They are supposed to get a 7th from us next year so if he does come back then do they not get it because they cut him and he did come back?
EDIT: Meant the vikings typo me bad if a Mod would fix it much apperciated.

Good question. I would certainly think that no return draft choice would be necessary if he is still playing. I thought the deal was that if he is retired, then the return pick would be in play.
If he goes to the Vikings, how could they still be entitled to that pick? After all, you can't be retired and playing at the same time.

Good question.
Here's a prediction too - I think Minnesota will be required (by Goodell) to give the Jets a pick. There needs to be some precedent set here, we can't have players retiring, asking for they're release and then up and signing with another team. I hope Roger the Hammer sees how fishy this is in how it went down and says "OK Brett, Minnesota, I'll reinstate you but Minnesota owes the Jets pick X"

Shoot...as long as we're going there the Packers should receive some sort of compensation because as things appear now it's as plain as day that there was indeed some sort of inappopriate tampering between some member(s) of the Vikings and Brett Favre while he was still under contract with the Packers.

Packers filed a complaint on that last year it was looked at by the NFL and they said there was no tampering. Though I would not be shocked if the Jets ask the NFL to look into a tampering charge.

Exactly. And that's why I think Goodell will compensate the Jets with a draft pick before it ever gets to that. He doesn't want another circus like last year.

Vikings should owe the Jets, and the Jets should owe the Packers. The comish needs to step in. These contracts and provisions become meaningless when a player can just manipulate "retirement" like this. I mean FFS, he's done it two years in a row.

Jets gave the Packers a 3rd the Packers are owed nothing. But I doubt the Jets get anything as they agreed to cut him. They knew he had interest in coming back and they did not want him nor go thru what the Packers went thru so they dumped him to avoid the soap "As Brett Flip Flops" coming to NY.

I know the NFL already made the ruling about that tampering charge last year, but in light of how everything is playing out now with the Vikings, it sure looks like TT was right.
If Brett does indeed go to the Vikings, I think Mark Murphy needs to have a closed door meeting with Goodell and share some strong words. Maybe we can get a "make-up call" or two, like with Jolly's suspension, or with free agency compensatory picks or something.

I was thinking the other day that it would be kind of funny if the commish refused to reinstate Favre. But it would be even funnier if he made the Vikings compensate the Packers with draft picks. Very unlikely, but it would be funny.

My understanding was the Jets only got the pick if Favre retired.
Technically, they cut him, instead of allowing him to remain on their retired players list.
Seems pretty cut-and-dried that Favre is not the Jets "retired" property (playing for the Vikings is not retired), so, they cannot lay claim to any compensation from GB.
For sure, Goodell can't allow a team to be compensated for an acquired player's retirement, and then let the player come back three months later with another team.
