Height:  6' 2" (5/8ths)
Weight: 275
40 Time: 5.01

Described as a "classic tweener." Has strong hand, stout at the point of attack, versatile, powerful tackler, tough, physical and aggressive, great motor, hard worker - still has some upside. Not very fast or quick, lacks explosiveness or burst, not a lot of moves or experience, not very productive...he's not a sack artist.

Overview
Scouts see a lot of potential in this former junior college transfer, who was Georgia Military Academy's defensive MVP in 2006. His size and length on the edge did not result in a lot of production in two years between the hedges (33 tackles, four sacks), though his growth might have been stunted a bit with the Georgia staff rotating him back and forth between defensive end and tackle throughout his junior season. Scouts wonder if he was on the verge of breaking out, as he enjoyed the two best games of his career for Georgia in his final two contests. Wynn racked up a career-high six tackles against rival Georgia Tech and followed up that performance with another four tackles, including two sacks, against Michigan State in the 2009 Capital One Bowl. If his game continues to improve, Wynn could make a roster as a swing end able to play the run and pressure the quarterback -- ultimately proving to be a better pro than collegiate player.

This guy could be a pretty good pickup. Obviously he'll need to bulk up some to hold up at DE in a 3-4 but not a bad developmental-type guy.

This is the only real curveball in the draft!!!

I'm a Georgia alum and have seen most of this guys' games. First, he came from Georgia Military College. This is where high school grads who don't have the grades to get in to UGA go (yes, despite the presence of Jim Harrick 4 years ago, UGA is a tough school academically). The fact that he made it through that place, which is like a 2 year boot camp, is amazing enough.

He was a bit of a disappointment at UGA, though. But this is coming from a fan who has had Charles Johnson, David Pollack, Quentin Moses, Marcus Howard, and Robert Geathers to watch. Even so, his main strength was being a strong, athletic space eater. We've had a pretty successful linebacking crew the past two years, due in some part to Wynn's play.

This is what I can guarantee, though. He'll be professional. He'll be athletic as hell. And he'll be a hard worker.

I'm so excited that the Packers have gotten another UGA player!

In the GPPG, it says he could "easily" bulk up to 290. If so, you could have a useful guy. That could work.

I assume you can waive him and keep him on practice squad, that he'll clear. That would allow another year to built up. That would help.

If you've got to keep him on the roster as a developmental guy, when he's likely very unprepared to really play productively, and the certainly that he'll ever be all that good and worth wasting a lot of developmental time on, that's a different question.

I've got nothing against the guy, but for me I'd have rather seen the Packers draft Ricky Jean-Francois instead of Wynn. From what I've seen he reminds me a lot of Mike Montgomery. I just think that RJF is a better player and would have been a better pick. In fact, if the Packers had landed Jennings and Jean-Francois in the 6th round I'd have loved every single pick that was made this year. That just doesn't happen in a TT led draft.

Sorry, this was the one pick I truly did not understand. A little short and light for DE. He's not fast, explosive or athletic, so there is no way he's an OLB. Oh, and on top if it, he's not particularly strong. What makes this guy good value for a 3-4 team. I could see a 4-3 team taking him as part of a DE rotation to stuff the run, but doesn't really seem like a 3-4 guy.

In the grand scheme of things, no big deal, but I really hope he shows more at this level than he has up until now. This pick was a head-scratcher given the players that were still available. Bear Pascoe, Dan Gronkowski and John Phillips would have been nice "blocking" upgrades at TE. Daryll Richard and Ricky Jean-Francois seem much more "ready" to step in and help at DE.

Here's hoping I'm completely "full of it" on this guy. wink.gif

This is a head scratcher for me also. I can't see TT drafting a guy just to put him on the practice squad. They must see something in him. They must believe that he is more than what appeared in college.

Well he's definitely not as injury prone as RJF. But as I said in another thread, UGA consistently puts out players that are fundamentally sound. Their success as a program lies in the pro-style techniques that they teach, and they do a damn fine job of it.

Wynn may be a little short and doesn't seem particularly fast or explosive, he has a nearly .5 second difference between his 40 time and 20 yard shuttle time, which suggests he has good football speed. His vertical also equals Raji's (albeit with a 50 pound difference).

He's got an NFL body and he's fundamentally sound. What TT is hoping for, I'm guessing, is that Wynn will develop in to a solid contributor at DE. He's not going to be Richard Seymour, but he could be Chris Canty.

Hopefully he at least makes it to the PS for a year to put some weight on and develop as a NFL player. If any of the last three guys make the squad I would be suprised , while they have potential especially the linebacker and the DB it would amazing if they made the final 53 as there are alot of guys to compete with at those positions.
I would like to see a rule for the practice squad that actual rookies cant be signed off the squad by other teams. Actually it would be nice if all the prectice squad players were protected and teams should be able to dress at least 48 guys per game.

Appreciate your perspectives, monkey soul. I like the perspective and balance in them. Hmmm...if he ever developed into 'only' Chris Canty, I suppose I could live with that! smile.gif

This may be a rather bold prediction, because I'm a fan of his, but I bet Wynn beats out Montgomery for the last DL spot. Our depth at DE I see as: Jenkins, Jolly, Harrell, Wynn.

that actually sounds promising to me, since that's pretty much what 3-4 DEs are supposed to do. my guess is he's competing with Montgomery for a roster spot, and if he needs more seasoning, we'll try and stash him on the PS.

Wynn has been training with Chuck Smith

I expect like 10 sacks plus this year from him. Not really, but this training can only help.
