1. Sign Holliday or Carter (I prefer Holliday)
2. Draft Andre Smith at #9 - I think he is far better than some give him credit for.
3. Draft Alphonso Smith CB in round 2
4. Draft Moala DT/DE USC in 3a.
5. Draft Cody Brown LB Conn. 3b.
6. Draft Cadogan OT PSU 4 (If Gone...Kropog or TJ Lang)
7. Draft Terrance Taylor DT Michigan round 5
8. Draft Ian Johnson RB Boise 6a
9. Draft Bear Pascoe TE Fresno 6b
10. Draft Myron Pryor DT Kentucky 7

I agree with the idea of signing Holliday or Carter. Overall, I believe this would be a very good draft. All of these players would represent good value for the round in which each was selected as well as meeting needs the Packers have. I do, however, have a few minor concerns. First, I am concerned that Smith's lack of height will cause him to struggle against tall receivers in the red zone. Secondly, do the Packers need both Taylor and Pryor? They seem to be very similar.

After looking at Smiths height, I agree that it might be a bad fit.

So My adjustment is this...

2. Moala (I think we really need to fill that spot)
3a. Mickens DB Cinncinati

As far as Taylor and Pryor go...I think we need one to stick so draft 2 and hope one works. If they both do, Pickett is a FA at seasons end.

Based on everything I have read about Moala, it is unlikely he will last until the 3rd round. Therefore, selecting him in the 2nd round makes sense. Also, your reason for drafting both Taylor and Pryor certainly makes sense.

Great picks all...esp. Ian Johnson in the 6th. He's a very poor man's Robert Smith to me. I shy away from Taylor, but I guess bets are hedged by getting him in the 5th.

Pilprin,
I'd be very happy with this draft. However, I have two issues. First, I'm not 100% sure about Alphonso Smith (I think switching to Mickens in the 3rd was the right call). Second, assuming we got Holliday or Carter to add depth at DE and we also add Taylor in the 5th, why is Moala so critical. It's not that I think he's a bad choice. I just wanted to understand the rationale.

I know I'm hell bent on a better O Line, so take this with a grain of salt, but I'd consider taking one of the top centers in Round 2 instead, and upgrade over either Spitz or Wells. This would yield:

  • DE depth (via free agency)
  • 2 very good OT prospects, at least one of which would probably start right away
  • An upgrade at Center
  • CB depth in case Woodson or Harris show their age
  • LB help
  • An NT to help rotate Pickett
  • A 3rd down back
  • A solid TE prospects

The only thing not checked in my wishlist would be stability at punter.

A lot to love about this mock. I agree with your "adjustment", even though I'm not a big Mickens fan. (Keenan Lewis and Kevin Barnes seem to be more in the TT size plus speed mold.)

The only miscalculation might be in taking 2 NTs. It would be very unlikely that we would keep 3 of them. You'd have to try and sneak one of them onto the practice squand and with the small number of bigs in this draft and the fact that 4-3 teams would have an easier time stashing a DT on the roster, we'd likely lose one of the 2, making it a wasted pick. IMO, it's better to choose a guy in the 7th that you can more easily stash on the roster or PS if he looks like a keeper, but maybe not quite ready for the 2-deep.
