Do not retire his jersey until after his HOF induction and maybe wait another year or 2 for that ceremony.

Second
Rescind that ridiculous PR offer made by Murphy to Brett. By signing with Minn, he has ruined all of his PR appeal. He has never been much of a PR person even when he played in Green Bay. He didn't come to GB much at all during his career in the off season.

By playing with Minn, he is doing this for revenge against TT, MM and the whole Packer Nation. I am a Packer fan and not a Favre fan. I support anybody who plays the Packers and who works for the Packers.
luv that team
If he does play in Minn, he is only doing it to stick it to the Packers. If he says the reason he is coming back is to play, is because he enjoys it, why didn't he stick with the Jets.

Not sure. Maybe because they released him.

They released him for 3 reasons.

1. He asked for it
2. He retired a second time
3. He asked for it again after they just drafted Sanchez.

If you remove yourself from all emotion, I would say with the new coaching staff in New York a new system and the Jets being at the cap with Fave's salary. That would be the biggest reason for not playing in NY. The queens have a great RB, a good OL and a few ok recievers. Brett knows the offense so yes it is resonable for him to consider it. Obviously he hates TT and M3 not Packer Nation.

Emotion back, on Welcome back 76, To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you last posted,
But those dreams for the playoffs have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya Here where we need ya

Yeah we tease 76 a lot cause we've hot him on the spot, welcome back, welcome back.

While I agree if he goes to the Vikings he should never get the marketing deal again. I would also wait till the HOF to do everything for him with the Packers as if you do it right away there will be to many raw feelings on both sides esp if Favre comes back has success with the Vikings and then has the ha I told you so you can honor me now. That would not go well with the team or the fans. But if Favre falls flat on his face he will be hurt and embarrsed to show up. So 5 years would allow both sides to move on.

Can we be done with this already? Favre was already with two other teams, the Falcons and the Jets. Why get your undies in a bundle because he might play with the Vikings? WHO CARES?!?

A man retires from his job then changes his mind. His spot has since been filled.

The employer has the right to employ whoever they choose.

The man goes to work for a different employer, a competitor of his original employer.

The man has a right to ply his trade with an employer of his choice.

Remember, Forest Gregg retired 5 (FIVE) times.

We (Packers) no longer wanted Farve to play for us, so if he wants to continue playing it would have to for someone else.

So be it and good luck to him and to the Packers.

You can't compare a sports career to a job in an office building. The presence of the fans changes everything. If you care about your fans, you don't play for a team for 15+ years and then go to that team's biggest archrival.

Sure you can! Remember, Green Bay traded him away so he could still be here. The Packers moved on. He has every right to play for anybody that will take him on their team.

To a lot of players (if not all of them), football is a business and the "fan loyalty" to player XYZ, no matter how long he played for a team, just does not apply.

Maybe Favre wants another ring.........???

I think for many, him considering going to the Vikings is the straw that broke the camel's back. Remember that this is the culmination of years of Favre drama dating back at least to when Favre tried to leverage his return to try to force TT to be more active in the offseason (ie Randy Moss). And it probably goes back farther than that.

For years you've heard Chmura saying "this isn't the guy you think he is. This is a very selfish individual" So what, right? That guy has no credibility after the things he's done. Then LeRoy Butler insinuates some of the same things. Says we don't know the half of it. And he's well respected. Then you hear about his special lockerroom, and some of the comments from his Jets teammates. The Greta interview. The Randy Moss thing. The skipping of offseason team activities. The Mooch thing. The Rodgers snubbing. And now the Vikings thing.

Eventually it's hard not to come to the realization that a player I once admired is considerably less than I thought he was. The little kid in me who idolizes his sports heros can't help but be disappointed.

I don't think Favre is the problem. I think WE have the problem for assuming, or at least wanting to assume, that Favre cares enough about his legacy among Packer fans to let it affect the length of his playing career. A seemingly overlooked fact is that there is only one team in the league that wants him right now. So if he wants to play, the Vikes are his only option. Granted, some of the reason the Vikes want him probably has to do with the fact that HE wants THEM so he can "stick it to Ted", but still... take out the Packer-Vikings rivalry and it's a perfect football match.

However, that last half sentence is the real sticking point with fans, isn't it? I would really like to think that Brett would make a big statement about integrity and really solidify his legend status by staying retired rather than playing what would essentially be a meaningless year with the most hated rival of the franchise he represented for nearly two decades. That's what I want him to do; that's what I think would be the "bigger man" step. What I think many need to realize is that Favre has no interest in that. He's interested in being an NFL player like everyone else in the league, not the face of Packer football. Yes, I think it's absolute shite, but that's not my decision. I think it's the absolute wrong one, but it's his to make.

Even though I predicted this would happen for the past 4 months, I found it a tough pill to swallow these past few days. The shock of it dissipates, though, when you take the guy off the pedestal and stop expecting anything more from him than you would a run of the mill FA.

This is exactly how I see it. For the most part, team loyalty in pro sports just doesn't exist any longer. As much as we'd like Brett to want to remain loyal to the fans that have adored him for so many years, it's just not realistic to think that he, or most any of these guys, think that way or care to the point that it will be a major factor in their decision making.

It's a job, and one that Brett thinks he can still do effectively. We'll see, I guess. If he's coming back to spite TT, however, he's even more of a child that we thought before.

That perspective is quite correct, imo.

I think that is what is maddening to many PACKER FANS. After what Brett has meant to THE PACKER NATION, it is a thorny issue for PACKER FANS to just shrug thier shoulders and say; "OK, Brett is not only a nobody but a most hated nobody at that."

Difficult pill to swallow.

Can't say for sure, but I think most will come to this conclusion eventually.

What should happen?

- We should all enjoy the entertainment of this amazing circus sideshow.

- Some of you should grow up. Brett Favre doesn't love you like you love him. Accept that fact.

- Revel in the games vs. MN this year. It will be very fun to watch. #4 can't harm the Packers, he's too old and broken down, so, quit being afraid of it and buckle up for what looks like a thrill ride of a season.

- We should expect that Vikings fans will be very disappointed when their QB leads the league in INT's.

I would prefer that he just fade away like a good old soldier. But it seems like he won't. I was able to get over the trade to the Jets because it was a different conference, they weren't on our schedule and we'd get some sort of compensation in the draft.

While it will be me difficult to see him in a Vikings uniform, maybe the baby step of playing for the Jets will help us all ease into the next transistion.

Like others here have stated, my first loyalty as a fan is to the Packers. Brett Favre was a major factor in bringing the Packers back to prominence and was always fun to watch and root for - for those reasons, I will always be a Brett Favre fan. I live too far away to be at Lambeau when the Vikings come to play, but if I was and BF was there playing for the Vikings, I certainly wouldn't boo him. I'd give him some cheers when first introduced and then spend the rest of the game cheering for the Packers.

Even if I remove all the Packer emotion from this, I still come to one conclusion. Favre is not a Jet because he retired from the team. Maybe if he didn't retire they would have released him for the reasons you state but truth be told - Favre decided to retire, he is the driving force in this whole situation.

that is a load of whooey. The packers did not want to play for them anymore. If he still wants to play, even for stupid. misguided, and vindictive reasons he can do so.

fans lose sight of the fact FB is a business.
