Any bets Favre is getting ready to join some playoff team in December that loses a quarterback?

Impossbile because there is zero chance to learn the system. No team would sign him then they would go with their backup.

I can't see him picking up in december, but I could see him preparing for opportunity if he does currently have the itch.

He was too impatient last year. Had he waited and prepared, he could maybe have gone to New England when Brady went down. Would have gotten his wish-- play with moss on a superbowl contender.

Doubt the opportunity comes up, but what if Brady's knee gives out again? Brett would make a good backup in New England. I don't know who they have there right now.

Farve isn't good enough anymore to just show up...
Favre in his own words is unwilling to put the grind into a long NFL off season.
If he was serious about coming back he would sign with a team (Vikings) get into their OTA's and Mini camps. And most importantly get into traning camp and COMPETE for the starting job.

Just walking in in December would be a disaster

Why would any team look at his playoff performances over the past decade and conclude that he could take them all the way any better than their own back-up could? Im being completely serious.

As Bruce would say thats another urban myth.

His #s over the last 10 years of playoffs have not been bad. The problem is there were a couple putrid games ( MN and STL) that stick out like sore thumbs.

They may not of been great #s but they werent terrible. Go back game by game from 1998 on and you will probably agree with me.

OK- a non-urban non-myth. When Favre was playing in Lambeau in the championship game against New York, he seemed to be the coldest player on the field. He was putting heating packages on his face, and was wearing a robe and wool hat on the sidelines during the time the defense was on the field.

Now, before anyone labels me a "Favre hater", I absolutely respect what he did for the Packers. To me, no game was lost as long as Favre was the QB.

Was he "bad" in the playoffs? No- except for some notable exceptions. Including the second SB.

Say what you want but #s dont lie.

I dont know what SBs you are talking about but his #s were far from bad:

VS NE: 14/27 246 yards 2 TDs 0 INTS

VS DEN : 25/42 256 yards 3 TDS 1 INT

OMG! What horrible numbers!

I could see if he doesn't join the Vikes (which I'm pretty much expecting now) that if another Brady/Pats opportunity presents itself, that he could coursed into playing.

I doubt it, only a HC with a death wish would even think about signing Favre in December.

He might be getting ready, but any December playoff team that puts their playoff hopes on Favre at that point would be disappointed in the outcome.

First of all, how often do playoffs teams lose their star QB just before the playoffs? It's extremely rare. It may be possible for a team to lose their starting QB early, and then the backup QB comes and manages the team well enough to get them into the playoffs. In which case, why would you bring a new guy in? You ride the horse that got you there.

Now, in the unlikely scenario that a star QB of a playoff team goes out in Week 16 or 17...no one's going to sign Favre. They're gonna go with their backup, who knows the playbook and has practiced with the team, and hope for the best.

Basically, @OP - won't happen.

Really??? He has thrown more INTs than TDs and has a losing record this decade in the playoffs. Explain to me how this isn't bad performance from a HOF QB. Favre's performance in the playoffs has always been the biggest knock on him. Aren't HOF QBs suppose to own other teams and take over in the playoffs? He has certainly had some good games in the playoffs in the last 10 years he just hasn't been a consistent playoff performer in recent years. He is also one of only 3 QBs in NFL history to have 6 turnovers in a single playoff game. He is the only QB to throw an OT INT in two playoff games. All of these occurences happened during this decade. Its no urban myth and certainly no joke.

Never heard that. I always heard the biggest knock, and I think it is true, is that Favre took too many chances and threw too many picks.

But you have to take the good with the bad and Favre had a lot more good than bad. He carried the team on a lot of occasions when we had no business winning football games. Didn't he carry the 2007 team for the first 7-9 games when we had no running attack? Or the 1996 offense when just about every WR we had was hurt at one time or another? Among other seasons.

QB's, not even the Elway's or the Montana's or the Favre's can do it alone and they certainly can't carry teams to to the SuperBowl and win without a lot of help.

Sometimes, you people expect way too much from 1 player and not enough from the other 10 guys on the offense.

True Strat, at some point during the night a voice comes over the speaker at Fantasyland in DisneyWorld and says the Park is closing soon and everybody prepares for reality again. Some folks just dont want to leave.
