He can do whatever he wants. I'm not scared. What is he trying to prove? If he goes through with it, it will only highlight his immaturity. Rodgers equalled his production last year so in my book, the Pack made the right call. Rodgers proved he is a good QB and looks to be the Packers franchise QB. I don't see what Favre can do to get revenge. It would take Favre getting to the Super Bowl and winning to prove the Pack wrong. Call me skeptical on that happening. This year after year retirement waffling is on the verge of becoming comical. If anything he is only proving the Packers right for finally cutting ties with him. You can't build a team around a QB who isn't sure if he wants to play football for like half a decade.

This is happening like it or not.

Pretty much.

See this is what rubs me the wrong way about Favre. Didnt he just get done telling Trent Dilfer in a text that he isnt coming back? But now he is going to meet with the Vikings.... why? If he is retired why would he have any business with the Vikings?

Look I have no problem with the man playing for whatever team he wants but dont do this garbage in the media. If you want to play for the Vikings just say it and own it. I just dont understand and if he really doesnt know if he wants to play then he needs to just come out and say hey I really dont know what I want to do, but in the mean time I will listen to teams and their offers' and see if I want to play for them.

All this stuff is just making me hope more and more that he goes to Minn and Green Bay picks him off like 10 times. And if he happens to twist an ankle in the game that wouldnt be so bad either, not to wish injury on anyone but Favre is making it hard not to on him.
Lare
I'm guessing they're meeting to discuss the playbook. If his arm is healthy, I can't believe there is any question at this point that Brett Favre is going to be a Viking.
Cocoman
This is the part of the story that made me laugh out loud.

While Favre had been emphatic about not returning next season, he never anticipated the Jets would release him after drafting Mark Sanchez in the first round and could see the Vikings as the opportunity to fulfill the goal he was deprived of last season -- winning a Super Bowl.

Didn't he ask to be released twice?

1. this sucks. there's no getting around that.

2. i hope Woodson, Harris, Collins, Bigby, etc. have their hands ready.
JimATX
This will not end well for Favre or Childress. Which sucks because that might mean that Chilly will be looking for a new job and the vikes may actually get a real coach next year.
PackerBacker420
I will always love Brett for what he has done for our organization....but, if he does indeed go to the hated Vikings...I will be rooting for B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Cullen Jenkins, and Clay Matthews to break him in half....................Okay, maybe break in half is too strong, just knocked out of the game. angry.gif

Concur.

I had hoped for one or two more seasons with the Chump calling the shots.

Get over it folks. Its a free world and the guy can do what he wants. Wishing injury on him is pathetic and uncalled for.

I was assuming the dust would settle, time would pass, and all would be forgiven. Maybe not. If Favre plays for the Vikes he is no longer just sticking it to TT, he's sticking it to the city of Green Bay and all Packer fans.

If he actually goes through with this, my Favre poster is officially coming down never to grace my walls again.

Back when I was seven or eight, my cub scout troop went on a camping trip. This was the first time that I'd ever really been away from home for a couple of days, the first time I'd ever really been camping. I was all gung-ho to go right up until it was almost time to leave, then I freaked out and faked sick so I could stay home.

So we go back home, and immediately I'm regretting my choice. I sat by the window, hoping the scout master would swing by and give me one last chance to go. After a while, I was actively angry that he didn't -- I wanted to go so badly, I can still remember how frustrating it was. It wasn't fair of him not to come give me a second chance, right? He must have known I was faking sick.

Of course, I was being immature about it (hey, I *was* seven). It wasn't anyone's fault but my own; I was experiencing the outcome of my own decisions. It was a pretty good object lesson.

Favre... *sigh*... please don't do it...

He tarnishes himself in a very major way if he goes through with this, and I just couldn't be a fan of his anymore.

Whats pathetic is a near 40 year that is acting like a 12 year old. Crying until he gets what he wants, awhile trying to make it seem like he isnt to blame at all, or doesnt know whats going on.

Like I said before I would have more respect for the man if he just owned it (like Jim Rome says). He wants to play then say it. You want to play for the Vikes say it. You hate Ted and the Packers just say it. Not this one day say Im reitred and the next visit the Vikings or say "At this time" bs. If he was just honest and forward with everyone I would have zero problem with this, it would suck and I would hate to see it happen but its not unheard of in the NFL.

Personally this just proves to me that the guy is worried about his legacy, throwing alot of stuff out there and judge the reaction. If its too negative he will go back to Mississippi if its not too bad he will keep up his childish revenge quest against Ted and sign with the Vikes.

I dont wish injury on the guy but if he happen to get injuried while playing against the packers I wouldnt be the least bit upset, I mean injuries are apart of the game....
DWhitehurst
As I and others have said before, I think the only way this is gonna get settled for good is on the field. So given Favre's behavior the past year and half up to the present, far from "begging" Favre to stay retired, enough is enough. I'm begging for him to play for the Vikings just to watch the Packers beat him with his own "stick"--the one he wants to "stick it to Ted" with. I have enough faith in the Packers to think that given the situation and bad blood, they will leave it all, and I mean ALL, on the field when they play the Vikings, and they will win those games.

Favre is lost....ending up with a weasel like Childress. Sad, very sad. But the time for the high road class is over. Time to open up a serious can of Green and Gold Whoop A*S...If he simply won't give it up, we'll have to help him do so.

Really? Because I think the exact opposite. I dont think he cares about his legacy and thats why he's doing this. Clearly he doesnt give a damn about the Packers org. or retiring as a Packer.

I guess they are still saying Favre has not had the surgery done yet. If he has it now would it not make him miss pretty much all of the camps till TC which is what Favre may have planned since he is lazy about going to them. Also you have to wonder instead of Brett Lorenzo Favre if it is Brett Liar Favre with him and Cook lately seeming they say one thing the next day and the next they are saying something different. Favre tells Dilfer he is no interest in coming back and Cook says Favre got released so he can retire a Packer. Now Favre is meeting with Minny. I just wish Favre would be honest and say yeah I asked to be relased because I know I am not in the Jets plans but I want to play and want to play for the Vikings so I can play against the Packers. At least he would be coming clean and I think less people would have a problem instead of him trying to lie about everything. I think he will be signed before the end of May. To me this is good for the Packers because Favre is playing for revenge despite having nothing left I think he is no better then Jackson or Rosefels right now and the Vikings just want him for the ticket and merchadise sales not that they think he will make them a SB contender. IMO both sides will look bad as Favre will not play well and as such hurt the Vikings as teams will tee off on AP and thus benfiting the Packers with their bad play.

I tend to agree. Why be secretive about it? Be a man and come out and say it.

Lets not forget that he is officially retired and will still have to file for reinstatement.

Depends on what you mean by 'legacy', I suppose. If this is true, it means that Favre is so obsessed with proving that he was wronged by TT and the Packers that he's willing to do pretty much anything to get back at them.

Hopefully the Packers will take a lesson from this and not go so out of their way to coddle future stars -- when the hell did we start giving players special private locker rooms in Green Bay anyhow? That hardly seems to fit with the idea of having a team.

Anyhow, here's hoping Favre grows up a little and realizes what he's doing.

Yeah but it is not like Goodell will say no. Favre makes people watch. More people watch higher the ratings. Higher the ratings more money the NFL makes.
LeRoy36
If he truly didnt care LuvdaPack36 I would think Favre would be alittle more open with his "hate/dislike" of Ted and Green Bay and be more willing to own the fact that the only reason why he wants to play for Min is because they play the packers twice, not because he wants to win game or win a superbowl. He is out for blood.

So again if he didnt truly care I would think he would be more open.... I mean its not like Favre to shy away from a camera.

I hope he does come back for the MIN. I didn't want the drama last year as I thought that AR was the long term franchise QB and was worried at how it would effect his development. Now, I know he is the franchise QB and don't care.

This is a two way street. BFs hatred for TT or whoever could be there and deep, but don't forget GBs D. I see a Kevin Greene lead 3-4 D licking its chops to exact their revenge on a 40 year old washed up QB. This may actually help this team come together and light that much needed fire under the D.

I miss rooting for Favre. Heck, I miss liking the guy -- I miss my (obviously naïve) impression that he was a straight-shooter who played for the love of the game and his team and did so well because he was just out there to have fun.

Wasn't it Mike Sherman who gave Favre his own private parking space inside the stadium? Looking back, given that Favre didn't decline it, perhaps that was a sign right there...

More open about it?

I think the Greta Van Sustern interview was about as open as you can get and even if he wasnt does he think nobody can tell? We arent stupid. Its clear as day how he feels about Ted.

Also I dont think this has anything to do with the Packers. Its Ted. Thats it.

Nope I am right because if the ratings suck then when it is time for a new TV deal the networks don't pay as much for the rights. The NFL wants high rating games. If you don't think high rating games don't make them money well you should think again because everyone makes money when they do.

Getting revved up against the *hated* Packers is probably easy for Brett if he plays for Minny. The problem is, if that's why he's coming back, what will his motivation be like for the other 14 games of the season ?

In my opinion, the only time Brett really thought about the team, the Packers team, through the whole 2008 offseason, was immediately after he came to Lambeau and met with McCarthy. He was with Mike for hours, and there he finally met someone who was absolutely all about the team, and would not shift one inch, if Brett could not get past his feelings for Ted.

There Brett met his Waterloo. He found he could not get past his hatred, and therefore was not allowed back. In a statement just after that meeting, he apologised to the (Packers) team about how divisive the whole business was. It was the only time I remember him referencing the team like that, in the whole offseason. McCarthy made him look in a place he didn't want to look, but the effect of that was only transitory.

I say we just put Favre and Ted in an one-on-one cage match to the death. They can have it at lambeau and sale tickets and like every few minutes they throw weapons into the cage for them to use against each other. It can be a half time show.... Superbowl halftime show

You have to wonder also what the Vikings players have to think about this. A guy who wants to be their QB just because he wants to try to get revenge on his former team. Do you think many of those guys will respect him? Most of the players in the NFL today where in grade school when Favre was in his prime and will seem this guy as someone who should let it go and out of touch with them by 20 years.

Mature fans? You're forgetting we're talking about the Vikings here -- there aren't a lot of permanent seats on a bandwagon.

Let Favre play for the Queens. I could care less. The only thing that will be proven is that the Packers made the right call and that Favre is as mature as his shoe size. I respect everything he did as a player but man is he childish and stubborn. I would like to see him struggle against the Packers but I could never wish ill will upon him or any other player. I would like to see him get sacked a few times and throw a boatload of INTs but I would hate to see the Packers seriously injure the guy. I just don't like seeing serious injuries in any sport.
Lare
I don't know why any Packer fan would care about a 40 year old QB with an injured throwing arm who was a definite liability to his last team going to a division rival.

Let him go, he's not a Packer any more. He'll never be again.

I tend to agree, and as far as anyone "breaking Favre in half" one thing we all must have learned after watching him all these years is that he'll be back in the next series or at worst starting the next game.
