Full Version: Draft picks any nicknames?

Do any of our draft picks have any kind of nicknames? I kind of laughed when Matthews when asked if he wanted to be called Clay Matthews or Clay Matthews III he said either Clay Matthews or Jr. is fine. I would laugh at a reporter asking so Jr. how did the game go today?

I heard that T. J. Lang goes by the nickname Twanger. I think it was on DraftguysTV. That'll probably stick.

Clay Matthews nic should be CM3. A little copy cat of Chris Paul, but still fits.

Yup, that's pretty much how every guy in their teens/twenties gets their nickname.

Raji looks like a Ninja Turtle in NeuBrew's picture earlier. I'll leave out the 'Mutant' and call him:
TNT Raji Which works on several levels, not least of them his ability to blow up the interior of the line.

I'm waiting for Clay Matthews first sack, and i'll be shouting "Just do the Math !"
When you put him in Green Bay's D, it all adds up. (and his dad and Grandad and uncle were all NFL calibre too, so that adds up as well)

As has been mentioned earlier, T.J.Lang is already Twanger so why change it.

T.J. Lang better perform well or he becomes K.D. Lang in a hurry. laugh.gif

Maybe I'm old-fashioned this way - but why don't we just refer to them using their NAMES?

If they turn out to be star players, their own names will be well-known enough.

Of course, this comes from someone who refuses to call Aaron Rodgers anything other than Aaron Rodgers or Rodgers...

That's no fun, ajg.

One of the guys invited to rookie camp for a tryout is former Missouri safety Cornelius "Pig" Brown. Just for the nickname I hope he gets signed. tongue.gif

I tend to agree with you ajg, however, I will throw something out there. Of course, I'll probably be lambasted for it, but whatever.

Nicknames are normally used in one of two ways, to show friendship and comradery or to show derision and disdain.

Some of my friends have nicknames. I have been given a nickname or two in the past. It is normally something that only friends use with each other and can even be different amongst different circles of friends.

Other times people make up nicknames to make fun of people. It happens a lot in gradeschool and even here on the board, ie. Tightwad Teddy, etc. (I wonder if there is any correlation??)

I think a lot of people like to makeup and use nicknames to show their "friendship" with professional players. If they can use a nickname instead of their real name, it makes them seem or maybe feel closer to that person, even though they will probably never meet or talk to that person.

We also live in a copycat society, and since ESPN and other entities use nicknames for some reason or another, if we use the nicknames, or even make up new, cooler ones, it seems that we are an accepted part of society.

I just prefer using real names or else something similar, ie, calling Paul Molitor - Molly. That was very common, but I wouldn't really call it a nickname. It was just what a good chunk of the fan base called him.

Ok.. I am now prepared to accept my beating by those who love using nicknames. biggrin.gif

If this is as obscure a reference to many of you, as it was for me, I'll save you the trouble of Googling it...

Do you hope he gets signed so you can say boy that swine flew? Sorry, I know it's a bad joke.
