) given the past and present (!) lessons we've learned about Favre, we neither retire the #4 jersey nor unretire it. Rather, we mandate that every future Packer's starting quarterback, (perhaps Rodgers included if he is willing to do it), must don a #4 jersey for each and every game he is the starter or replacement for an injured starter during a game (requiring a league rules change I suspect). For reasons that being the Iron Man that Favre is (both physically and also in stubborness of heart, lol), we never know when he might suddenly decide to unretire again, say 50, 100 years from now; also for reason that there would be no better way of upholding/promoting remembrance of the greatest quarterback to have ever played for the Packers, if not also the greatest football player to have ever played the game period.

So what are yours regarding Favre now?

My thoughts are I enjoyed watching him play tremendously and wished the end of his career with Green Bay would have ended much differently for all parties concerned. He can do what ever he wants and I wish nothing but the best for him, his family, and the GBP.

Through all this back and forth over the last year re: Favre and GB I learned how truly UN-important FB is in the grand scheme of life. People bicker and argue about something they have no control over. It makes friends become almost enemies, cheers turn to jeers, and our camelot not quite as perfect. No matter what side 'you took' it is too bad all this BS took place. TT is not the antichrist and neither is Favre. It is time to move on....time for me to take down the 'fire TT' stuff....time for Favre to be embraced by the GBP.

Here is too a good 09' season.

I agree. Nice post. Now back it up and start the healing by taking down the "fire TT" sig.
