He was a great quarterback, but Jets fans will remember him as two faced and disingenuous - a total phony.

Thought it was interesting to read a completely different perspective -- there's a lot more in the comments section as well. This wasn't an angle I'd considered.

New Yorkers? displeased?

Someone alert the press.

He wanted to play for the Pack. They said no. His 2nd, and really only other preference was the Vikes. Packers said no. He got traded to the Jets. What was he going to do, say, "thanks, but no thanks..they kind of suck and I hate New York" ?

I'm not saying it wasn't Favre's fault for what's happened. Not at all. But if people couldn't see this coming a mile away....

That is interesting. It is also similar to the way some Packer fans here feel about him.

New Yorkers like their heroes pure and genuine, like Ruth, Mantle, and Jeter. The ARod's and Favre's get seen through like a plate glass window. They hide behind a facade and get called out, while the typical Packer fan stands in awe admiring the facade.
If thats your thing, more power to ya, but other than the initial jersey sales, the Favre act didnt go so well in New York with the fans.

REALLY?

The act was fine when they were 8-3 and before he was injured, I think that was well after the initial jersey sales

You also might want to take comments by Jets teammates into consideration.

Apparently, Mangini didnt think it was fine in late October, at that point he had 8 picks in his last 4 games.

I liked this quote as well:

"This obsession for playing in the Packers' division, haunting his old team, hasn't waned. It looks like the Jets became a pawn in the latest Favre soap opera."

Go ahead and lay the final nail, Favre. I heard one our punters wants the #4 anyway.

Really, if you look at Favre's last year it breaks down like this:

1 Great/out of his head game: 9/28, 6 TD, 1 Int, 123.7 Rating
4 Very good games: 9/7, 11/9, 11/13, 11/23 - 7 TD, 1 Int
2 Average games (between 80 and 100 passer rating): 9/14, 9/21 - 4 TD, 3 Int
11 Bad games (Below 80 passer rating): 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/02, 11/30, 12/07, 12/14, 12/21, 12/28 - 5 TD, 17 Int

He played very well to average in the first 4 games, bad the next 4, very good the next 3, and bad the last 5.

He had a bad stretch before the injury near the end of the year.

It's funny, I was actually thinking about this topic this morning. Obviously we on this board all know how Packers fans feel about this, but I hadn't heard much talk about Jets fans. I wouldn't expect them to be as (we'll call it) passionate as Packers fans are on this subject, but I had imagined the general feeling among them would be one of displeasure. He basically used them for a year, cost them a draft pick, ran Pennington out of town (maybe not so bad now that they drafted Sanchez, but there's no way to know that yet), possibly got their coach fired, etc. I'm not surprised at all that New Yorkers have a bitter taste in their mouth from the Favre experience.

You are right. My bad. I must have been sleeping that day the covered addition in Math class. tongue.gif

When exactly - in what game - did Favre hurt his bicep? I thought it was during that last game when he tried to tackle a Dolphin DB who just intercepted one of his passes...? I've been hearing conflicting reports.

I knew something wasn't right because he listed a total of 18 games. I just didn't feel like putting in the work to figure out was wrong. smile.gif

The thing is that Pennington played better than Favre did.

I mean if you wanted to sell T shirts fine.

But as for the team, Pennington would probably have been better.

THen they would not have had to draft Sanchez so high and give so many picks away or lost the number three.

Of course, without that Jets #3 pick we probably wouldn't have had the ammunition to move up for Clay Matthews, so thanks Brett!
I don't think the Jets fans are really bent out of shape over the whole thing. Mangini was on his way out anyway, they didn't have a legit team last year, and while Pennington played well for the Dolphins, his career in the Jets was so-so.

This whole Favre Watch thing is just a product of how super awesome the NFL is and how little to talk about there is between the draft and training camp.

The annual Favre watch is good fodder for discussion this time of year. Other than the NBA playoffs, there isn't much to talk about sprtwise this time of year.

Actually, I think New York and the current Brett Favre were kind of a perfect match. They all seem to think the world revolves around them.

In that regard, they deserved each other.

there have been some reports that say that hes had this injury for a couple years. Somthing about crystalized fragments or somthing that only form in an injury after a year+. Personally i think it had alot more to do with him just playing bad or wearing down then the injury

If I were a Jets fan, I'd be worried about the overall direction of the franchise. Giving up a draft pick for Favre can probably be forgiven. Most fans were good with it at the time and Favre was coming off a very good season. It was probably worth the gamble. But their aggressive actions in the offseason are enough to make Daniel Schneider hang his head in shame. I think they had 3 draft choices is this year's draft. Now they're looking at Pacman? It will be interesting to see how this approach works out for them. My guess is, not very well.

True, but they did play on different teams. And, they've been trying to ditch Pennington for years, anyway. He's a good guy; well-liked by his teammates and a consumate professional, but when both guys were healthy, Pennington couldn't make the type of throws Favre could. Granted, Pennington was VERY efficient last year, and I thought he deserved a Pro-Bowl spot personally, but I think for the long-term, Sanchez would have been drafted even if Pennington was still a Jet.
